      Thanks! :) I aim for three a week. Sometimes I don't manage to pull it off for whatever the reason and we have three, and sometimes I've more time free from my day job, and then we get 4. Once there was 5, but it also included a compilation video, which are easier to pull off. :)

    Another excellent video, Janosik, buddy boy! My favorites this time were; Twins and its extremely creative and fluid animations, and the wall of screeches that made up the soundscape of Violent Vengeance: The Universe Hero.

      Ha ha ha :) Yeah the VV may have not been on the SF2 or MK level, but it was decent for a completely unknown game. :)
      Also, thank you!

    Violent Vengence: kinda game I thought I played as a kid. KID! then I realized I was 20yrs old when I played this, not 10yrs old like i'm thinking. i'm old......so old.......
    awesome video !!! love the obscure DOS throwbacks!

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  8 місяців тому

      "Old" is very subjective. Time not only is an imaginary construct created by us based on the time the Earth revolves around the Sun, and its own orbit, but also if you feel good and comfortable in where and how you are, you're not old. I mean, think of people in your age 50 years ago. Things changes, and they *were* old. xD

    Tubular Worlds looks like it really should be a vertically-scrolling shooter rather than a horizontally-scrolling one.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  8 місяців тому

      I can't argue because I prefer vertical scrolling shooters to horizontal ones anyway. xD

    Oops. You forgot to outline what year Ultrabots (also Xenobots) was first released in. Its 1993.
    BTW, it was nice to learn about the very complex 1991 game, Twilight: 2000, with its mix of isometric TBS mode & first-person, real-time vehicular combat/driving.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  8 місяців тому

      Thanks! Also, Twilight 2000 was sooooo broken, but sooooo good in the same time. It's one of those games that you wanted to get into but it kept pushing you back. So you would come back some months later, to try again, and it would push you again. And the dance would repeat itself for a few years, until you eventually forgot about it. xD

  • @janneaalto3956
    @janneaalto3956 8 місяців тому +1

    I really wanted to like Twilight 2000, but it brought back too many 80's nightmares of nuclear war that I'd at the time only recently forgotten.
    Especially since the background story of how the world slipped inexorably into the apocalypse had so many real-world parallel events for it to be a relaxing reading.

    Captain's log: supplemental. More obscure games have been uncovered on the alien planet DOS. The away team has returned with a full report. Some of these games warrant further inspection and might provide hours of gaming fun.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames

      Some however proved to be rather disappointing, and regardless of how many attempts of contact we've made, they refused to reply. The unwillingness to communicate can be attributed to many reasons, neither of which we've learned. Paradoxically, because of the lack of communication. We've decided to abandon them as they were, and allow them to carry on with their lives uninterrupted. Our adventure carries on, and we shall continue on our voyage of learning, scientific discovery, and exploration as intended. Picard out.

      @@TeaAndFloppyDisks Ah, the elusive Riker maneuver. Not many heard of it, even less know what it is, and only one or two can perform it. It requires a very elaborate setup, appropriate attire, and a mid-length hard but well kept beard. xD

    Awesome games, I remember buying Tunnel B1 on the Playstation. Me and my best mate put halfs into buying the PS1 when it released. The only games I really liked on there was the Doom games, Tomb Raider, Alien Trilogy, Twisted Metal 1 and 2 and Tenchu. Tunnel B1 made me have serious buyer's remorse lol.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  8 місяців тому +1

      What a fun idea it was, buying a Playstation in half. Did it move houses or did one of you kept it? But if it did move, there's 7 days in a week, how did you split it? There's so many questions and so little answers. xD

    • @mantovannni
      @mantovannni 8 місяців тому

      @@OldAndNewVideoGames Haha we used to take it around to different friends houses. We rarely played at mine or my best mates, we were sort of like mobile entertainment dealers carting whatever we had to different places so people could play on the games with us. We once went to this guy we knew who had a drinking problem, he went out and was supposed to be back but didn't return for ages, we're just playing games at his place and two Jehovah's witnesses came around who were Americans, we ended up taking turns playing streets of Rage on that day lol.

You know, stuff like "Streets of Rage is a great beat'em up", or "Streets of Rage II is better than I", or even "We once went to this guy we knew who had a drinking problem, he went out and was supposed to be back but didn't return for ages, we're just playing games at his place and two Jehovah's witnesses came around who were Americans, we ended up taking turns playing streets of Rage on that day lol." Hi! Tunneler is new to me. The concept is interesting? It sounds like there’s nothing, nothing, nothi… ACTION! DRAMA! One of you’s dead?
    Tunnel B1 was really impressive in it’s day & still is but yeh, it was one you had to get the hang of & not just jump in to.
    Tubular Worlds has a story out of tradition but yeh, the story could have been “you go shoot stuff now!” & it would have been the same game. I feel like devs back then felt they had to make shmups arcade hard, forgetting that arcade games are hard to make you keep stuffing coins in to the machine (well coins back then anyway) & home system shooters didn’t need to be that hard.
    Twilight: 2000? No sparkly vanpires? No? Oh thank goodness, carry on. 😄 Twilight: 2000 absolutely is a gem & in it’s day the 3D vehicle sections were super impressive, even if they don’t look it now but to be honest the rest of it failed to keep my attention. There actually is such a thing as too much going on, for me anyway.
    Sideways Arkanoid feels like a gimmick but from what you’ve said & shown it’s got more 2 it than that? Especially 2 player?
    Twins is not based on the cheesy Arnold Schwarzenegger/Danny DeVito movie? Oh thank goodness! I don’t know it but I understand the formula. Sounds interesting?
    I don’t know Urban? Looks like the kind of shareware puzzler I would have played back then, & now… & in the intervening time for that matter.
    Urthwurm looks & sounds like something you’d load up to take a quick look at & you look up at the clock to realise you’ve been ”taking a quick look” for over an hour?
    We’re really in to the weeds with some of these & yet I’m not seeing a single stinker? I see some that are not for me but that’s a very different thing. What an interesting list, thanks!

      You've no idea how hard it was to play Tunneler alone with each hand playing as one of two tanks. xD It's a two player game, and there's no other way of showing it off, and I'm here all alone. xD
      The controls in Tunnel B1 are really annoying. Really. But it's a good game if you manage to get over them.
      Oh, Tubular Worlds is so punishing I honestly just can't even. I know, normal people don't talk like that, and I don't either. But the difficulty just calls for it. ;)
      Twilight: 2000 is a game I numerous times bounced off of. I loved the idea and the character creator, but the game... Oh man... Despite its size and depth, it was "something". xD
      Twinblok is great either way. You'll love it! Honestly!
      Thank you! :) These Obscure DOS videos may not be as regular as they used to. Though I did say that would be the case after the main line series were done, but they'll release from time to time, and hopefully, the games would be as interesting as in this one.

    I loved tubular worlds when I first came across it but it's extremely imbalanced. Playing with the mouse is much easier than playing with the keyboard. It also allows for 2P one player using the keyboard and one the mouse.
    Another extremely annoying part: Pressing ESC will quit INSTANTLY. No questions asked.
    That said, it has the most beautiful/atmospheric presentation I've seen on an early shmup.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  8 місяців тому +1

      Yep, no game is perfect, but the presentation there is truly stunning. :)
