They’re basically more affordable artisans, which imo are the absolute pinnacle of hand crafted cymbals. I can’t wait until tomorrow when we get to finally hear the new anthology line
I think this is my new favourite cymbal series! My dream setup would be those 14" hats, that 18" thin crash, the 21" thin ride as a crash/ride, the 22" medium ride. Phenomenal sound!
These changed the way I play. I went from 16-19 crashes to the 22 and I’ll never be able to play smaller cymbals again. They are so controlled and perfect. It’s the sound, feel and vibe I’ve been after for years.
Thank you. Yesterday bought 14/16/18/20 pack. Gorgeous, stunning and amazing sound. To my ears these cymbals sound is even darker than you can hear on any video about HHX complex. You won't be disappointed. Now I want to buy 10 splash, 19/20 crash and 22/23 medium ride. If my ears are right, these 22/23 rides are one of the best ride cymbals ever created.
I have the 15” hats and 22” medium ride. They’re a dream pair. They offer everything from subtle to aggressive playing. I would love to see a Complex China.
Great review! I just bought these HHX Complex cymbals. I got the 15” Big Cup Hats, the 17” & 19” Thin Crashes, a 22” Thin Ride, and a 10” Aero Splash. I love them all. My future short list includes an O-Zone Crash, O-Zone China, Aero Crash, and a 7” Splash. Would be great if you updated you review to include the new cymbals! I would like to see them add a 12” Splash or Aero Splash. Maybe a small Holy China. Thanks! 👍🏻👍🏻
This is one of the best demonstration comparison Cymbal videos I have seen congratulations, can you do one on bright and glassy Cymbals as well everybody knows what dry means but the opposite of dry is much less clearer so I would suggest that you do a focus comparison of crashes and rides which are not dry In fact it’s often confused with not dark!!!
Thank you so very much for the awesome demo. You did such a great job, super helpful. I love these cymbals and you helped me to understand the voices of each.
Wow all those symbols sound so nice I'm just starting out again after 20 years not not playing I'm not very good but I would tend to go towards those HHX complex series They are beautiful
What a great review. All's it was missing for me was really laying into the crashes and rides instead of just accenting them. I have one of the 22" thin rides and it's amazing. They unfortunately seem so far to have a very wide weight range, (2100 to 2500 grams) and mine is right in the middle around 2300 g. As a main ride for louder volumes, you'd probably want the definition of the medium ride (or take your chances with getting a 2500+ g thin ride), but this cymbal is so nice.
Great video. One small request if you wouldn't mind taking one onboard...in the future when you demo hi-hats, please play them fully open as an extra dimension. I usually play them about a centimeter or more when I play, and it would be good to hear them in that context. Thank you. EDIT You did play them open a little near the end I noticed, which was great.
I own the 21" Thin Ride and the somewhat unspoken about 19" Ozone China. Fantastic cymbals. I'm kicking myself for not getting the 15" Medium Hats when I had the chance.
While a fan of 24” rides - that 21” is kind of amazing! Overall, a great series. I wish Sabian would do a 24” ride. I know about the Bash ride - I mean a medium 24” all rounder….
Maaaan, they knocked it out of the park with this line! I've been a die-hard Zildjian guy for years but I recently got the 22 HHX Medium Ride and let me tell you...my Constantinople has been benched! Now I'm looking to see what 20 or 21 would compliment it well. I'd like to be able to use it as a ride for hotel/cocktail hour gigs but also as a crash when the 22 is the main ride.
I liked all of them! Lately I have been enjoying the sound of bigger crashes and rides so, if anything, I would like to see them get bigger. Give me a 30" thin ride!
personally I've been trying to get my hands on a set of HHX complexes with a 21" thin ride, 19" and 17" crash, and 15" hats, I mainly play jazz but I also just really like darker cymbals
I made the mistake of buying a used 18" HHX complex thin crash just because it popped up on a sale page. Since then I've bought a 19" and 20" crash, a 10" splash, and now looking at the rides.. Even potentially moving from my Zildjian K Custom dark hats. Expensive cymbals but I've honestly never heard cymbals quite like these and as a result, my whole kit sound has completely stepped up a notch
overall, a wonderful line!! i think it would be fun to use them in an indie rock setting, where they’ll all get use, but it’s soft enough for them to be heard
my HHX complex setup would look like this. a set of 15 inch medium hi hats, a 23 medium ride, a 19 inch O zone crash, and 16, 18, and 20 crashes. cymbals that I would add are, 14, 15, and 16 complex thin hi hats, 24 complex thin ride, 16, 18, and 20 complex regular china's (I Know that they already have the O zone china's.) complex medium crashes, (same sises as the thin crashes but only go up to 20 inches for the medium crashes.) add a 14 inch thin crash, 10 and 12 inch O zone splashes, and 8, 10, 12, and 14 inch complex mini china's.
They sound so good here, but I've tried them several times because and hated the sound in person. So if you are thinking of buying them maybe try them first
I found these after being SEVERELY let down by the Zildjian K Sweet line. I wanted to love those, but the crashes just had no balls to them. Don't go off of any recordings you hear of those, they're horribly misleading. And, just to save you bros the time, I know there's "A lOt Of EdItInG dOnE iN tHoSe ViDeOs". Yes, I'm aware of that. But that doesn't change the fact that they sounded nothing remotely close to what I thought I was getting. Anyway, that disappointment led me back to SABIAN, and to the HHX Complex line. I found a 22" Thin Crash at a local drum shop, so I figured I'd give it a try, and bought it. I ended up loving it so much, I later got the 15" Medium Hats, 22" Thin Ride, and the 23" Medium Ride. All are amazing, but that 22" Thin Ride is easily my favorite. I play in a classic rock cover band, and I like to keep my setup as minimalistic as possible, so the 22" Thin Ride doubles as my ride, and my right crash. Love it, easily my favorite cymbal that I own. Would really love if they made it in 24".
I’m currently on the hunt for a new set and had my eye on the k sweets but I wasn’t convinced at all! I noticed that most artists don’t even use that line of cymbals as much but these just sound amazing!
I have a 22" thin ride as well and am in love with it. Do you know what weight yours is? They seem to have a large range (2100-2500 grams) and mine is right in the middle at 2300. A 24" version would be incredible, something to rival Zildjian's 24" K Light.
@@ScottDincorn No idea on the weight. But I love it so much if had to lose all my gear, and start over, but got to keep one thing, that would be it. Mostly because of its versatility, and range of uses.
For me it would be. 15 hhx complex Hi hat and 20 hhx complex crash & 24 hhx complex medium Ride & 22 hhx complex crash & 17 hhx complex ozone crash on top of a 19 hhx complex ozone crash as my stack & hhx complex 10 splash. I would use in a context of Christian Gospel Music and contemporary Christian Music.
listenig to the 4 ride cymbals, i can't decide if the 21" or 22" mediums works for me. In your opinion which of these two sizes do you like and think is the most versatil?????? Thanks for the help!!
The 22“ is more like a standard size but I personally like the idea of a 21“ ride For me a great way between a 22“ ride and a 20“ crash ride. So if you‘re looking for versatility I‘d go with the 21“ model 👍🏻
@@ArtOfDrumming Very nice buddy, i guess i"ll consider the 21". One final question, between the 14 complex hi hats and the 14 evolution, considering both are hhx series, which one would you go with??
Oh that‘s a good question Both great hi hats but I personally prefer the natural finish of the complex ones Brilliant hats are often a little to sharp for my personal taste I think the natural finish blends in with the other instruments while a brilliant hat often sticks out But I guess you can‘t do anything wrong with both

Dark and "Complex" is certainly right on target with these cymbals. No false advertising here, and are really musical sounding cymbals. A little bit on the "upper" end of the price range. But you get what you pay for I think. The cymbals should outlast you, and you could leave them to your kids in your will if you wanted to. So from that standpoint, are they really "expensive". I don't think so.
We actually got more than one cymbal pack. The only difference between promotional and performance and whatever else they offer are the sizes of the cymbals. The cymbal models are the same
These are the most beautiful cymbals sabian has made in a while.
amen🙏🏻

I’m definitely getting that 22” Complex Thin Crash
The Complex O-Zone Chinas are great too
I think this is my new favourite cymbal series! My dream setup would be those 14" hats, that 18" thin crash, the 21" thin ride as a crash/ride, the 22" medium ride. Phenomenal sound!
FYI - the 22" medium ride crashes exceptionally well. The wash is soooo smooth! Did I mention how great the bell is?
You gotta try those 15” Big Cup Hats! 😁👍🏻
These changed the way I play. I went from 16-19 crashes to the 22 and I’ll never be able to play smaller cymbals again. They are so controlled and perfect. It’s the sound, feel and vibe I’ve been after for years.
Try the 22" Thin Ride, I use it as my ride, AND my right crash for my gig setup. It crashes soo smoothe for a ride.

HHX Complex > PAISTE Masters
Yeah but paiste sigs are better lmao
Agreed, not a huge fan of the masters. But I like Paistes more in general.
Surprisingly enough I play punk rock and for the past year and a half I been playing 18 and 20in complex crashes. I think they sound great.
I have the 14 inch hats, they have a very crisp chick and sound great in a jazz context aswell as in rock, funk, Latin etc. Great pair of hats.
Dave Abbruzzese got me into Sabian cymbals with Pearl Jam, they sounded fantasti, I'm absolutely loving the sound of these!
I upgraded my entire kit (2 crash, ride, splash, hi-hat) with these and they are awesome! As good the Meinl Byzance series.
That is a big call and I think you might be right!
Every time i watch this cymbals i think, how this could be só perfect!
