Scotch snobs love to hate on Macallan, but if it were priced reasonably it would be a good bottle (this double cask in particular). I like the tastes and the fact that that they don’t add color (even if they chill-filter it and water it down a bit too much). Among other 12 year olds on the shelf though, priced so much lower, it’s tough to justify buying it.
@@yelloweskimoeyes I'm in the states and I got glasses from Amazon that are very similar to the glass Horst uses. Search for "Stölzle Lausitz Whiskey Tasting glasses"
In this case I don’t agree with Horst. I find this whisky watery and bland, clearly overpriced. I don’t know why Macallan insists in low ABV whiskies, perhaps to maximize profits and to take advantage from people that chase the name Macallan. Believe it or not I find this and other Macallans in Sparr supermarkets wich tells a lot about what the brand became into. I totally skip Macallan. Give me a Glenallachie 12 or Tamdhu or Arran. About the sherry supply is a fact that there is a gap between the consumption of the wine itself and the demand for whiskies. Most sherry casks are made from American oak and are seasoned for a couple of months with a low quality sherry that cannot be bottled and is discharged to produce vinegar or brandy, as doesn’t meet the traditional standards of sherry wine that is bottled. That’s why more and more sherried single malts tend to taste almost the same. People should try other types of maturation, for example Port or Madeira.
@@ADSCP Look that's how I respond to the same pretentious copy/paste comment that comes from people like you. I bet you never tasted any good Macallan.
I had the maccalan 15 yo and 12 yo, didnt like them both, overated overpriced. dronach 12 /tomatin 18/ deanston much better, by far. maccalan no tnx for me

@@Brad-ic4bp so those “snobs” are right…
Just got a bottle for $79 USD on sale last week. Always have a bottle of Macallan 12 in the stash. Delicious!

Where can I find a whisky glass like that?
Hopefully nowhere 😅 This glass was specially designed by Horst Lüning himself and is only available in our online shop.
@@Whiskycom Ahh bummer. Probably can't get one in the US. Looks like the perfect whisky glass!

This bottle is 43% abv
No, our bottling has 40% ABV. But there is also a Macallan Double Cask with 43%, but this is the US release
Double Mouth Wash.
Macallan 12 is a classic example of "Smells absolutely delicious and tastes absolutely mediocre"
Yeah, I would agree. The lack of charachter is the charachter of Macallan. Very comparable to many japanese variants of the same characterlessness.
@paulikangas9813 for sure
Not true for 12 Sherry cask for sure.
@@Iskhartakh the sherry cask is decidedly better but I think still over performs on the nose
@@JPeakman96 Agree. I prefer 18 Sherry cask but i don't think the price is fair.
