    Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Nuvo Drops. I made quite a few of these in different colors and dried very hard, I can't bend them or make a mark in them. I did let them dry for two days. My house is air conditioned with no humidity, maybe that contributes to my results. Thanks again

    If you want an alternative you may want to get hold of some artist grade acrylic gel medium. It can be coloured with anything other than oil based colours. You can add glitter, food colours, inks, mica powders etc. Put into bottles with a narrow nozzle to use it. It comes in different strengths, some are very thick, some are thinner. Go into a decent art shop and you should be able to see samples.

    I've been using these in scrapbook pages for well over a year now. None of mine have flattened in that time during storage or stuck to page protectors, they also go through the post without damage. I wonder if it is very warm where you have carried out your testing? I'm in the the UK (where the drops were developed); as it is cooler and wetter here, they dry and cure more slowly, and seem more solid in the end.
    I also don't make my dots on non stick mats, but straight onto cards and layouts. The non stick surface of the mat might be preventing the solvent from evaporating effectively, on card and paper the solvent can escape from the upper and lower surfaces.

      Mine have all flattened. I let them cure for days and I'm in a fairly dry climate. I make my dots directly on my cards.

    I want to thank you so much for a real review. I see people had made comments on your honesty. Wowww it's your opinion you have a right to tell people how you feel about this product and the issues you had with it. I truly appreciate that. I would have bought this product expecting it to be like enamel dot and then been ticked off that they weren't. Now that you told me what to expect I will know ahead how they will be and use them accordingly. I'm am subbing to your channel. I really like your honesty. Thank you so much

    Thanks for taking the time to film your review! I have all of the colours and tried them out again after seeingg what you did and all performed 100X better than puffy paints and Liquid Pearls from Ranger. All other products pearl shapes ended up collapsing and the Nuvo drops all stayed in the pearl shape I originally did and also hardened quite nicely in a short period of time. The thin circular shapes did bend but so did the other two products. My take? If you want beautiful pearl shapes to decorate your cards and art projects, always choose Nuvo.

    I have used them & they do not flatten out on cards or stick to envelopes. And who is going to squish a card or project that they are on like you pushed on them in the demo? They may not work for your idea, but they are still a great product for making dots & embellishments, in my opinion.

  • @ginaspod
    @ginaspod 7 років тому +6

    A suggestion for you.....instead of making them on an acetate sheets, try using the release paper from double sided tape ie: ScorTape. They seem to keep the shape better. They are designed to "self level" so minimizing the amount of movement, no flicking the back of the paper, will give you thicker dots. I've watched so many videos on these and I've never heard a complaint about their flexibility. I prefer that they aren't hard little rocks that make mailing harder. These are just that little bit soft, as to not just chip off and be loose in the envelope. They are a unique embellishment called Nuvo Drops, not Enamel Dots.

    Hey guys, just want to clarify something for new viewers. I know they don't claim to be enamel dots this review is based on a response to the many reviews I watched before making my video. They used them as an enamel dot alternative and I'm showing how they are not, in my opinion, an alternative that I like. Please stop with the hate comments, they'll just get deleted anyway as my channel does not tolerate hate. Thanks

      I saw your video before I purchased them and wish that I had listened to you. Other people didn't seem to have a problem them so I thought you just got a bad batch. Wrong. My drops dry really hard but they flatten if I put any paper on top of them. I know they are not enamel dots but they shouldn't go flat after being cured for weeks.

  • @mooface3510
    @mooface3510 8 років тому +4

    I have been using these on my cards for weeks, and I love them! If you want to see glitter, you need to shake up the bottle first. Every time. It's just like using Wink of Stella or other ink + glitter products. This product creates amazing effects, like glittery gems or pearls, and you don't have to waste money looking for a specific size of embellishment or fighting with tweezers.
    I haven't had the same experience you have, but I put these on my card stock, I don't try to stretch or distort them or make them into characters (which were cute, btw). Mine have all ranged between the size of a tiny speck to a large pearl, and they've all hardened and stayed securely attached to the cards.
    I'm sorry you were disappointed, but I'm looking forward to trying more colors. These things are awesome! (It also brings glitter back to our craft room after it's been semi-banned because of the mess!)

      i've been wondering about them on cards... i'm a card maker :) if you stack your cards on top of each other do they stick to the card on top? do you know if they get dented or damaged in the mail? these are the questions i had... :)

    • @cayenneellis4128
      @cayenneellis4128 8 років тому

      I dunno if this is still relevant to you but i wanted to give you my experience with them on cards.
      I haven't experienced any sticking to other cards in a stack. There's a certain amount of "cling," but they're not sticky to the touch at all, and they're very easily separated. And I've had no reports from the recipients of my cards of them being anything less than perfect, but I think that might be affected by the size of your dots. I haven't done anything bigger than about a dime yet.

      Crafting with Aunt Petunia: I put them directly on cards, let them dry completely and they feel super hard. Thinking they were rock hard, I stacked the cards together on my desk and all the dots flattened. :( Hope you don't have that problem.

    I know this is an old video, but I wanted to say that I feel a bit better about being disappointed with these Nuvo drops. All the issues you had, I had as well. I bought three colors quite a while ago, and was so frustrated with them they sat on my shelf for a year. I did a craft room purge a month ago, and played around with them again just to be sure I wanted to donate them. The same problems arose again: I would make really great looking dots of all sizes, but after I let them dry 3+ days, they had not kept their domed shape, but had a slight depression in the middle. Any other shape I made cracked, and even days later, they were all still tacky. I live in Arkansas, which is absurdly humid year round - I'm thinking my climate may just not be right for this product to work well. It's such a shame, because the colors are gorgeous, and I've seen so many cool things done using them!

    • @heatherkosinski6126
      @heatherkosinski6126 7 років тому

      I only just came across this video. And I ordered several colors. And I live in Florida. If you consider Arkansas absurdly humid, I am afraid to see how these drops behave in *my* climate, lol! But I am glad I saw this video, because at least I'll have a clue of the potential issues. Hopefully they'll still work for me well enough to get good use out of them.

  • @crimejunkie1
    @crimejunkie1 7 років тому +5

    It's because of the long drying time in the humidity they are collapsing and cracking, put them in the fridge as soon as possible and they should be ok.

    Interesting....I have quite a few of the Nuvo Drops....especially the Jewel Drops which are transluscent and beautiful! I have never had any of the difficulties you've described...so I'm wondering if it could have something to do with the conditions or the weather. I also have quite a few of the Viva Pearl Pens and I prefer the Nuvo Drops. I will agree that they don't get as rock hard as the others, but I find this means they tend to mail better than ones that are brittle.

    Thanks for your review. I disagree with those who say you are trashing a product. I thought you gave it an accurate review of your experience with the product. The problem with a product like Nuvo Crystal Drops is that they do not cure completely and therefore do not harden. As the polymers dry as the solvents evaporate (whether water or chemical solvent), the drops form a skim on top thereby precluding the product from completely drying. The fact that they stretch is not a surprise to me. They are made from inferior polymers, and these polymers do not require heat or Infrared or Ultraviolet rays to cure them all the way through. The enamel dots we purchase for projects have been completely cured in one of the aforementioned fashions. I think Nuvo Crystals need some improvement. I have heard your exact evaluation from several friends of mine. Glad I have not purchased them. Best of luck with all your projects, and thank you for your honesty!

    • @lizzystitch4842

      It all comes down to chemicals, Serena. You did a good service to others of us in highlighting the problems. Now, some people say they have no problems with it. Variables happen, especially from batch to batch in polymer manufacturing. Some may have bottles of product that cure better than others. Glad to be of a little help. Best wishes!

    I have only purchased the gloss and actually like that they do not dry rock hard. As a test, I placed the drops on cards and ran them through my Big Shot which flattened them. Minutes later, they regained their original puffiness. I mail a lot of cards, so this has been a good side of the drops. I love the ghosts and pumpkins you made. Will try my hand at them and hopefully they will not crack. Thank you for sharing!

    I bought a set last year and I'm ready to buy more. I did not have the problems that Serena had. I put my drops on page protectors or backings from adhesive sheets and I do not remove them until I am ready to use them. I have had dots that have been stored on these sheets and they are still easily removed. The older dots are very hard to dent (unlike the two-day old dots in this video). The review came across as very negative. Didn't you like anything about Nuvo?

    I never comment however I felt compelled. I have watched a lot of video's on this product and not ONE person went into detail like you. I appreciate it so much because I had every color in my cart and have since deleted the cart...lol I would rather spend my money on something more reliable. In response to another person saying who would squish a card like you did to the dots in your demo.....hello, the US postal service??!! It runs through a sorting machine....they will squish and probably fall off a card. Thanks but no thanks. And if I got up in the morning and found that disappointment on my table...I'd be annoyed too! Thanks for sharing the honest side.

      After the post office ran several of my cards through machines and caused pearls and gems to fall off in the envelope, I started using a small piece of bubble wrap in front of any of those kinds of details. My cards have arrived safely since, and the postage price stayed the same!

    • @michellesullivan3540
      @michellesullivan3540 8 років тому +1

      +Moo Face I pay the extra postage for " hand cancel", no machine just because of being a handmade card. Luckily I can hand deliver most of them.

    • @lizzystitch4842
      @lizzystitch4842 8 років тому

      I used to use bubble wrap and similar materials to pad embellishments on my cards. Then, somewhere online, I read that if you just slip a piece of thin cardstock, the size of your card, into the envelope, they will be even better protected and can run through the postal machines quite easily. Works like a charm! I just picked up some Recollectiions 65 lb. white cardstock at Michaels, very economical, and slip it into the envelope. Maybe give it a try?

    • @michellesullivan3540
      @michellesullivan3540 8 років тому

      +Elizabeth Hansen oh thanks for that info! I'll definitely try as postage can get expensive!

    • @lizzystitch4842
      @lizzystitch4842 8 років тому

      You're welcome! It was a gamechanger for me and my cards. However, it may add a slight bit more weight to the card, so watch out for that. All of mine have gone through the mail without extra postage costs both for me and for the recipient, whereas some of my cards sent with bubble wrap or thin foam liners did not. I think sometimes it depends on how much leeway certain post offices allow for these things. Best of luck!

    I have the same issues with these as well. They go flat with just another card sitting on top of them. They will sure be flat if sending through the mail. Bromero Cards Ricky B Bromero Cards Ricky B hi 👋🏻 no I haven't found an alternative and to be honest I Haven't used these since this review it's a lot faster for me to grab my enamel dots when I'm working on a project. It clearing has something to do with climate and if you live in a humid area which I guess is why I had these results. Thanks for watching!! I hope you find a way to make them work for you.

    • @cardsbybel4395
      @cardsbybel4395 6 років тому +1

      Bromero Cards Ricky B I experience a similar issue with the cards I made in advance for Christmas. I used the clear nuvo crystal drops that dries clear. I made the dots on a non stick mat and was able to make great round drops. I left it to dry overnight, then glued them on my cards. Everything went well. I piled my cards and organized them inside a cabinet. I noticed the cards where I placed the nuvo drops on the top layer got stuck with the paper on top of it. All of them. The dots flattened and lost their visual appeal. I had to carefully remove each one without significantly damaging the paper. I had to let go some of the cards. Those where I placed the nuvo drops on the recessed layer somehow were not flattened because the padded top layer prevented it from contacting the paper on top of it. I still use the nuvo clear drops since I bought two grande bottles - but for layered cards where i place the drops on the bottom layer. But I will not buy another. I now use clear enamel drops that I buy online for my one layer cards. Thank you @serenabeecreative for giving an objective review.

    I was going to make a comment about the humidity factor as well. To me, these are the same as Liquid Pearls and you won't get the Hershey's Kiss look when you know how to apply them. Plus, there's various sizes of enamel dots out there and colors. I think this is a case of the wheel being reinvented. I didn't even kick around picking up this product because of the Liquid Pearls and enamel dots. Thank you for the honest review!

    I wonder if room temperature being too warm, too cold, or humid affects the way they dry. In my opinion, they blow Liquid Pearls out of the water. They aren't supposed to be enamel dots but are supposed to resemble enamel dots, which they do. Send them to me. Haha! :)

    I brought a set of these and haven't tinkered with them for awhile. After watching your video I was like meh they're okay for what I need them to do. I do, however, like the fact I can make my own now without having to buy them from craft stores etc. I, also like the fact that I can script with them, make swirl and customizable dots. Given this, I'll continue using them for now. I appreciate your honesty and insight and look forward to watching more YT video. TCFN. :0)

    Serena, Thank you for such an honest review. I bought these a couple of weeks ago but have not used them, thats why I'm checking out uses on youtube .I guess its use will depend on how one wants to use this. Seems like it would be OK for cards but as a mixed media artist I see that I would have to treat this like acrylic skins and adhere them with an adhesive. Strange the way your larger items cracked like your ghost & pumpkin. I really thought they looked cute too, my grandkids would love this stuff. Don't know if or when you will see this but I wonder with more time if they dried harder ever? Thanks again.

    I would say, that with anything your results will differ depending on your climate. I live in a temperate climate, very cold and dry in winter. Warm to hot, and sometimes humid, in the summer. The results for all of my products, whether they are Nuvo, Liquid Pearls, glitter drops, etc are always different depending on the time of year and the current weather conditions. It's the very same with texture pastes and even painting mediums. Currently, because it's warm and dry out, my Nuvo jewel and crystal drops, Liquid Pearls, and glitter drops are hard as rocks and not soft at all. (was playing with them yesterday) Spring and fall they are a little softer when completely dry.

    I love them. I only paid 1.79 each at Joanns on-line .. Mine didn't crack .. I store my albums upright because I use a lot of texture and Flair which would damage the page protectors too..

    If you dent the dots, then wait a little while, they do regain their domed shape. Also, live in an extremely humid environment. (Hawaii0 and if you just let them sit overnight, they will dry quite nicely, imho.

    Luckily I have only bought one color yet, but it would be interesting to experiment with these to see if there are ways to get them to harden completely. Hope you'll do some follow-up videos. Also, did you contact the manufacturer and ask if there are ways to make them solid? They might have some tips too.

    Hmm I like your honest rewiev, I have bought the Crystal Drops in Pale gold. But dont have any problems with this one, it dry in 20-40min. I get super perfect round dots, but you gotta work a lot with them if you want to design flowers or something else. I only use it on my mason jars, because I loved those henna inspired jars.

    You did a grrrreat job with this video and I most certainly appreciate that. I do like that they dry kinda softer, kinda easier maybe to manipulate. The fact that the glitter is sparse, I don't like that for the $ they cost you expect the glitter to be full on in there. Thank you so very much for this one, I would prefer enamel dots. :) Thanks Serena. :)

    Mine have dried super hard, ROCK HARD! I don't know where you live, if humidity has anything to do with it, maybe you played with them before they were completely hare and that compromised their integrity. I think you should give them another try. Don't touch them for a complete week. Tupelo Designs $2.49 - $2.99 & free shipping. I do think others need to give them a fair try.

      I wish mine dried like yours. They felt super hard to the touch but with just a few papers stacked on them, they flattened. I live in a fairly dry climate. I made a little swatch chart when I first got them so the dots had cured for weeks. I had the swatch chart out on my desk with papers piled on them and they all went flat!

    I was at a show last week where they were demoing the Nuvo embellishment mousse. They had these there. i didn't buy these because I have crystal lacquer and tons of glitter glue. I really appreciate your review. I can't tell you how many times I have purchased a product only to find it didn't work for what I wanted. When you are buying at a show you can hardly return them. For me a big thank you. By the way what are the enamel dots you are referring to? Is it a liquid like crystal lacquer or are they the ones you purchase ready made on a card? Thanks so much!

  • @megandimattia4819

    Maybe it depends where you lie and tings like humidity levels because mine harden perfectly, and honestly if showed you an enamel dot next to one I made with Nuvo you would not be able to tell the difference. I tried this, in fact, on some scrappy friends, they could not pick the real enamel dot versus the Nuvo one. I tried to damage one after it was set...tried poking it with my nail, a pin, bending it...nothing. So I think your mileage
    may vary in this case.

      It's not just you Serena. I have read other reviews about how they seem to crack on larger dots/shapes. AND they are not usually hard. Maybe the weather does have something to do with it but don't think it's worth my money to find out. Thanks again, Serena!

    I am only 4min into your video but I am sooo glad I came across it I was about to buy a whole bunch of these but as I can see so far they are basically a coloured Craft/School glue (oh and as you described it, a dried up paint hehehe) and not what I was hoping to get. Thank-you for your review you saved me a bunch of money and waste. Now that it has been a while do you have a recommendation for something that holds it's shape, I want to make pearl drops to make my own like bling swirls that peel off in one piece, sorry I am not sure what they are called, I hope I am making sense). Firstly, I must apologise; it's ages since I caught up with your channel. No real excuse except "life"? Anyhooo, to your subject here.
    I knooow that you did this soooo long ago, you will be totally "over it"!😤 But ~ I still want to say thank you!! Just like you did, I have been watching review videos, as I ordered 6 in a sale. The reason I looked for the reviews is precisely because they haven't turned out as I was expecting. They are definitely squishy, not hard at all, they do stick to one another ✔✔✔✔and also, for me, I find the more I put down (to heighten dome), the flatter they become. (That'll be the self leveling, clues are there so I'm an eejit, lol).
    It's refreshing to see someone who IS HONEST about these things. We all have budgets (mine is tiny) & we want to know that we are spending wisely. You are Ace for doing this and I THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! I absolutely adore your ghosts and pumpkins btw. C👌💯%!⚪🦋🐾
