Hi, wonderful and useful video..I just want to know what is the best way to rinse AC. I bought xinyou AC. Though I rinsed it more than 10 times in fresh water it keeps releasing black particles and water continue to stay black. Is it normal. I am using Top filter. I am worried because I use white sand as substrate. Some suggestions and ideas would be really helpful
I think the carbon you bought is not of good quality, if after two three washes the water in which it is submerged is still black then these are not activated ones.. or if you are adding to filter and water is only faded black then it's OK...I have dropped a link in description to buy you can buy that brand.. :)

Water change is the best option if you see cloudy water due to driftwood tannins. As there deplet out after a while. Activated carbon can absorb nutrients as well which are essential for aquarium plants.
Interesting video but some things are, from my research, incorrect. AC won't remove anything from the nitrogen cycle so water changes are still required, it also won't remove all trace elements from a tank which is important in a planted tank as these are needed by the plants. I would only use AC for removing tannins from my tank if excessive tannins were leaching from my bogwood. Make sure it is from a recently added bogwood and not from decaying plant and animal matter. If your tank is properly balanced then you shouldn't need AC and if you've got odour of discolouration problems test regularly and water changes are essential!

If your fish and aquarium is large you need bigger filter. I recommend canister filter with flow of 5 times or 10 times the capacity of the tank. Bigger filter are expensive and they also comes with inbuilt UV and Heater.
Some aquarist and product seller tell to replace the carbon bag after few months. But I am using the same bag for a year now, I just wash them thoroughly and then use again.

AC is a total waste of money, sure you may absorb some odor causing compounds, but an odorous tank is always a sign you've got a bigger problem. AC is an incredible media in that it absorbs almost everything, good and bad, and when you dispose or rinse or attempt to reactivate it you've tossed away all the good bacteria that is actually keeping a healthy biology in the tank. If you're tank stinks, change your water (which you should be doing anyways) and do some water tests. You've probably got high levels of unwanted chemicals, don't have enough oxygen in the water, or have lousy filter media All you need for a healthy tank is high quality filter floss (sponge) and an established biological population (biofilter). Sponge removes the poop and uneaten food (which decomposes / smells bad) and the biofilter (organisms growing on rocks/plastic balls/or whatever inside your filter/sump) removes the chemicals (nitrates, ammonia, etc that kills your fish). Simply wash out your sponge periodically, do a 1/4 tank water change every week or so, and you'll never have to waste money on activated carbon or any other useless media. Also plant some REAL plants, they do that same thing in your tank they do for the air up here.
@stefan What you have written elaborately is 100 percent correct. Until and unless you have messed up with the water big time by adding lot of medicines etc in the main tank, activated carbon and other chemical media is actually not needed at all. The sponge n bio media can keep the water crystal clear of course partial periodic water changes is the key to maintaining a good and healthy aquarium. If you have odour coming from the aquarium you have a much bigger problem than it meets the eye.
You haven't washed the activated carbon bag wash it properly until it stops giving out black stains. And remove the water in the aquarium that is already black.
I checked Cladophora very sponge like plant. I established this tank for betta breeding so can you suggest me any plant with floating leaves I tried lotus plant but they are not opening leaves atall. Floating leaves could help to keep intact the bubble nest for betta fish spawning.
Go for riccia - bettas should like it. I have recently put ceratophyllum in my aquarium - it looks good and very simple to keep. No, seriously, your aquarium looks very empty
Hi seems like you have good knowledge about aquatic plants... I am also planing for keeping tetras so suggest plants for them too. Also Discus sometime in future in big planted tanks but don't know whether they can be kept in planted aquariums or not and do all of these plant need co2 diffuser or normal plant nutrient solution is enough. CO2 injection is harmful for some fishes..
Hi Sinto, I have some experience, but I'm not a plant guru. Regarding tetras, I have not personally kept them, but that plants I've mentioned, should be fine. Discus is quite exotic for me and don't have any knowledge about this fish. I'd check whether they have a habit to pull out rooted plants and/or eat plants if they are angry. Now reagrding CO2 and nutrients injections. Sir, I don't use any of them. It's big topic, but I believe that in running aquarium you do not meddle too much. Of course, you feed your fishes, add water and pull out plants that grow too crazy. Placing carbon sticks just like it will do very little work. Use it in filter for better results. Not recommended too much for planted aquariums.

I think we cannot make activated carbon at home easily. Buy online or from pet store is easiest alternative.

Yes that is what I suggested in the video. If you put directly in aquarium it will suck all substrate and water nutrients.
