My great uncle turned down the opportunity to turn pro in the 70’s just as it all took off, he played Higgins amongst others a good few times. He always taught me to stay still for about 5 seconds after the shot.... Higgins doesn’t even wait til the cue ball is struck before moving his head up!
He knew only too well that the only movement that mattered was the cue tip on the cueball! Some of his body action will be to add a perfect dimension of spin, side, check-side, stun, swerve or even jump to it.
That long red at 1.10 is one of the best shots you will ever see. Considering he played at least 5 shots just as great in the same frame. But it was also the pressure he was under to make those pots, if he missed he would have lost the match and the 1982 world title in the final against reardon.

Snooker wouldn't be where it is today without Alex, he lived and breathed the game, but the people at top who ran it didn't like the fact that he was bigger than the game, yes he had his demons, don't we all, but when he needed help, those at the top turned their backs, true genius, RIP
My great uncle turned down the opportunity to turn pro in the 70’s just as it all took off, he played Higgins amongst others a good few times. He always taught me to stay still for about 5 seconds after the shot.... Higgins doesn’t even wait til the cue ball is struck before moving his head up!
was tour uncle called cliff thorburn the grinder.
No one playing like him anymore…I miss him so so much ….He’s the one and only….
Worlds number 1..forever ..🏆🥇
Still gives me goosebumps watching the hurricane...
Good video. No bs and decent soundtrack.
Thanks :)
Amazing how he produced such cue power from such a short backswing. His timing must have been spot on when playing at his best...
Best Higgins
So different to the players now... They stay super still on the shot ,, he moves so much. Amazing to watch this
He knew only too well that the only movement that mattered was the cue tip on the cueball! Some of his body action will be to add a perfect dimension of spin, side, check-side, stun, swerve or even jump to it.
Missing the snooker on the blue against Thorburn, great compilation regardless
To think how he'd play on today's tables
That long red at 1.10 is one of the best shots you will ever see. Considering he played at least 5 shots just as great in the same frame. But it was also the pressure he was under to make those pots, if he missed he would have lost the match and the 1982 world title in the final against reardon.
