I was told my an old Okie farmer that a barn(aka workshop) could build a house, but a house cannot build a barn. I think you’re making the right move. This new workshop will lend itself to building your house when the time comes.
I’m so happy for you and Jess. When I listen to you and Jess I always tell my husband I visited with my friend today because that’s how it feels. I’m almost 76 years old and watching the videos you all put out is such a joy and inspiration. I love you and your family and I’m so amazed with all you do and accomplish. You have such a giving loving heart and so encouraging to everyone. You seem to judge no one and except people for who they are. That means so much to me. Like I said I’m so happy and thrilled that Miah’s getting to start his shop. Miah, it has been almost 2 years because I have a photo of them from Nov 2022. asking you about the shop when we were out at the farm 2 years ago and you bringing out the blueprints and sharing them with us was one of the biggest highlights of our visit. I am so glad to finally see you being able to break ground on your dream. Your workshop has been the farm. I think you had to get through certain stages of the farm to get to working on the workshop. You will be great. You will do great. Yes, you can do it.
Can't help feeling there's a divine reason the shop must happen before the house. When the moment you realize what it is (because it isn't all the other obstacles), I hope you document it. Very exciting to be learning such a traditional way of building. Looking forward to following your journey.

I’m a 73 yr old lady who was one of the first female telephone installers in the Bell Tel system, and the first female to pass pole climbing school for Mountain Bell. I love Jess and her channels, so have subscribed to your channel because of your build. Can’t wait to watch your progress. I watched a series on HBO where a guy rescues old timber framed barns. It was awesome. Some of those structures are hundreds of years old and still standing. There’s something to be said for the “old ways” of doing things. Much like cooking from scratch. We moved her 4 years ago, and thanks to UA-cam I have learned gardening, building chicken tractors, and a deck amongst may other things around my small acre. Just remember not to edit out your oopsies and how you over came it.

This is fantastic Miah! So glad you are doing traditional timber framing too. I got interested many years ago but now I will see it through your eyes and videos. There are several books on timber framing by Ted Benson on Amazon which are very well written and detailed. I was fascinated by the traditional methods and tools used to build barns that are still standing after way over a century. Sadly, the only thing timber frame I ever got to build was a mini barn bird feeder.

He built our family home in the 90's, we have recently finished their off grid log cabin - and now we haul the sawmill home and begin making timbers for a dove tail building to house my grooming business! Gaining skills and memories at the same time!

I really enjoy you guys making videos together. The video you guys just posted on R & R (about pulling back from the house build) was so good!! 😂♥You guys are so fun to watch and feed off of each other really well. Excited for you guys and your new workshop. Seems like you will both benefit greatly from the new workshop. I think you have a lot of God given wisdom. Share it with people. Be bold in your faith. You have a lot to share with people and I pray that God gives you direction in what and when to share it with others. It will probably look different than how Jess shares but it is needed just the same! Great video Miah! 😃

Whether it is about farming, caring for animals, or, yes, having a better relationship with family, you have and will continue to have an impact on so many of us that enjoy watching you. How many times, in an encounter with another person, or chore, or whatever, have I had an "oh wait! THAT's what he/they were taking about" moment. You may never know the impact of what you might think is a "nothing special" video may have on one of us. That alone makes what you do worth it. Keep on being you, and we will keep on watching! This is fantastic Miah! So glad you are doing traditional timber framing too. I got interested many years ago but now I will see it through your eyes and videos. There are several books on timber framing by Ted Benson on Amazon which are very well written and detailed. I was fascinated by the traditional methods and tools used to build barns that are still standing after way over a century. Sadly, the only thing timber frame I ever got to build was a mini barn bird feeder.

When you see everything you have done since i started watching you, which was when you started roots and refuge, and saw all the work you did on that house and yards and gardens, then all you did in your new space, I am humbled by what you have achieved. Congrats!! The excitement is contagious! You remind me of my dad, always a project on the go and something new to learn. He built our family home in the 90's, we have recently finished their off grid log cabin - and now we haul the sawmill home and begin making timbers for a dove tail building to house my grooming business! Gaining skills and memories at the same time!

I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's finished! The learning room can be a great place if y'all want to get involved with your local 4-H. The kids if they don't already do it at their houses can get experience with gardening and even learn about the animals y'all have.

Imposter Syndrome is real. I've had it on my channel. I just have to tell you how nice it's been to have you back on roots and refuge more. You've been missed and just remember of eight billion people, you know, more than a certain percentage of them, so you have a lot to offer. You're smarter than you think.
And just being real with us gives you a lot of street credit if you know what i'm trying to say.
