Solid observations. Heres a few more
Most kayaks can be transported on the tops of most cars. So no trailer or registration for it.
Some heavier kayaks are best on trailers. But even then, most cars and small trucks can tow them. No need for a large tow vehicle like you might need to tow a large boat
Storing a kayak is generally pretty simple. A small garage, shed, or side of a house under a tarp are all you need.
Ive been kayak fishing a long time and the evolution of kayaks has been amazing.
I'm from years before Hobie brought out their Mirage Drive.
I try not to be a paddling purist. But i think when a motor is added any kayak it becomes a boat.
At least here in Cali when you have motor you need to register the boat/kayak/wster craft.

These are all awesome points! We were definitely having fun making this video. You are right though, it really boils down to the type of kayak and its weight as far as whether it is best to roof rack it or put it on a trailer. The nice thing is, you can do both and it is your choice.
Adding a motor is a game changer, but you are right in the sense that some may think that is getting away from a kayak and closer to a boat. Motors are really useful if you are someone who fishes offshore or on big open water lakes. Not all kayaks are created equal when it comes to paddling and if you own a fishing kayak with a pontoon-style hull, you can really run into trouble in some current.
What kayak are you fishing out of? That's awesome you have been able to experience first hand the evolution of fishing kayaks.

      @@ecofishingshop I'm 56 now n born n raised in San Diego CA.
Started fishing with my dad in our bays n near shore when I was very young. I started surfing in my mid teens and that became my passion for a long time. Still fished but mostly surfed. In my mid 30's increasing crowds got me burned out on surfing. Picked up a big wind surfing board, a little canoe paddle, strapped a milk crate to the front n started fishing. Couldn't bring much but I caught plenty of local fish.
"Upgraded" to a Cobra Fish n Dive. Then an Ocean Kayak Prowler 15.
Then a Malibu kayak extreme when I had kids cause the front hatch has a little seat built in.
Fished an original Hobie out back for a while. But kept going back to the prowler. It's a long thin not particularly stable n wet ass kayak.
But it paddles well, tracks straight, handles rougher water like a classic ocean kayak design, and does well during surf launches and landings.
Yak fishing got huge in SD and the crowds started bugging me.
7 years ago a couple of my original high school surfing buddies started getting in stand up paddle board surfing. That completely reignited my love of surfing. I still got the kayak out (same 20 year old Prowler 15) now n then. But the SUP surfing became my focus.
Im Sept I crashed while surfing in shallow water n bounced my head off the bottom. Fractured 2 vertebrae in my neck and tore ligaments along my spine. Docs say I should make a complete recovery.
I'm sure hoping. Probably going to be surfing less and yak fishing more in the future.

@michaelburk9171 - Thanks for sharing your story! Sorry to hear about your recent accident though, that sounds scary. It sounds like you are in the beginning stages of your recovery, but hopefully your doctors are correct in their anticipation of a full recovery.
Hopefully you can get back on the water soon in a safe manner. Fishing kayaks have come a long way and I'm sure you've seen it all. But it really does come down to preference and once you find a kayak you love, there isn't always a need to upgrade. Thanks for your input and your story. Reach out to us if you have any questions in regards to kayak fishing!

i have a big fish 103 which is great but lets get real a boat may cost more but it definatly has more room to move around more storage just overall a more comfortable fishing experience. and i love my kayak but i would take a nice 17ft skiff anyday over it.

Boats have their limitations as well. Plenty of our anglers fish in areas that are simply unreachable by land or boat. Like you though, many of our customers own both and use both depending on where they are going to fish.

5000k for the fist kayak??? There is a 1999 nitro with a 250 yam in good condition for 5400 on facebook right now.. fk that kayak. I’m not saying saying Kayaks aren’t fun and have a time and place for them. But these prices are getting ridiculous… but hey if I was in the business I would slap that price tag on there as well. Plenty of suckers out there willing to buy.

It all comes down to preference. Both have their advantages and limitations. A lot of anglers have both and most of the anglers we meet love the added challenges of a fishing from a kayak. However, just like boats, there are different price tiers that offer different perks. A lot of anglers don't want a boat or simply enjoy kayaking more.

Not everyone wants to buy a 24 year old boat. If maintaining and fixing a boat that old is going to take me away from fishing I don’t care how cheap it is
