Just listened to the Pete Best version. My God they needed Ringo!
Pete Best was trying to change the tempo in the bridge to straight-eight, then change it back to the shuffle beat, but he couldn't really do it.
@hedgefundshyster..3241 Too stiff!
i identify this as the first recording of the track, in fact the first time when Ringo sat in to record with John, Paul, and George that'd formed the nucleus of what is and ever was the ultimate rock band of them all, 50 years to be exact on the date of 5th October 1962 to this day
I'm so use to hearing Andy's cymbal crash after the harmonica solo. This version is a bit laid back, but I enjoy it just the same. Thanks for sharing
That's Ringo for you, very light touch, never wanted to get in the way of the song.
@wildbilltexas The Ringo version can be found on the "Past Masters" CD. The Andy White can be found on the version 1 copy of "Introducing the Beatles" on the Vee-Jay label.
I think I read in "The Beatles' Recording Sessions" that the Ringo version, while cut second, was released first, but later replaced by the Andy White version because the finished master of the Ringo take had been "accidentally" tossed out. I'm not sure if they ever found the tape.
Thanks for sharing.
One of Paul's bass strings is slightly sharp!
Mike G Sorry, but I didn't want to suffer alone! LOL
Its suppose to be sharp
@superfan5598 - Paul: "I meant to do it that way!"
Canada issued the "Ringo on drums" version in 1962 on Capitol Of Canada Records. US Capitol, meanwhile rejected it at the time and Vee Jay Records wound up with the "Andy White" master. Dave Dexter Jr. was the stubborn Capitol executive who didn't like British pop acts, and particularly didn't care for John's harmonica playing. Capitol finally issued "Love Me Do" in March, 1965 (the "Andy White" version) on the compilation album "The Early Beatles".
agreed - the mix with Andy White is also better. They are obviously trying to re-capture the Andy White version and it sounds a little forced. The Andy White version is more genuine from a performance standpoint because it was the first "real" recording session.
Their 4th chart topper for 1 week ending May 30, 1964.
She DO it good!!
50 YEARS :)
This Ringo version is definitely more folky, the more familiar Andy White rendition is definitely more rocky.
Ringo is a better drummer than Andy white
Ringo was fine. Paul needed to tune up his bass guitar.
@marksoutof10 Thats true.
that's a maxi single, spencer!!! love me do by the beatles on 12" 45 RPM. a maxi single!!!
its not a fake - its an actual Japanese pressing with OBI. I own one too.
Thank god for Andy White.
LOVE THE JEWS by APOLOGETIX a great parody of that song
...and , on the 1982 reissue " LMD " 7" , put the Andy White/Tollie/" Please Please Me " album version ! Realizing his , they put out a 12-inch single , with the '62/Ringo version as an extra cut on the B-side .
I like the Ringo/'62 version better myself , but I will grant that , if you'e not listening closely , they can be hard to tell apart !
The '62 vesion has a rougher , more percussive feel .
Is WCPR really right about the first-pressing Vee-Jay LP ?
Both Ringo and Andy White were very good drummer.
The recording with Andy White has a little more drive.
This is the " PPM "/Tollie version , WABC...
...I can't access sound right now , WABC , but I know that is the 12" single from the U. K. from 1962 , a 20th-anniversary reissue of " LMD " .
Ironically , if you are playing the A-side , you are in fact playing the Andy White version , the American Tolklie single issue that American radio-listeners are familiar with - UK EMI/Parlophone messed up at that time and , despite saying that they would reissue the Ringo on drums , 1962 single take , version , messed up on the standard 7"...
One song on the entier side?
This is the version where Paul had a cold what a let down
Paul was a bit nervous about singing that Love me do when John starts his harmonica riff. John had sung it, or at least, "Love me," before switching to harmonica. George Martin said that wouldn't work, and that someone else would have to sing, "Love me do." Enter Paul.
So this is a reissue with a "retro" Red parlophone label?
@marksoutof10 Its A song by the beatles! HOW DARE YOU SAY ITS A WASTE OF VINYL!!!!!!!!
The Andy White version is definitely better, not just because of the strings, its just a better mix in general, although it makes me a little bit sad that ringo doesn't play the drums on that one
Ringo played drums on the please please me album
Oh well, Ringo got to play drums on every subsequent Beatles album! (Yadayada Back in the USSR, whatever. You know what I mean.) Seems like he won in the end to me :)
why does it sound like a microphone placed next to a speaker
This sounds like the past masters album
read liner notes for rarities amercican lp
I have the cd
should get the vinyl
does this have both versions of love me do and please please me?
Just listened to all three. Best wasn't. I liked White's version better than Ringo's. But isn't it great to have both?
Actually, that version has a session drummer. His name was Andy White Ringo never played on the version that you’re listening to. George Martin didn’t like Ringo either.
Incorrect
@@HankFinkle11 Ringo played drums on the love me do single that was released in 1962 on parlophone
Best as I can tell, Ringo is purposely a bit behind the beat compared to Andy White. I like Ringo’s approach better.
The bass sounds bloody awful. It’s not in tune, for one thing.
mastering sounds way off on this pressing
Boring drum beat
