Asking $77k is one thing. Finding someone foolish enough to pay that is another. It happens though, because fools and their money are easily parted. You could buy two Champs for that and have two decent airplanes instead of a single over-rated and overpriced one..
It’s a 0 time engine, brand new overhaul so a lot of funds when into that, also it was upgraded to a C85-12F from the original 65 engine. It also has very low airframe hours for a 1946 plane at 1,345 hrs TT.
There is nothing overated about a cub. Finest airplane ever built. A Champ is junk compared to a cub. I know, I owned six cubs and two Belanca Citabrias which were the last iteration of Champs. A 90hp Cub will outperform a 150hp Citabria. So you no nothing of what you are talking about
@@charlesfoster141 A Champ is a generation beyond a Cub in design. A Cub was an ok airplane for something cheap to fly in 1937, that's all. It's like the Model T, people love them for what they are, that doesn't make them somehow magically superior performing airplanes. The Champ is more like the Model A compared to a Model T like the Cub. Calling a Champ junk,is a ridiculous thing to say, with no basis in reality. I still say Cubs are over-rated in every respect, from structure, control systems, airfoil, and ergonomics.
Couple of numbers, what does it show for rate of climb on a 90 degree day? Also cruise under same conditions? Interesting panel for a J-3 with long wings. Fabric and finish are nice. Everything up front shows good workmanship as well. Got my first stick time in a J-3 about the time I learned to ride a full sized bicycle. Last one I flew was about 20 years ago. All stick and rudder with a light touch on the controls. Lots of TLC in this one. The right buyer will come along.
That type of price has never been prevalent. The " ship has sailed" on over priced j3 cubs if you watch this video real close there are some " not so nice" areas. I have seen nicer ones for considerably less.
Very nice cub and great that it has a fresh engine and good fabric but unfortunately it's still just a cub. Planes are just expensive to own, and when they need a rebuild or maintenance it just costs a lot of money. You will never get your money back out of any plane and that's just how it is. At that price you could get into the territory of buying a 172 or even a 182. It's just not worth anywhere close to 77k. Honestly I think it would be a hard push even at 40k.
Fabulous plan of his time of course all things come in time. Don’t mean as much as they do today. What I’m trying to say is that vintage cars that were worth a lot to the person as they renovated it now to the use of the day. Don’t mean anything. Money spent enjoying themselves with an aircraft fabulous thank you for being you, I love aircraft especially gliding. Regards Al from down under where that plane would be quite used.
Muy lindo video. Gratos recuerdos me trae, supe volar uno. Es un clásico para quien quiera y pueda darse un gusto. Claro que no se compra por negocio. Seguro aparecerá el comprador para él..
You and I were born too late. $1000 would have bought one when new. When I worked at Lock Haven airport, a new PA-18-150 was less than $30,000. But, that was in the late 70s and I was only making $4.65 an hour, so that didn't compute either.

A champ is not junk! Saying so shows bias . I have flown both and each have their qualities and bad points. Both are fine airplanes.

Reduce the price and you’ll probably get an instant sale
The price is negotiable, I’m just looking for serious interest first.

It has a 0 time engine. Brand new C85 major overhaul that costs around $30K and it it’s upgraded from the original 65 engine.

That’s a little low. The engine is a C85 upgrade from the original 65 and the overhaul costs around $30K alone.
A friend of mine has one. We use it to go ice fishing with on utah lakes every winter. So fun. 77,000 ? I think not. 😊
0 time engine. C85 fresh new major overhaul, a lot of funds went into that, also the lowest time original cub you’ll probably find, only 1,345 TT.
Pretty nice Cub !👍 My buddy has a 1947 J3 with the 104 horse power C85 upgrade . It's a fun plane to fly and really gets off the ground quick.
Love the Cub. Great to cruise along with both door sections open!!!! NH
Classic dream machine.
Picture are nice but information would be more helpful. How much are you asking, where is it located, how many hours does the engine have? ect. ect.
