It all depends on the family dynamic. When you take losers and go back to evaluate their situation at home, you can almost always see where things went wrong, and the parents are always part of that equation in one way or another.

Went to college, earned my B.A. in Criminal Justice and my original plan was to be a police officer. After learning about all the different aspects of police work I decided to become a Deputy Probation Officer. I don’t put up with half the crap that police officers deal with and get to work m-f 8-4 with weekends, evenings and holidays off with the family.

The two are related. People aren't always BORN with a mental illness, they can develop from the environment. You can smoke meth until you develop schizophrenia and you can be neglected/abused by your parents and develop antisocial behaviors.

I was almost ready to feel compassionate towards him because of his 'mental health issues' until mother said 'my boys suffer mental health issues'. I suspect that the issues are not true mental health and more likely due to a lack of morals and ethics.
That isn't fair to say at all. Mental health issues are very commonly hereditary. It's entirely believable that both her sons are legitimately mentally unwell through no fault of hers.
I have 3 siblings and we all suffer from depression passed down from my mother's side. Now my youngest son (have 2) is diagnosed with depression and other mental health problems. Studies have shown that it can be passed on within a family.

No one..taxpayers..aren't willing to pay for another jail..so they have to let them go.
It's much, much more expensive to incarcerate people for long periods for minor crimes, so what's the answer? I dunno.

It's not the officers... it's the Judges that let them roam.
Contrary to popular belief, claiming to be mentally ill will not get you out of criminal charges. Even if you are actually mentally ill, and found incompetent to stand trial. You will be remanded to a psychiatric facility by court order until you are deemed competent to stand trial, and then you will stand trial.
The actual problem is simply that jails and prisons are overcrowded. So to put it in simple terms. It’s like if the jail can only house 10 people, and they already got 3 murderers, 2 rapists, 2 armed robbers, 2 burglars, a guy who stabbed someone, and 3 drugs dealers. Then this guy get arrested, and the judge has to choose who to let go because the jail is already over capacity and if they dont let someone out. they run the risk of violating both the prisoners human and civil rights. Which can lead to cases being overturned and dismissed, and then all of them get back out on the street.
So I guess my question to you is, who would you let out on bond? The murders? The rapists? The burglars? The armed robbers? The drug dealers? Or the one guy that wants to act like a child and can reasonable be considered less of a threat to society than the others? And no keeping them all locked up forever is not an option, because that would require the jail to be expanded. which will cost the tax payers more money. Which everyone would bitch and moan about and say is “theft”….
So basically you can’t have your cake and eat it too. You can’t both simultaneously continuously expand or build new prisons to lock everyone up in, while also refusing to pay a dime for it.

I recently got an ambulance bill for my family member.
A simple 15 mile ride with no medical treatment was $1150.
