  • When it comes to the competitive side of the sport, you don’t need to be the best skill wise but you definitely have to have these three qualities if you want to be able to rise to the top of your weight class!

    I got into boxing earlier in the year, and before that I've been a big long distance runner. That, I was told is your bread and butter when it comes to lasting in the ring. Coach always asks everyone did you run today? Because cardio conditioning is almost everything. I start my day with what I hate the most, a 6 mile run after drinking my black coffee. It's the only time I can do it, since I'm totally wiped after actual training.

      Nice. I just started doing 6 miles instead of 3 a day now. It's harder on the body now, but easier on my mind for some weird reason.

    Yo Coach V, true thanks for the wisdom you put out. No one addresses the mental side of boxing like you. Can see you hitting 2-300k subs this time next year, light work.

    You're definitely right about the durability. I've torn a bicep tendon and injured my rotator cuff during sparring. Injuries definitely held me back from reaching my potential.

    Unfortunately, i do not have an aggressive fighting spirit. I've done martial arts for the last 32 years. Oin tournaments a few times and been in several street scraps when I was younger. Maybe one time was I ever mad or felt like retaliation. I've tried so many things to get the eye of the tiger and can never find it. I've been boxing for the last few months now, I'm in my late 40s and in great shape for any age. But no matter how hard I get hit in sparing I never feel like giving pay back. Do i give payback yes but not out of anger or vengeance. I think that's why I always sucked at bjj as well. I'm going to stick with it anyway. Maybe if it will never come, but I do enjoy fighting anyway.

      The instinct to constantly one up an opponent to the death is not normal and for the most part has been bred out of every generation with domestication little-by-little. Everybody has to find their why but anyone can be aggressive enough to fight for their life when necessary doing it on command is so the skill set that would set you apart from the general population. I know a lot of people that have talent but the drive to win by any means is rare!

    My self evaluation... Fighter Spirit ✅️ has it been uncontrollable in the past,yes.(the anger rage and wanting to get at someone) Am I coachable? Room for improvement as long as I do my best at all times. Physically built? Far from it, but can be an achievable goal. Commit to that, and shift my energy from day job work ethic into boxing work ethic I beleive I can.
    Is it a far fetch to compete, YES. Do I even want to? We will see how I do in Coach V's weightloss program first. Im doin it to manage mental health as of now, but who knows...i get inspired easily. To me, Ima 3rd of the way there...

      As long as you're continuously moving forward the speed isn't a factor. Constantly elevating and eliminating weakness day-by-day is the most important part of the process🥊📈💪🏼

    I’m 22 years old I always wanted to do boxing when I was younger but never knew how to get into it and never pushed myself towards it but I’ve sadly got a lot of built up anger and rage that I wanna release and get help and put that towards something productive such as boxing instead having all this built up things yes therapy can help as well but this is something I definitely wanna try to get into I’ve seen a couple of your videos an loving what I see so far hope you keep posting man 💯

  • @geminijeff1
    @geminijeff1 Рік тому +1

    I don't want to say it's gone away but as I've trained that aggressive nature to retaliate has kind of simmered down in a way, it used to be I got hit and I'd think "game on motherf@$%&÷" and be like a bull, over time I had to quench that a bit and now I think "game on" but rather than being angry and blind I have to look for that opening. Anyway, figured I'd share.

      To naturally want to compete without motivation is not normal for most human beings of course, when you are confronting a situation, that is a matter of pride, or survival, then people tend to find that competitive spirit

    I got all these qualites except for my weak ass body, but I'm getting stronger Coach. last week I got knocked down for the first time ever. Felt like I took a 10 hour nap in 2 seconds and everything was spinning. But that just added fuel to the fire. The more I endure the more I want to get better. Of course, after I got knocked down, I kept on sparring. By the time i'm 21 I plan on being a boxing beast and ranked.
