Hey Chris, just wanted to say that I think I am really going to like your teaching style. I have tried before to use the Swift Playground or other "beginner" tutorials that basically give you the code and words to use, but don't actually explain what the practical use is. I like that you go into more detail to explain what it is to code and how to use what you are teaching down the road instead of just having the student memorize code. As far as why I am here. As I said, I have tried to take on learning to code apps before. My wife has a few good ideas for apps related to her field, she's an artist, and there are a few things she has searched for that shes would like to see in an app and hasn't been able to find. In addition, I have been a gamer since the early '80's, and have found that I like mobile gaming. I can see the potential that building apps has to create passive income and turning it into a serious business with the right idea and marketing. I am a CAD designer by trade, and am tired of working for someone else's dreams, so I am here to learn to code, and work toward my own dreams and to be my own boss eventually.
Wow, I literally got to the part where he showed the storyboard and I was like "wait, where's my storyboard?" and then the "Missing your storyboard?" video link popped up. What a legend!
Also on the note of compatibility, if your MacOS is not up to date you can always register your Apple ID as a Developer account and you will have the ability to download older versions of applications and also previous versions of Mac OS :)
Trying to make this my full time job so I can hang out with my 2 little kids all day. I've done coding before. but never made an APP. So this a challenge I will gladly accept. Plus knowledge is Power. Thanks Chris for this opportunity to learn & grow.
This was such a great lesson, thanks Chris for on-boarding me on my journey of building my first app. So easy to follow and understand the concepts and basics of the Xcode tool and how this will help a beginner as myself!
I came to this because I heard a kid talking about how he can code on ted saying that kids cant find coding lessons easily. So I googled: "how to make an app" and got this vid.
I’m here because I might be in pain for the rest of my life and unable to work and leave home pretty much (at the ripe old age of 22) so I want to at least pull my weight at home and maybe one day take care of my family instead of the other way around.
this is really good for the most part. If you dont have a mac book and you download the site he suggested at 1:55 well it costs money to get for as low as $55 per month. thats after the 24 hour trial
www.apple.com/macos/how-to-upgrade/#hardware-requirements, anyone that has this problem an go the link and see if your device can run the latest macOs. If you see that your device can, there is a link that you can click to download the latest macOs. Then finally you can download codeX and start coding!

I started writing Swift apps in December 2018 and I’ve accelerated pretty fast (I have a 30 year background in programming Assembly and C++). I can already code complex multi-game software and video slot machines, but what I REALLY NEED NOW IS AN ARTIST! I am ready to write a new open world game.
Congratulations on making it that far!!! We do not have any "artist", well, at least I'm not one! Maybe if you look at some freelancer website or job boards, you might be able to find one. I even think that Dribbble has a marketplace! @AdrienVillez
CodeWithChris, thanks for your kind words. I’m on my 3rd app now (the first app evolved into a multi-game with 2 video poker games and a video slot and room for 9 games total on the menu screen). The second app was a bar code reading decryption utility to validate the printed tickets that print out of my real casino gaming machine (a 3 reel mechanical slot, written in Assembly) that was just approved for casino use. Casinos will use the bar code app to validate customer cashouts. I “borrowed” the artwork I had done for the mechanical slot to create the iOS video slot version. Now comes my 3rd app which, if left up to my art abilities, will be created in Windows Paint and will pretty much SUCK. I really want to do a 3D (simulated) 2D open world platform game (think Wii Super Mario Bros style). Within a few more months, I should be as good at iOS as any game programmer, but I will always have my artwork “Achilles Heal”
Me and my friend have a robotics team/innovation project team and we are creating a app called “where the sidewalk starts”. Where kids can learn sidewalk safety and other things so there won’t be as many accidents and kids can get more exercise! This helped a TON thank you!

Thanks for sharing! Glad that Chris's teaching style resonated with you. Hope you enjoy the entire Beginner series. :)

I have the Macbook Air 2015, it doesn't let me download Xcode. I really want to learn how to code
Wow, I literally got to the part where he showed the storyboard and I was like "wait, where's my storyboard?" and then the "Missing your storyboard?" video link popped up. What a legend!
Haha, cheers, Veronica! Thank you so, so much for learning with us! :-) -Arthur
Also on the note of compatibility, if your MacOS is not up to date you can always register your Apple ID as a Developer account and you will have the ability to download older versions of applications and also previous versions of Mac OS :)
Yes, thanks for mentioning that!
-Kat
Trying to make this my full time job so I can hang out with my 2 little kids all day. I've done coding before. but never made an APP. So this a challenge I will gladly accept. Plus knowledge is Power. Thanks Chris for this opportunity to learn & grow.
You can do it!! Thanks for choosing to learn with us 🙌

Thank for the video it's really making me understand
This was such a great lesson, thanks Chris for on-boarding me on my journey of building my first app. So easy to follow and understand the concepts and basics of the Xcode tool and how this will help a beginner as myself!
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. So glad to know we have helped on your iOS journey.

@@CodeWithChris I'm strictly an android user so if I create an app using mac os would it work ?
Ppl are here for money but I am here because I am imagining a game but it does not exist 😁😂
Nice! This is the perfect time to start building your app/game idea. :)

I came to this because I heard a kid talking about how he can code on ted saying that kids cant find coding lessons easily. So I googled: "how to make an app" and got this vid.
Cool, welcome to our channel!

I’m here because I might be in pain for the rest of my life and unable to work and leave home pretty much (at the ripe old age of 22) so I want to at least pull my weight at home and maybe one day take care of my family instead of the other way around.
That's awesome. I wish you all the best in your coding journey. 🙌
- Kat
I would like to learn how to make apps to support my family so I need it to pay
The big thing is he is replaying all comments good job bro ✌️
Haha, thank you Rhino! :-) -Arthur
this is really good for the most part.
If you dont have a mac book and you download the site he suggested at 1:55 well it costs money to get for as low as $55 per month. thats after the 24 hour trial
Thanks for watching! There are other ways to use Xcode too, for free: bit.ly/CWCWindows

I’m so stuck and frustrated !! It says I can’t install Xcode because macOs version 10.14.3 or later is required 🥵
www.apple.com/macos/how-to-upgrade/#hardware-requirements, anyone that has this problem an go the link and see if your device can run the latest macOs. If you see that your device can, there is a link that you can click to download the latest macOs. Then finally you can download codeX and start coding!
Hello, this is a common error as apple made xcode only available for later versions.
However, we have a solution for this! as long as you have macOS HS 10.13.6 or later you can use this guide to have xcode 10.2 on your mac :) codewithchris.com/xcode-update/
- Francis
You can download the update on the apple website, and the download macOS catrina and the it should work
Looking to build a little of both. The ultimate goal is to build apps to help my productivity at work and an RPG game. Time will tell.
Awesome! Have fun on your iOS journey! 🙌🥳

I feel very confident about making my app now! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Would you mind helping me, bestie
whenever I create a new project there is no main.storyboard. only launchscreen.storyboard. does anybody know how to fix this?
Do not select SwiftUI in the starter panel. It's brand new and we will be covering this really soon!

I'm trying to learn python in school because for some reason my school thinks 7th graders need their own typing class when we all know how to type and I got bored of typing lol

@AdrienVillez
Damnnnnnn
I’m 9 and i wanna make a 20th century fox app or a TCF games app
The way you teach it seems easier than I imagined.
I'm following all videos now. 👨🔧
Awesome, thank you!

I want to build an app for employees to have quick access to our protocols for our ambulance district
Nice app idea! Good luck on your app development journey!
-Kat
Don’t post your ideas bro unless it’s protected. Tip for the future.
Me and my friend have a robotics team/innovation project team and we are creating a app called “where the sidewalk starts”. Where kids can learn sidewalk safety and other things so there won’t be as many accidents and kids can get more exercise! This helped a TON thank you!
Awesome! Thanks for learning with us. We'd love to see the app when it's finished!

Do you think you can do an updated version of this series? A lot of the layout and things are vastly different on the newest version of Xcode.

True! Writing it all out and planning the specifics really helps to make the goal more achievable. :)

First I want to say, thank you very much for this video! Very informative. Also I apologize if these questions have been asked before but:
1) How would we know if we should build our app as a hybrid app (working on both web and mobile) or as a iOS specific app like your showing here?
2) Is there anything that you would say has changed in terms of technology as I’m a software engineer myself and I know things change fairly quickly x
Hello, kindly post these questions in our tech support forum so you can receive help from our tech support staff: codecrew.codewithchris.com. Thank you! -Arthur
Definitely these videos will help with my new app called ForgetMeNot

(Great tutorial by the way 😃)

If I wanted to create a social media app like Facebook or Instagram, what template would be best for the project?
Always start with a Single View Application. Keep it simple and clean of code, write your own code as you will delete the existing one anyway.
@AdrienVillez
Im here to help my parents with this, due to the pandemic Im scared we might end up struggling so I wanna help out any way i can. Thanks for the vid Chris
Hoping that we can at least empower you to start learning iOS app development now so you can prepare yourself for a meaningful programming career. That will help you and your family. Keep on going and never surrender! :-) -Arthur
