I still disagree with this point, in the Ark of truth we see one of the Ancients with a schematic for a milky-way star gate, since the Ori also have access to stargate technology that is compatible with ancient technology it is more likely that the Destiny was build before the Ancients and the Ori Split off.
My head cannon is that is was the discovery of the Signal that originally caused the split.

I speculate that the wraith were created in phases. Initially the Iratus bugs were probably a scientific curiosity. When they started to absorb human/lantian DNA, the ancients probably got concerned but decided to continue to study these partial wraith to find ways to immunize themselves. Eventually they realized that these partial wraith could be the key to fighting the illness that was wiping them out, so they gave more lantian DNA to the partial wraith, and unintentionally created the wraith, which them escaped and started feeding on humans on a mass scale. As they continued to feed, a generation or two later, they solidified their genome and also become much more intelligent. Then the Ancients decided to go to war against the wraith.
If they closed off the gate to the planets with the partial wraith and the iratus bugs, they wouldn't be able to observe them or collect samples for study.

@@ArticBlueFox96 Your theory is interesting, but goes against the actual lore. It's stated in the novels of the Legacy series (which are canon) that the Wraith were created around 900 years before Atlantis was abandoned by the Ancients; it was an effort to make themselves immortal in case they couldn't ascend.
The Wraith used to be normal humans who were abducted and experimented on by the Ancients, but these experiments led to the creation of the Wraith who escaped after developing their telepathic powers.

The Ancients abandoned Destiny when they first discovered evolutionary Ascension. They didn't abandon it because the technology was obsolete but because the very purpose of Destiny was obsolete. Ascended beings can instantly travel anywhere in the universe so there is not much purpose for ships anymore.
As Anubis was about to destroy all life in the Milky Way by the end of season 8, Oma Desala told Daniel about the Ascended Ancients: "(They don't care because) one galaxy seems so insignificant to them compared to the infinite universe".

I am not exactly sure in which episode, but I am fairly certain, that it was stated, that it took or will take a long time for the orii to get to the milky way. This implies, that the ancients can not travel instantly to any place in the universe. As such, the destiny would not be obsolete.

    • @Spartan-343
      @Spartan-343 5 років тому +4

@@m.h.6470 You're correct. Ascended beings cannot travel instantly anywhere in the universe. They need to use a Stargate or a Supergate to travel between galaxies. They can apparently however teleport between the Higher Planes to anywhere in whatever galaxy they currently are in and back.
However in terms of travelling between planets or galaxies while still physically within the universe or on the Higher Planes, they do appear to need a Stargate or Supergate.
The maximum known range of teleportation for an ascended being while within the physical universe appears to be from a planet to that planet's orbit.

It's interested how we never got any closure as to whether or not the ancients found what they were looking for with destiny either, they may not have intended to abandon that mission but it may also have become impossible to gain the answer once ascended, or ascension was destiny's mission and they didn't know it, once they found out how to ascend they could have gotten their answer and destiny would have just been one failed attempt during an ultimately successful endeavor.

Frankly it always bugged me that the Ancients were so advanced they could make Stargates, Drone weapons, the Destiny, the Ark of Truth, frigging _city ships_, yet couldn't destroy a race as relatively primitive as the wraith...even the Asgard couldn't build tech on that level yet, but were capable of one shotting Ori motherships and pretty much any captital ship. Even severely outnumbered due to wraith cloning tech, they ought to be able to rip through hundreds if not thousands of wraith ships before sustaining any serious losses...

Wow, so much wrong in so little time. 1) Destiny was an abandoned project, sent from the earliest point in their interstellar history. We have no information that they did not find the answers they sought at some later time when their technology was more advanced. I highly doubt in 100,000 years any humans will remember the voyager probes. It is very likely that in the future, man may be able to easily leapfrog the voyager probes by traveling faster. There is a great old sci-fi episode(outer limits or twilight zone, I can't remember) where a man falls in love with a woman, and then leaves on a long range mission that will take decades. He decides to not freeze himself so that he can come back at the same age as his love, she freezes herself so she can spend her life with him and they are both screwed because a few years after he left, man figured out a way to get there in weeks instead of decades, rendering his mission useless.
    2) They didn't "wuss out" they were afraid of 2 things, first that there would be unforeseen consequences, for example the replicators turning against them, and secondly that the wraith might reprogram them to attack ancients instead of wraith. The ancients knew that replicators required neutronium, and by destroying the neutronium deposits, it was likely that the replicators would be contained, but not destroyed, just in case they were later needed.
    3) Project Arcturus was an experimental project towards the end of the war. The ancients needed to test the system, which had the potential of destroying a star system, but didn't necessarily have the time and resources for bench testing. The wraith were already going to attack the planet, so it wasn't like the people were going to die twice. Either the system worked, and killed the attacking wraith, or the system didn't work and the people died from the fallout instead of the wraith. When you are losing a war, you will try anything to turn the tide.
    4) We have no idea what the ancients did with the time machine. It is possible that they attempted to use it, and the temporal damage was worse every time. What if they used the time machine, and each time they went back to fix things, upon return the wraith were in control of more space? As a human example, Hitler made quite a few tactical mistakes, attacking russia in the winter, banning the production of submachine guns for assault troops, bad strategy in many campaigns. If the US were to invent a time machine to go back and kill Hitler at the beginning of the war, it is more likely that we would have a much harder time because a more capable tactician could end up in control of Germany, leading to more losses, not less. The ancients could have determined this, and banned the use of time machines on these grounds.
    5) They likely used the same technology (Dakara) to create life galaxy wide, and a galaxy is a very, very large thing. Fledgling life would be primitive and not immediately mobile. It's not like they abandoned them, just they weren't aware that the bugs even existed. And it is more likely that they were overconfident enough to assume that they could take any alien race that sprung up on the new colonies, being how advanced the ancients already were.
    6) We have no idea why those resources were created, or why they were abandoned. If for example the ships and technology were left behind because they were deep in enemy space at the end of the war, it could be that either they were considered destroyed, or it would be too dangerous to retrieve. It is easier to build a new ship than it is to lose 3 ships trying to retrieve a ship inside enemy space. The ancients could probably pop out ZPMs like we pop out duracells, so ZPMs were not a major concern to them. Just because humans cannot create ZPMs doesn't mean the people that invented them couldn't. As for the fallen ancient city, again, we have no idea why it was abandoned. Perhaps the entire population was culled, and retrieving it would have been too costly in lives and resources. Ancients likely could make all the drones they needed. The asgard had the ability to create stuff from energy, it is possible that the ancients also had that capability. Is it worth it to risk a battlecruiser and the few soldiers you have left to retrieve an easily replaceable commodity? No.
    7) The ancients and the Ori had one major difference, and it was a big difference. The ancients did not interfere because it would cause worship, and worship would grant additional power, they did not wish to become corrupted by that power, as the ori were. It is likely that the ancients were not capable of killing the ori, because the ori had a galaxy full of worshipers, that added to their power and the ancients did not. It is highly likely that the ori ships and pryors had technology that protected them from ancient detection or attack. It is also possible that the ancients, being from a higher plane, knew how the events would turn out and knew that SG-1 would assemble the weapon and kill all the ascended ori, so they didn't bother interfering. In the end, they managed to allow humans to grow through conflict.

This has two side effects, 1) they act as beacons 2) more costlier and potentially could run out of power sooner.
Also its quite probable that Destiny's gate and the gate on the seed ships make, are not the same model. The ones on the planets will have the sensors arrays which are getting the information not Destiny. Those gates do have power sources, just not for dialing.

This can be looked at from two different perspectives. First, (sorry if I rant out of order) I have issues with the Lanteans more than their Alteran ancestors in the Milky Way. They did a fire and forget when they created humans in Pegasus, but the canon book in the SGA series actually debunked the iratus bug/human natural cross-evolution theory. Actually adds to the list of Lantean follies.
As for time travel, Einstein would have slapped everyone who thought about using it. One word: causality! Forget the butterfly and grandfather effects, try full-on paradox. If you go back and prevent something from happening, how do you then know to go back in time to fix it the second time. You'd actually just make a new alternate reality, and the original timeline/reality would still experience the events you're trying to prevent. Unless you're a Time Lord, and can build a machine to counteract paradox's, time travel is too tricky to attempt.
Destiny wasn't before its time, per se, and they died off or ascended millions of years ago. Also, if it were me, I would have made a drone version, not a habitable ship, to send out. So much space was given over to life support and crew areas. A much smaller, purpose-built ship could have acted as a data gathering drone. Honestly, what's the purpose of a crew, anyway? They only want the data, there wasn't really a physical destination at the end of Destiny's mission, just the need to cover vast distances to collect as much of the signal as possible. Wait a million years, track the ship, then fly out through hyperspace to retrieve it. Drop off a newer, updated drone ship to take over the mission, replacing the previous one that has a million years of wear and tear on it. Take the last million year's data back to be analyzed, then lather, rinse and repeat until you have everything you need.
The Asuran replicators were supposed to be just nanites, like a disease, but kept wanting to form larger collectives, in other words, humanoid shapes. The Lantean's confuse me, in that they bombard the planet, thinking they destroyed them, but don't go back to check. Also, after the Alliance of human, Traveler and Wraith destroy their planet, Weir's rebel replicators, flying an Aurora, say they can't detect any remaining nanites. Why couldn't the Lanteans detect the surviving nanites, using the same technology? Lastly, aside from failing to add a failsafe code, why did they have to make them aggressive? Machines don't need to feel to kill. I would think following their programming would be more efficient in killing the Wraith.
The abandoned "key pieces of military tech" wouldn't have helped. A few ships vs hundreds of hives is a non-starter. The "Tower" buried city-ship, I somehow got the idea that it crashed. (The premise for this episode always seemed flimsy to me, like they just needed a way to replenish the drones and Jumpers they'd used up and lost during the seasons.) If it was abandoned during the war, especially if the Wraith attacked it, why didn't the Wraith take the ZPM? In the books, the Wraith only overpowered and outnumbered the Lanteans because of a few captured ships ZPMs which they used to power cloning facilities. If they knew about the Tower, why wasn't it picked bare, instead of the ZPM slowly being depleted over time by foolish "Lord Protectors"?
My biggest issue with Project Arcturus is not the technology, or the weapon used to bleed off excess produced energy, but that they went full-scale on the prototype. Unless they literally couldn't, they should have done a proof of concept prototype small enough to hold in their hand, but of course, they were Ancients, and the Ancients do everything big! They were famous for offworld research bases. Why not this time? Why not build or convert a small ship, like a cruiser, into a mobile lab rather than use a populated planet. They could have even made the lab detachable from the ship, so they could eject it and jump to hyperspace, leaving it to explode harmlessly in empty space.
As for the Ascended wiping out Ori followers in the Milky Way, yes there's the non-interference rule, but they allowed Morgan to preserve Merlin, all those years ago. They must have been planning to "not interfere" and allow him to eventually carry out his plans against the Ori, just not then.
All of this, however, has a much simpler explanation. It's a TV show!!! Abandoned, damaged ships were plot devices to give the viewers new drama to watch as the heroes continue to scrape by against overwhelming odds. You'll notice that every Aurora Atlantis got their hands on was destroyed not long after they got it. Each example of Alteran/Ascended/Lantean stupidity is just a way to introduce something for the heroes to get their hopes up over for each new episode.
The reason why the Atlantis expedition never got ahold of the way to make ZPMs or more drones was entirely to keep the heroes as the underdogs. If humans suddenly had access to nearly unlimited ZPM and drones, coupled with the plasma beams and other Asgard technology, the show would be very boring. They could have just asked the AI in the Asgard computer core to give them the means to make neutrino-ion generators, and they could have built enough to easily power the Stargate to Pegasus, as well as install enough on Atlantis to fully power the ship. It's not like they really need all of those empty towers. lol If the four generators on an Asgard ship could nearly equal a ZPM in output, a dozen or so on Atlantis would have the ship up and around in no time. But, if they had it too easy, we would have never bought it as an audience, and the show would have ended long before MGM went bankrupt.
Without the struggle to survive from episode to episode, I would never have watched all three shows in the SG universe from start to finish. The heroes getting the upper hand, and gaining access to the most powerful tech is better left for fan fiction. I'll never publish it, because I'm an atrocious writer, but that's why I wrote one of my own. I can give them a christmas list of tech, and even ship whoever I want together, but I keep hesitating to let the bad guys have a fighting chance. Thus, it will never see the light of day.

Redundant systems and power management. I swear that all of the systems that had redundancies were the systems that never needed them and the systems that didn't have redundancies or at least damage control of some sort were the ones about to kill everyone. For example, they built a great and powerful city-ship, Atlantis, that could fly into space and to other galaxies but didn't incorporate emergency doors capable of withstanding the vacuum of space, or even the water that it was meant to be able to float on. Then there is the shield and cloak of Atlantis, come on you couldn't see how effective the jumper cloak was and think that maybe you could really use that right now. If only there was a redundant set of shield emitters to convert very easily into a cloak.
They also obviously didn't think about how much power they used. If I was building something as complex and important as a city ship, I would want it to be able to survive and function no matter what was thrown at it or taken out of it. If I had the resources of the Ancients at my disposal, I would still want everything to be able to run with minimal or no outside power being supplied to it. They had power sources smaller and easier than ZPMs, why couldn't they at least incorporate them throughout the city if not in every room or machine to leave the really big stuff to the ZPMs. No, they didn't even program a power saving mode to cut power to everything that is not the only thing between you and death. And if the city was completely cut off they had absolutely no way to make more. I would think that they would have thrown in stellar plasma collectors that they have had SINCE THE DESTINY to recharge the city-ship, or at least have some ship to go collect it for you. And why didn't they at least have the plasma collectors on the battleships that would be on the front lines getting pummeled and depleting ZPMs. Also the ZPMs, genius idea, but why can't energy be pumped back into them like a rechargeable battery instead of a throughout. You could have the battleships running on ZPMs in conjunction with their own power systems and plasma collectors, and then while in the star you could recharge the ZPMs.
There is also the stargate itself. The Asurans gave me this idea. They pumped a massive amount of energy through that thing and in doing so were able to transfer power across the galaxy potentially indefinitely. If there were energy harvesters like at a star collecting plasma or a Dyson Swarm reflecting light to solar cells, they could have built a different type of stargate that was meant just for energy transfer and not tied into the other networks. They could have powered anything from anywhere with anything.
Lastly there are the Asurans. Obviously the Ancients messed up by just bombing them, but I'm talking about the technology itself in other applications. They could have built nanoprobes that were not nearly as intelligent nor used as a weapon, all they had to do was build and repair stuff. The Asurans repaired the main parts of Atlantis within hours and they rebuilt a whole fleet of battleships within days or weeks. If the Ancients would have utilized the replicators' exponential construction abilities, then they probably would have won the war.

Ok... so 1st one - not really, after Destiny was launched they were on the path to ascension so it BECAME obsolete. It was not during launch. 2nd - you don't know the chronology. Repository of knowledge might as well contain data and technologies obtained AFTER pegasus replicators (failed) annihilation. But if ancients are idiots for NOT building a failsafe switch to nanobots (but embedding "don't harm ancients" command) how would you categorize humans for experimenting on very deadly viruses with no failsafe switch, no cure at all? 3rd - guess what, didn't Rodney and Zelenka learned of exotic particle creation only AFTER failed start-up? Didn't Sklodowska-Curie discovered that glowing of polonium might not be the best thing to the health AFTER she exposed herself to it and got sick? Well .. unexpected results or byproducts are inherent part of many experiments. If ancients were idiots for experimenting with something going beyond subspace and our reality they who are we? ;) 4th - well sure, things went a lot better to the alternate timeline on Moebius, right? Everyone was so happy right? No? How come? Ohhh... something went wrong. Ok... Harry Potter then, why not just go back in time with Hermione's gadget and kill Tom Riddle (as shown in some parody animation) ? ;) Or Star Trek - slingshot back in time and kill borg ;) Well in all of those cases there was a reasoning 1 - you can't be sure altered timeline will be better (yes, butterfly, not to count many ppl alive would never exist in alternate timeline so what exactly is good in sacrificing those?), 2 - you can create a paradox threatening existence of the entire universe (grandfather). So what's idiotic in ban to time travel? And the last one - didn't they mention they were already outgunned? So what good would 3 aurora class battlecruisers do? One asgard-beam based Dedalus might successfully engage several of those (replicator's replicas ;) ) and wraith only needs to send more hives (and guess what - initial atlantis siege was 3 hives and several cruisers - more than enough for 1 aurora class; next wave was 12 hives, more than enough for 3 auroras). Ancients did submerge the city because shields would not hold out the bombardment of the whole armada. Outpost in "Tower" had non-functional star drive (so was stationary, all they could do is salvage some drones).
Now then if those 5 arguments were examples of ancient idiocy then how would you categorize 1. establishing extremely costly installation on icarus-type planet which destroys itself once it dials destiny ;) 2. nuking shipyards vastly superior species, 3. recreating failed and abandoned ancient experiment not once but TWICE with a huge explosion as a result, 4. moebius ;) stargate continuum... 5. Ok... so Woolsey found ancient lab full of toys made by Janus. With Attero out of the way the best way would be to salvage it... but hey, why don't just blast it ;) Replicator's homeworld - so we suck those bastards down to the planet and have plenty of ZPMs down there waiting to beam up (as shown in Siege 2 ZPM can be asgard-beamed) ... nah, better let them to be destroyed; salvage some of those empty aurora-class replicator manufactured ships and divide between atlantis and travelers? Nah, let them burn! Grow their own Hive ship? Nah... kill it entirely, not preserve even a sample. Got a free hiveship in their hands? Smash it to the cloning facility instead of overloading ZPM ... Soo is technological advancement actually the same thing as all-knowing and never making mistakes? Nope.

My only criticism is about Destiny’s speed.
“Faster than light, but not Hyperspace”. And yet even after millions of years of near continues use, it can still cross a galaxy in a few years and the bridge the expanse between galaxies in a few weeks.
Remember, three years to pass through “a very large galaxy” and cross a very large void to the next galaxy. That’s a whole lot faster than near lightspeed or just above, but none the less, just a fraction as fast as speeds that they are use to. And with millions of years of wear without a maintenance check could have slowed the ship considerably, just as with the rest of the systems which are operating far below factory specs.

They found the drones in boxes, I think that it was only the one until the Season 2 ep “Twin Destiny’s”. Though the Ancients likely outfitted the ship with a few active drones, it’s been millions of years and aliens have tried to take Destiny in the past.
They found the ship with a lot of wear-and-tear and damage, with sections sealed off and parts and systems working at far below ideal capacity, such as the drives and batteries and weapons and air filters, were often major plots right from the start.
You get dust from dead skin, animals, insects and airborne dirt and sand. The Destiny would’ve only been exposed to skin and that would’ve been prior to its launch.
They wanted to contrast the Destiny era of tech/architecture with that of the Atlantis era, where everything seemed to be in near mint condition despite being up to a few million years old (which I figure was thanks to nano tech), as well as to underline that it was never manned despite being clearly designed for people.
The only problem that I have with this is that everything breaks down at the molecular and even atomic level. But with the Ancients being a Kardeshev 3 level civilization, the writers of the Franchise regularly bypassed this with “they built things to last”. Which makes sense, when considering the Destiny’s mission.
All told, I don’t take this as really a problem with the writing or a plot hole by itself.

And so, it is unsurprising that in our study of their histories within the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies we find great potential for hubris and techno-politics. In Pegasus, particularly, this complicated political process was violently interrupted by the uplifting of an entirely new form of life. The emergence of the incipient form of Wraith was met with decades long debates over rights to life and, natural evolution. And when the threat was fully realised, it was the Alteran successes that went largely unrecorded. No one mentions the Argonias star system, which was pushed out of phase and hidden from the wraith. Here's an obvious thing. If they do make a new Stargate series that unites all the others, as has been mentioned, I see: The Ancients launched Destiny long before they ascended. We don't know why they never recalled it. Maybe it just got overlooked or lost. Maybe it never collected the data they wanted. Now that it's not lost and there is a need for it here I see them pressing the hidden super hyperspace "recall button" built into Destiny. Couple months later it arrives at Earth to repair, resupply and continue its mission and we have the basis of a new SG series with all of our favorite people on it. (I just wonder if the new crew will include Wraith and Ancients?) It's not interfering. Destiny is a human made ship sent out by humans. Recalling it early is not much interferance and they've sure done worse. After the Adria/Morgan battle they may have decided to take a more "hands on" approach to the galaxy.
I have no idea who the bad guys would be though.

Also, your last point about non-interference by the ascended Ancients, even to kill priors or soldiers alien to the Milk-Way, was actually explained by (the Gorgeous Brazilian Actress) Adria. The Ori were taunting the ascended Ancients to do exactly that, to break their own rule, and they rather die than break it (in a massive scale, small exceptions as punishment, like Oma and Morgan were ok), because then, who would define where the limit was? I never got the impression that they abandoned Destiny, at least not at first. They probably were in regular contact and kept it provisioned and manned for a long time until something prevented them, like the plague and abandoning the Milky Way. In any case, they should have built a hyperdrive version and sent it to catch up with and replace Destiny, or sent parts through the Gate and upgraded or built a new one on the spot.
    More reasons
-Replicators were programed not to hurt Ancients. Why not ALL humans?
-No ZPM factory on Atlantis or anywhere.
-No Asgard type transporters despite being millions of years more advanced.
-The fact that they even bothered building Aurora class ships that didn't have a hyperdrive.
-All the tech they left scattered around Pegasis could have majorly upgraded the Wraith, but the Wraith never managed to find any of it until SGA.
-Didn't take Atlantis back to the Milky Way with them when they tucked tail and ran.

I would have to make the argument that the Ancients' biggest mistake would have to be CREATING THE WRAITH IN THE FIRST PLACE! The SGA book series 'Legacy' states that the Ancients themselves designed the wraith as a possible alternative for ascension. At least a small portion of ancients planned to convert their DNA to resemble something like a wraith. This would be especially true for those who felt that Ascension may be beyond their grasp. In short, the wraith experiment was the Ancients' best try at physical immortality. Ironically, they didn't create a solution for those of the population who could not ascend. Instead they created the one type of being that would eventually destroy the last of their civilization. Remember that by this time, Ancients in the Milky Way (Avalon) was now defunct. The last of their civilization was confined to the Pegasus Galaxy. The Pegasus is a dwarf galaxy, a tiny fraction of the size of the Milky Way. By proxy, the remaining ancients in Pegasus were a tiny fraction of the original population in the Milky Way. The last of their kind. Despite everything, they were still holding on and developing their technology until the Lantian-Wraith War which ended their civilization forever. I would further argue that destroying one's own civilization, in a misguided attempt to save it is the epitome of idiocy!

The ancients abandoned their plan to board destiny because of their work into ascension. They are prudent planners. But millions of years ahead???
The ancients failed to completely destroy the replicators for one simple reason. They were on their last legs in their war with the wraith. The resources and time to "make sure" was simply not available. And they didn't wuss out (it does frustrate me that someone like yourself doesn't grasp who the ancients were). The wraith were a species, culing humans for food. They were not an enemy out to eradicate or enslave a galaxy. They were doing what we do to cattle. The ancients understood this, and were very conflicted on how to deal with this. Doesn't sound like stupidity too me, but evolved thinking. They left their own galaxy when they split with the ori.
Project acturis was the ancients way of doing what the forerunners could do in their universe, which was extract vacuum energy from other universes. It failed, they made a mistake. Not stupidity, desperation prehaps. They were not, infinitely wise and were never shown to be.
And the whole time machine thing. Going back and screwing with causality like that? And for what? Did they have info on which exact planet(s) the eraithus bug first evolved into the wraith? Were they going to wipe the eraithus species out? Something against the very core of their beliefs?? That's why the time machine was never to have been made in the first place.
See above for the araithus bug. A species that feeds. The ancients helped seed life and left it to evolve by itself in almost every case. This is also the reason why they never helped lowers ascend.
    The ships and tower??
The reason for them not interfering with the ori is also the same reason the never helped lowers ascend. It's really simple. The ori never interfered themselves, they did it in a way that was possible in our plain. Which we could have found a counter for, which we did, we just didn't have the time to make more.
The ancients may seem stupid to us.

i think i found a solution to the causality problem with time travel... basically, you go back, take three, count them three, copies of your time machine tech with you and prevent or tell them how to prevent a disaster. once done, you leave the copies behind, the new timeline builds the time machine after everting the crysis and travel back in time to replace the originall time traveler with a new warning. the too carry two new copies and a original copy to close the new loop. presto, problem solved, the original time line becomes obsolete and the new one keeps going because it is basically running on a causality loop. the thre copies thing is basically only there to ensure that the tech does not degrade or accumulate erros over an infinite copy cycle.

Don't forget that the Ori (who were also ancients) forgot to populate other galaxies to increase the number of followers for a 100 000 years.

The two biggest problems of the Ancients I see is:
    1) Why didn't they build a reactor to power Atlantis?
    2) Beam weapons. Why did they rely solely on what amounts to missiles? They could have literally melted Wraith ships using beam weapons.

I’ve got two things about the Ancients, 1. I’m like 95% sure whoever made Reese (the human form replicator who made the bug replicators) did it on orders of the Atlantis council, doing it in the Milky Way so that if they ran into trouble it wouldn’t really affect them, so they could continue the project from a safe distance, when it failed (absolutely miserably) they just decided not to bother with it any more. 2. They didn’t clean up after themselves in the Milky Way, They left so much crap everywhere it’s not really a surprise a race like the Goa’uld found it and used it to take over, and if I understand the timeline correctly they left all that stuff there while they were still living in the Milky Way, long before Pegasus and the excuse of being too preoccupied with the war to clean up. Yes I imagine some of it was put there after they came back but they seriously should’ve been more careful. So yeah, I don’t think they were just idiots, they were arrogant and thought far too high of themselves, i’m far too low of humanity, they may claim not to act as Gods like the Ori, but they sure as hell think themselves that.

The Ancients weren't idiots. They're the prime example that wisdom is not the same as intelligence. All the wise members of their race end up ascending leaving behind the unwise (but dangerously intelligent) remnants.

They also created the ataro device, the one to destroy wraith ships, but decided not to use it due to stargate exploding as well, but I belive, and I might be wrong, but that while they where still in milkyway galaxy they had also created another device that sets stargates into dormancy until it is turned off again, so the files ahould to my mind still be in there computers, so they should have been able to have found it there, or it should have been possible for them to come up with a new one on there own, if they considered the problem.

about the generator: it's even more stupid than you think cause that thing at best was supposed to generate at best like 50times the energy of a ZPM - by being 200times bigger and having a whole building constructed around it.
They made the exact same error as the empire in star wars. building a superweapon when a couple regular starship would've had the same effect

You missed out the Attero device that disrupted Wraith hyperdrive frequencies, destroying them when they jump to hyperspace. Yes it had a side effect of also blowing up Star Gates, but I'm sure they could have temp disabled the Stargate system. Stargate command wrote a virus to do just that.

With regards to the Ori: the Ancients wouldn't have even needed to wipe out their cult. Just snap their fingers, take away the Prior's powers, make their warships vanish, place their cult soldiers on some random world where they can't hurt anyone, and send the supergates to some random galaxy, cutting off the Ori from the Milky Way.
And while they're at it, reprogram the Milky Way gates so that every time that the Ori try to access them, they get an error message.
It's not like the Atlantis gates don't already have something like this (although it's never explained if it's just for Earth, or every single planet in the Milky Way. Seems likely, otherwise there's not much point).
Same thing goes for any galaxies that the Destiny has visited, or the Destiny itself.
If they try to send their ships into other galaxies, reprogram the navigation computers to send them back to the Ori galaxy, land on the nearest planet with a gate, and then permanently burn out the engines. Or just stick the necessary components in the closest star.
In other words, the Ancients aren't going to stop the Ori from being the subject of their own cult, but they sure as hell can make sure that if they are going to be a cult, they are going to have to keep it in their own damned galaxy.

Now that Stargate is free on Pluto, is there a chance you could start doing a watch along?
I just started watching them for the 5th or 6th time. Every time I start watching it I have questions that would be cool to discuss while watching the show.

You have TOTALY right. This is because the Ancients have not only achieved a higher form of intelligence, but too incredible self-confidence in their own intellect. They had become just too arogant.
Good reasonings from you Taylor aka The Stargate Guy. I like it. its true. It is something else if one can think in other level and is something else if you TOTALY forgot the elementary logic in all like the Ancients.

Sorry but no, time manipulation is too dangerous. Going back in time and stopping the wraith may seem like a good idea, but who knows how the timeline will be affected. Heck look what happened when SG-1 used it to steal a ZPM.
Think about it this way, wraith never happen, then the ancients never leave Atlantis for earth. No ancients on earth mean no cultural changes, whoops there goes humanitys timeline. Also Morgan and Merlin then don't setup the whole Camelot thing and therefore no Sangraal, so even if we do make it to the Ori then POOF, we done. And all that is just a LITTLE bit of what could happen if the ancients time lined the wraith out of existence.

They were in an alliance of 4 advanced races. Never asked one to help with the wreath or the plauge. Like I'm sure the non aggressive ones would help with a illness.
Never tryed to help assgard solve the cloning issue.
Never build defensive systems around their worlds. Just ships or city ships with weapons.
Came back to earth, never seemed to do anything between coming back and the illness that killed them.
Didnt leave databases like the one O'Neall tapped 2 times. But with safety features.
Didn't make their technology 100% human only. that would have stopped issues in the milky-way alone. unos Gould would never spread out. (sorry for spelling)

1 word, Anubis. They have been ascended for how long and they couldn't figure out how to fully descend Anubis, how can descend Daniel twice butt ass naked, the one guy that was in love with Carter who built a mini stargate in her basement, how can he descend to help them out, but won't do jack squat against Anubis? Brings up a contradiction there though, they wouldn't let Anubis use knowledge gained from ascended beings but more than happy to let priors use that same knowledge to inflict plagues upon people, and use higher knowledge to gain more followers.

I don’t think the Ancients were as unified as we might think. The Ori faction of the Ancients known previously as the Altarans prove divisions and splinter groups did various things throughout history. The Ancients known as Atlanteans/Ancestors are another such faction. We see Asgard have factions too like in Pegasus and Loki went off on his own. Though I never bought the idea Loki acted alone or ever without council approval.

They were even dumber with the replicators. The replicators wanted to be less aggressive and the ancients were like this is a failed weapon, time to kill it.
But a less aggressive replicator army could have still been a assist to do things like build defences. They might still have attacked wraith in self defense
