Ill glady help you harvest next year if needed. As a child growing up as first generation italian i learned the process of making wine and olive oil from my parents right here in Washington State fifty years the old fashioned way. Dad would be 101 today and moms still yelling orders at 92. Some things you never forget.
We would love to have you help us, it's really a fun few days although the work is harder than people realize. Our neighbor is an old farmer who does exactly that, make his own wine and presses his own oil (among many other things). You'd feel like you went back to your childhood if you saw him I'm sure.
Hi Debbie and Stijn, I watched both the videos of your olive grove and harvest and I must say I'm super impressed with your passion and dedication! A little over $5000 for one acre land with 15 olive trees??? omg! pls sign me up too on the list of ppl interested in buying an orchard or an olive grove! I've been thinking of moving to northern california but the more I watch videos based in Italy and the more i hear fro Americans how amazing life is out there, the more I'm inclined to chuck the idea of moving to the expensive california! Anyways, looking forward to meeting you both and try the gorgeous looking olive oil that you harvested. Thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences! Rashmi from Minnesota
5,000 euros was certainly a great deal, and so close to our house! We really lucked out! Looking forward to the day we can share some of our oil with you, it is pretty delicious 😋😋
What a wonderful video. We are new to your channel and so enjoying it! We will be in Umbria in late april. My husband and I are visiting to look at moving there. We would love to chat with you both and maybe take you to dinner.
Thank you for this lovely episode. Please, keep up doing this Italian-story-videos. Quite interesting to see another culture and how newcomers undergo new experience.
Absolutely incredible. I am so glad to see your progress. You will definitely have my two hands to help you in the future. 43 days until my closing in February! I will keep you posted.
Great video. Greater harvest. That is a valid bribe for your friends and family to visit. We will be scouting Algarve area and will be sure to require olive trees on the property for sure. Love your videos. Thank you.
Ciao Debbie and Stijn! It was great meeting you and right in the middle of your olive harvest too! Sorry that we couldn't stay behind and help you pick! That end result looks awesome and I can't wait to get more involved in these wonderful traditions, as we spend more and more time in our new Tuscan home. Wishing you a very Merry Umbrian Christmas! 🥰😍🤩🎄🎆
First of all HAPPY NEW YEAR to you both and now I got the time to watch your wonderful video. It feels a long time since I saw a video from you and I enjoyed every bit of it. It was sooo interesting to see the process with your beautiful olives and YES please lots of videos where we follow your (new) life in Italy, also the pruning of the olive and other trees. Your videos are always so good, thank you.
That was fun. We're surprised you got so many olives off that one tree. And, the pressing process was really interesting, kind of like how we used to press tallow out of the concentrate at my dad's meat processing plant when I was a kid. Have fun and a great Christmas.
Its been fun watching you guys in your new home in Italy, once day, I would love to retire in Italy, so I am trying to learn bits and pieces from different youtubers online in Italy. I see Marisa Raoul commented on your channel and I follow her too. Anyway, you can count me to visit, but I will work for my stay, I will help you guys harvest your olives, work in the garden, I can do the cooking everyday, I love cooking and love baking bread as well. So yes, I want to visit to get some olive oil :)
We're so happy you enjoyed our video! We have been thinking about doing "A Day in the Life" ☺️ It will definitely be after the first of the year. Hope you two are doing well and we wish you a very Merry Christmas 💞🇮🇹
Thanks! I think the different colors is more the type of tree it is. The variation of colors is what gives the oil its unique taste which is a bit peppery☺️
Debbie and Stijn, it is so fun watching you two and your adventures. My husband and I have friends that are Italian and we try to visit there when possible. Is there an email for you two? You have a shot of an agriturismo that a friend of ours runs and wanted to see if you stayed there. Can’t wait to see your future in umbria. For some reason that place and landscape is my fav, so can’t blame you for buying a home there. ☀️🇮🇹
Thanks for your comment, we absolutely love it here and are always happy to see others enjoy it as much as we do. Our email is listed on our youtube profile tab actually. Which agriturismo are you referring to?
Thank you for getting back to me. I’m so sorry if I missed that email and will check it out. My husband and I have been streaming some of your episodes and some others, as we are interested in checking out the Dolomites. We really enjoy you guys, so I thought I would send a message. The place I am referring to is in Pienza, and I will look for the email for more information. So happy for you guys and Grazie Mille! ☀️☕️
I am not finding but possibly due to the fact I am viewing on cell vs computer. If you stayed at one in pienza I will send further info as you may have simply taken a photo of it 😍. Ciao!

We put it in dark green glass as gifts but store it in a stainless steal "jug" of sorts. Shelf is a few years as long as it's in dark container. It's a daily staple here in Italy so it doesn't last long!
Hi, I have been watching your videos and subscribed to your channel because we are from Los Angeles, California and thinking to buy a house and move there to Italy. We have few questions for you to help us from your experience, would you mind answering us?
Hey im looking to buy a small olive grove in south east Sicily. Do you know how to get the best deal and where do i look? I live in Canada but have a house in Sicily near Noto planning on coming every summer.
@@mariademasi1760 we're really not familiar with Sicily. Really the best way we've found is word of mouth. We recently bought another olive grove and it was by word of mouth again although the grove was also posted in a local hardware store. We've kind of learned the with the italians, everything is for sale😂🤣 I'd ask people like the barista at your favorite bar, the newspaper stand person, the hardware store guy or maybe your hairdresser. In general ask people who have strong ties to the community. As far as a good deal that is more difficult to gauge because it depends on so many factors. What is your primary intent with this grove? Will you be actively working in it or will you pay others to prune/mow/fertilize/pick?

Hi there, got a question for you, wondering if you can provide feedback. I have bought a place in Italy, but having hard time opening bank account as USA citizen. Do you have and advise and suggestions. Thank you.
We used Unicredit here in Umbria, not sure where your house is and if Unicredit has branches over there but it's worth a try. Beware that for non-residents all banks charge relatively astronomical fees (about 30 euro per month) so definitely look into options like Revolut. We do not have a Revolut account (never have had one either) but it seems to be popular. Once you become a resident the monthly fees drop significantly to about 10 euro.
Why can't I do this lifestyle? I'm retired I used to be stationed at every on airbase my grandparents are Italian I would love to do what you're doing along side friends and
It's really a choice you make. We were actually traveling full-time when we hit Umbria. We got here, fell in love and decided we could live here! It's been wonderful, without a plan😊
These properties should only be sold to other Italians of those in Italy or from countries where themselves or their parents and grand parents emigrated to decades ago and who want to live in Italy and not to foreigners. I hope that the new government will make it harder for foreigners to live in Italy and buy properties. And even being a EU Citizen a person must find a job within three months or demonstrate that he/she has sufficient moneys to self support.
All very good points. Trouble these days is the younger italians want to live in the cities and don't particularly want to be responsible for harvesting olives. That's why they are selling houses for 1 euro, the younger generations have left. As for Stijn, who is an EU citizen and who just became an Italian resident this week, is very interested in perma culture and basically lives on his new olive grove property. Something this property needed, someone to love it and bring it back to life. I, Debbie am of italian descent, my great grandparents immigrated to America in the early 1900's from Sicily. And we live here!
So happy I met you two! You have a plethora of very interesting information. Plus it's fun hanging out with you two (-:
