  • A new feature of a leading DAW releases (or re-releases, rather) a function already available in Cakewalk Matrix View, a feature VASTLY overlooked and underused =( . See examples of how to set up audio and MIDI files to loop or be triggered with a MIDI keyboard controller or pads, as well as a rough demonstration on how to roughly arrange a song in the track view using cell elements.

    This video from "Why Logic Pro X Rules" was referenced. The video clip demonstrates features available to Logic Pro X users that Cakewalk users have been able to use for years. Take advantage of this amazing compositional tool!!!

    Ooh, I knew you could use matrix view but I didn't realize how easy mapping it to your midi would be. Thank you dude (:

      Yeah!!! It's super useful and not a whole lot of Cakewalk vids to show these cool features!

    Hey, thanks for the heads up on this. As you appear to be rather new channel I thought I’d take a minute for some constructive input. You got some info out there but it was kind of tough to follow you as your thoughts trailed off here and there as you searched for things or considered what you wanted to convey next. I’d suggest you just put yourself in a viewer’s shoes that perhaps doesn’t understand all this stuff (like me) and have another listen to the video start to finish. I think that’ll help you understand the importance of having a bit more of a game plan going in and your stuff organized that you intend to use in the vid.
    I think your delivery style is good and you clearly have a handle on what you’re doing yourself so there’s some value to what you will present clearly. Just a bit of a tune-up on your presentation and you should do well with this channel. Thanks for the first look into Matrix I’ve had on Cakewalk!

      Hey Reginald! Definitely good advice! I have shot a few videos since and haven't posted due to that very issue. I've been working on getting my script down to a place where I'm not distracted with finding mouse moves, as well as making sure my examples are succinct. So, your feedback is definitely on point, and I plan to apply that towards the next video. Thanks for taking the time for the constructive notes, and I plan to adjust to post a better video soon.

    Really dope vid... When you tried to stretch the sample you needed to turn off import content as groove clip in the matrix options (the icon next 2 the midi looking icon on the right side) then drag it to the matrix and it should keep its pitch.

    sooo, I can (rather easily) do life sessions with on-the-fly-recording like in Ableton Live or the Perfomance Panel in Mixcraft?
    I desperately need a replacement, because both above mentioned won´t work without latency or at all for live streams, while
    cakewalk works perfect...

    Thanks for this tutorial. It's uncharted territory for me in Cakewalk. BTW, why are you using such an old version of the software? Cakewalk by BandLab has gone so far beyond what SONAR was in its 4 years of development. In stability, performance, and features.

    • @AudioDiscoveryVids
      @AudioDiscoveryVids  2 роки тому +2

      First, thanks for checking out the video! Unfortunately my most "popular" video is also my most problematic from both a preparation and a production phase. I'm setting up to do another soon.
      As for the versions of Cakewalk, I completely agree with you about Cakewalk by Bandlab vs SONAR. What I was trying to get across in the video was that "Matrix View" (which is essentially "Live Loops" in Apple-Logic Pro X) has many of the same functions as its Apple counterpart and can be very useful (FOR FREE). However, I AM sorry to say the Cakewalk bakers have not added any additional functions to Matrix View since they adopted the platform back in 2018. I also omitted some of the features of Live Loops that Matrix View does not have.
      The features that they HAVE updated, or even the new features, have been good updates, and I'm really really glad that they've been generous with the updates on a free platform. Cakewalk is great, and I recommend it to anyone looking for audio software for recording needs.

    Is there a way to queue the columns together in a way that one plays after another automatically? Thanks

    • @AudioDiscoveryVids
      @AudioDiscoveryVids  2 роки тому

      I don't know about automatically, but what you could do is drag/drop the contents of each column into tracks, and it would play your arrangement. Each column is set to be triggered by an external midi source, but they hadn't programmed a way for internal MIDI piano roll to trigger the pads in Matrix View. They probably figured users would opt for the action I explained above

    • @AudioDiscoveryVids
      @AudioDiscoveryVids  Рік тому +1

      Yep! There's a tempo section in the Track View at the top left. It's expressed as an envelope, but you can add by sections that works better

      Not that I've seen before (i would have to look before I can answer definitively), but I know there are hardware samplers that do this quite easily. I know Reaper has a global tempo setting that can be manipulated in real time, but no loops...

    this matrix looks like a toy in compare to ableton or bitwig. not sure if it even in FL Studio league.
    although this app is free, which is good; however win-only, which is not

    • @AudioDiscoveryVids
      @AudioDiscoveryVids  3 роки тому +1

      Well, if you have Ableton, Bitwig, or FL Studio, you're probably not looking for another DAW to compose in. I made the video to remind Cakewalk users they have a function that Apple just added and hyped in Logic (which I like using as well). Same about the discussion regarding pricepoints... it's a fantastic tool for someone with a PC that wants to trigger samples to create sounds. Apple users have Logic (which is not available to Win users... =( )

      @@AudioDiscoveryVids i have Ableton, but some sort of light version limited to 8 tracks, so i am looking for another DAW, but all with good Scenes/Launches implementations cost around 300 bucks or more
      and cakewalk doesn't look that bad considering the price, but on all machines i have either macos or arch linux
