Hello everyone, in today's video I will be discussing the disappearance of Paul Colucci. Paul went missing in Baxter State Park on September 8, 2021.
Paul Colucci was last seen around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 8 on Russell Pond Trail in Baxter State Park.
Paul is 60 years old, 5'10'" and weighs between 150 and 160 pounds. He is a white, with blue eyes and gray hair. Paul was thought to be on the Russell Pond Trail, which runs north from Roaring Brook Campground on the east side of Mt Katahdin, to Russell Pond Campground.
Anyone with information about Colucci’s whereabouts, or if you had any contact with him during the time of September 8, 2021 please contact the Maine State Police at 207-532-5400.

Hopefully the coverage will spread the word about this missing person. I am not connected to this person in any way - in fact I live in Australia! I saw a missing poster for him in a FB "missing persons" group, and was concerned about his fate.

Good for you, Bryan, to cover the lesser or little known cases. Every life matters. Every hiker or wilderness explorer deserves to have their safety and well-being respected.
Sadly there are so many cases that don’t get covered. If more cases had immediate coverage and more people cared then many cases would be solved or at least increase the chances of helping those in trouble

Baxter is a state park. It is not a national park. You might enjoy the book, "Lost on a Mountain in Maine" about 12 year old Donn Fendler who was lost for 9 days and survived (1939) there. He was a favorite public speaker for many years. He died in 2016. Geraldine Largay was hiking the Appalachian Trail. In July 2013 she went off trail in Maine, got lost, didn't make it out alive. She kept a journal that was eventually found with her body two years later (Redington Township, Maine). There is a book about her entitled, "When You Find My Body," by Dee Dauphinee. Mrs. Largay was found only two miles off the trail. One might wonder, how did she get so lost or why didn't or couldn't she find the trail and get back on it etc.

I'm 67 years old and I backpack alone in places like the John Muir Trail and the Appalachian Trail. I always leave an itinerary with my wife and I carry an InReach Mini satellite messenger. Hiking alone isn't too dangerous if you are in good health, experienced, properly equipped and take reasonable precautions. There are always risks associated with being in the back country, and the unexpected can always happen. That is what makes backpacking an adventure. We incur those risks willingly. Having said that, I hope this has a good outcome for Paul and his family. Baxter State Park is wild country.
Agree, but would quibble with the “if in good health” that it is pretty safe, as it is often hard to tell if “in good health.” For example, for about 25% of people, the first sign they have heart issues is a sudden heart attack. Same with strokes…the day before that piece of a atherosclerotic clot breaks off and lodges in your cerebral artery, you are the picture of health. Obviously, these are rare, but 23 million people visit US Parks annually, so the rare unlucky stuff can happen.
I’m 54, female and I hike alone with my dog all the time. Like yourself, I am prepared and armed.
My husband, kid and I hiked Sierra Nevada trails in the '70's, and luckily never came to harm. When I look back, I cringe at some of the dangers we faced.

This is the most information I've seen on any media source about this case. I first learned about Paul Colucci's disappearance on 9/13 when I hiked up Katahdin on a trail that intersects the one he was last seen on 9/8. I heard search helicopters nearby and then saw posters at the ranger stations. But none of the media has published anything since 9/14 which is extremely odd. You would think the authorities and family would be getting information out to the public but most people here in Maine have not even learned he is missing. I e-mailed the Portland Press Herald's news desk a few days ago to ask them to publish an update, but still nothing.
I grew up in Maine. In the 1960s a lost child in the woods was front page news in the Portland Press Herald. If they were found alive they had been nearly eaten alive by the mosquitoes and black flies. Because it is so common what with all the half bright unfit people traipsing about in the woods now, I can see there might be little interest in missing adults that should have known better.
First rule of hiking, ALWAYS leave an itinerary with someone and always check in when you get to camp. People who are experienced become complacent and fail to see the importance of this.
So VERY TRUE!!!! BTW, if you can't make a call try texting as that may go thru even if your call doesn't. Send a picture- will have your location on it if your location settings are on!! Not just hiking but other jobs. LEAVE a note in your car also with the route that you plan on taking- even on the floor board, somewhere so that park officials know where to find you. The most important thing is to find someone dependable who will call 911 if you don't show up and not forget about you, your trip, or just assume you forgot to call and are ok without bothering to call or text PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring a WHISTLE!!!! The noise carries further than a human voice plus if you're injured tired etc you may not be able to yell very loud. A whistle can carry 1/2 mile away so someone else can hear you BEFORE you hear them!!! I really hope they find him. I've gone missing hiking by myself in the past, have sprained my ankle, and had a mishap or two. Luckily, I used my shirt for ankle support and made it back home with the other situations.
Turn Around and try it another day, PLEASE trust your 6 the sense, intuition, sign from God, etc and leave an area if the hair on the back of your neck stands up, you have a bad feeling, etc .

That body hunter is definitely after the 50k the FBI is offering, not doing it on honor of gabby!

Also, he knows what it’s like to lose a 23 year old daughter. From the start of his channel, Brian has always, been not only professional, but extremely extensive with his info. And I'm not mad that he has a great soothing voice, that actually makes you want to listen to every word that he says.

Beautiful place in early Autumn. 🍂 If they didn't find a campsite, that seems odd since I don't think your supposed to just camp wherever there. I hope they find him, they found his car? There's a lot of other places he could have been to, so it seems like his car would be somewhere to give an indication. I hope he comes out of this. We know it's possible.
I live about an hour from Millinocket and haven’t heard about this. It’s been really rainy this summer/fall and some of the trails are rocky and steep. I hope he is found and his family gets closure.
From what I have read about this case, I have a strong suspicion that this man went into the woods to end his life. Him not being found by now wouldn't be surprising if he found a hidden spot. I hope he is found, but at this time the chances are slim.
Please people if you are going camping alone take the proper precautions. Take emergency provisions, bear spray, GPS not one that works with your phone, satellite. Please be safe think about your loved ones and the people that risk their lives to come look for you. Be safe blessed be to all the missing.
Just plan more!!! Map, compass, list all possible dangers, items to counter dangers, most survival things, and so on!!!
I knew a guy in the 80's who told me that if you wanted to never see another human, go into the Adirondacks, this is probably very much the same. he will be hard to find. Even if it's hours before rescue, at least they know where you are. Get the GPS unit. It saves lives and time when they're not searching for you.
I live in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and I have often camped deep in the forest with my kids. Nowadays we carry guns. We are thankful for the many memories we have made, safely, over the years. There are at least five people who have gone missing in the past fifty years in the Adirondacks, and no trace of them has ever been found.
@@mommalynnette8190 In 1979 2 troop leaders and 14 boy scouts on 7th lake. We lost (sunk junk leaky canoes and lost supplies) 4 out of 7 canoes. One leader took the youngest back in the canoes, the rest of us followed our other leader and were hopelessly lost for 4 days. If It weren't for Todd climbing a tree to pee on us (big joke of his, he did it all the time) he wouldn't have see a reflection from a distance. We made it out, but it was sketchy for a few days.

True but sure become over confident, complacent, don't tell someone the route they're taking, return time, no water, flashlight, whistle, correct clothing, etc. Accidents happen!!! I've had a few hiking by myself and luckily made it back to my car, home. Also follow your 6th sense, hair standing up on the back of your neck and get out of the area!! No matter how peaceful or serene it looks!!! That has saved my life also.
Wouldn't you think the lords and masters on the Hill by now would be wanting to look into this phenomena, especially with what David Paulides, Rusty West, Missing Persons Mysteries and Bryan have done to highlight the issue constantly, but not a sound from them, life carries on as usual in their world !!!!!

I've hiked that area many times, both solo and with others. In Baxter, you need to register for your stay, their are trail logs, sign in for hikes and sign out when you arrive. On the Roaring Brook trail to Russell Pond it is necessary to wade a stream closer to Russell Pond. It can be a bit treacherous with high water. It is entirely possible if he fell in with a pack on, that he might have drowned and the stream took him away from the trail. The trail itself (and there are two options for this hike) is well defined and heavily traveled.
Hope he gets found....so sad 😥.

So sad. I was only 3 miles away staying at Pogy Pond Lean-to from 9/7 to 9/10/21. I had noooo idea this happened, and still did not get any word or even hint of anything amiss when I hiked from Pogy Pond back to South Branch pond on 9/10.

One correction on your story. Here in Maine, Baxter is not a National Park. It is a State Park. The state of Maine makes it very clear that the onus is on you to be responsible for your own safety when you are out hiking. These mountains don't play. This weather doesn't play.
Yup, watching nature shows and virtue signaling your silly friends that you love the "environment," in no ways prepares you for an environment that doesn't love you back. In fact, that environment of the Maine woods has been busily killing people since before the white man showed up.

If he had reservation to camp at Russell pond he would of had to cross a stream on the Russell pond trail to get there .I entered park on the 11th n rangers warned of possible high waters if it rain heavy again .how high was the wass. Stream on wed??

It’s a good thought, although I crossed the steam to Russell Pond on the 17th and the water wasn’t too bad then. Certainly enough time to recede, but there had been heavy rain over the weeks leading up to our arrival and the water was only about knee high.
@@Kenneth-jx3of after heavy rain usually takes 25 to 36 hrs to recede .that stream is normally easy to cross .the lady ranger on north end of park seemed concerned about that area if it rain ed again .
I crossed it a few weeks before and it was about knee high. It was tough for my 8 year old to navigate, but otherwise manageable. I don't know what kind of rain was had in the area over the 3 weeks between when I was there and he was. I feel like that crossing could be pretty hairy if the water were high.

Thank you for this video, you are clearly well intentioned. Paul is not missing, he was my father and went to Baxter to end his life.
Did someone drop him off or did they find his car parked somewhere? What was his general health? I have hiked in and around Baxter when I was a young dude, even in a dense fog on a trail and in mid winter. If he was on an established trail, and given his age and experience in that area, it is hard to believe he just vanished by walking off aimlessly in the woods. Unless, he wanted to get a remote photograph, and lost his way back or met up with a mishap? It is a shame and I hope they find him.
If that's a recent picture of him on the video, he looks darn good for 60. Better than a lot of 40 something men.
@@reesedaniel5835 Yes, he does look pretty healthy and young for his age. However, so did a guy at the gym I used to work out at and he (50s) had a sudden massive coronary and died...rare but who knows? Hopefully they find him...alive! Once the leaves fall, it opens up the sky view but blankets anything on the ground which can confound things.

I do allot of hiking myself in Montana . And have gotten lost myself several times. Suddenly on one occasion my what should have been a 4 hour hike Turned to almost 12 hours having got lost. And when your in a area where you cannot even hear a loud truck or motorcycle driving down a road off in the distance to just get out .Regardless how far away from your car. Then it gets dark . And if you are in a area you cannot see any lights to just follow to get out you can start to panic and make things worse for yourself. I myself love hiking. But not very smart about it as I should be.Hopefully they will find the man lost in Baxter. It is always bad for the ones who just keep hoping a person is alright.But fearing the worse but still cannot move on till at least a body in worse case is found.A person dies .Their thoughts are over.But the ones left behind thoughts they take to their graves not knowing what happened to the missing.Thanks for posting the stories. They are interesting and sad at the same time.

There have been numerous disappearances from Baxter state park. With zero evidence found as to what happened. And in mild weather, from young to elderly. The hikes aren't difficult, and thousands of hikers and hunters have been throughout the trails and offtrail areas for decades.

The family received letters a day after his disappearance which prompted the search. He had a rifle with him. Left his car unlocked with keys inside at the parking lot.

I've always wanted to visit Maine. Unfortunately, it's about 22 hours away from me...

In my opinion, in many cases I think that the person is chased by an animal and in the escape the person goes deeper into the forest and gets lost...😱 it is a probability that this happened in this case...😡😡

Seems that Paul had a 22 gun with him not allowed where he was .sounds like Paul may have committed suicide his family said they received letter on the 9th that lead to their concern .sad news my prayers go out to the family

Ian, actually that's the last thing I would do at this point with very recent cases. The families are already going through a crazy ordeal and the last thing they want is YT person bugging them.. generally as a channel grows and is more known families will sometimes reach out to them, and I have been contacted by family and friends of older cases and then yes it's very beneficial. And as I continue my sar training and learn more hopefully more will reach out and yes I'll contact some in certain situations.. but it's a very fine line when the person first goes missing. Obviously I'm only trying to help, but I definitely don't want to be a nuisance to a family going through a crisis. I just always want to be as respectful as possible to the family and loved ones🙏

The sort of people who go there don't think they will ever go missing and don't care about the rescuers. It is crazy to be alone in that environment.

The park itself is not that large, the surrounding area that is privately owned is massive. Look on a map

Millinocket police chief Craig Worster’s was in a affiar with Deputy Chief Janet Thierault, who was having an affiar with, you guessed it "Paul Colucci". Paul was known for sleeping with others wife/girlfriends. Chief Craig Worster’s pulled Paul over on 09/08/2021 and "arested" him of made up charges. As soon as Paul was handcuffed they drove to a hidden area and chief Craig Worster’s killed Paul.
Thats the word on the street anyways.

I've hiked all of Baxter"s trails many times over having lived close by. No snakes, Bears possible but not likely. I would guess he went off trail and got turned around. Very rugged country if your bush wacking. One slip or fall..........

I went to EFA. He was a classmate of 79. My almni group is really concerned. He is a tough guy.. definitely not a mental thing.

There is always safety in numbers.. and I guess it depends on the area too.. some well traveled trails are obviously more safe to solo than in the backcountry.. but everyone is different and like what they like.. thank you for your feedback🙏

There is no cell coverage in the Katahdin wilderness. Very dense, very remote.
Can confirm that there is zero cell coverage in the area. Just because you get above tree line doesnt mean you will get service. I live in northwestern mountains of Maine and I need to travel 5 miles to get service.
