It really isn't a novelty act. They have a gimmick, yes but they also have three very solid albums.

I see what you're saying, but I feel like that's an incredibly unfair way of classifying them. They riff on the over the top power metal thing, with the costumes, props, silly, insane stories. But they play it with just the right combination of earnest heart, and tongue-in-cheek humour, and unlike a lot of 'gimmick' acts, Gloryhammer back it up with some impeccable songwriting and musicianship.
Unlike many, they remember that they are supposed to focus on the music too, so I feel that sets them above merely being a 'novelty'.
