No wonder he went into Tartarus to live alone.
hades is the god/extraterestrials that passed people into the world of the dead, what is that in modern terms? i think a priest or a nurse person that helps people transition into what we call death he seems like a rather nice dude.
@@Marcustheseer nah Hades is the king of the Greek underworld, Tartarus, kinda like King Yemma in Dragon Ball.
The personification of Death in Greek mythology is Thanatos. He's similar to the modern Grim Reaper, who appears to before the dead to take their soul to the underworld.
Then we have Charon, the ferryman who brings the souls across the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. If you are into astronomy, you may also know Charon as the reason why Pluto is no longer a planet.
Finally we have Hermes, the luxury goods manufaturer. As the messenger god for Ancient Greeks, Hermes is also naturally associated with guiding souls to the underworld, because polytheistic religion usually can't just have only one guy does only one thing.
@@Kriophoros so basicly its all about souls leading other souls to the afterlife, stil sounds the same as what our modern day priests do.
@@Marcustheseer yeah sorry for going on tangent, cuz I just love to talk about Greek mythology.
What's I'm trying to say is soul guiding is not Hades's job description. He's more like Lucifer but without the evil connotation, since ancient Greeks believed all dead people went to the underworld (unless you happened to know the big Z, aka big daddy Zeus).
Also these other guys are not evil either. They're indifferent to humans, to be exact, cuz they're gods.

If you've heard of Medusa, well, just imagine three of her. While some stories claim that Medusa was born with a very beautiful form and later cursed with a head of snakes, others say she and her sisters have always been that horrendous. In fact, the name Gorgon is derived from a word that means “dreadful.” Their parents, ancient sea gods Phorcys and Ceto, notoriously gave birth to grotesque creatures. While only Medusa’s monstrous hair could turn humans into stone, all three of them have terrifying venomous snakes on their heads, a hideous face, and some horrendously large teeth.
XD
Those were late stories created by a roman author. In the original greek myth she was indeed very wise.
I really don't understand why the poet Ovid didn't like her and wrote that story and the other one where she transform the weaver Arachne into a spider.
And the story obout the Trojan War, especially the part about WHAT caused it, was it created by romans too?
Don't try to defend what's undefendable : all the greek pantheon is full of assholes and rapist who didn't care at all about the consequences of their actions.

I much prefer the version where Medusa's "curse" was a gift from Athena so no man could ever violate her again, not even a god. Also, the one where she was a mother to blind orphans.
Edit: Reading these comments has me dead. The words "prefer" and "version" were very deliberately used. As a story, I prefer the anti-rape-gift narrative, I'm not refuting the other versions.

oh i havent heard that one
See, that one’s still kinda messed up. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, she couldn’t think of a better way to keep Medusa safe other than basically sentencing her to a life of solitude.

And then she support Perseus on a quest to get Medusa's head.
To the gods!!!
I like how people like to think that Athena protected Medusa, when she was the one who helped Perseus to kill Medusa later on. Nice logic.
@@ravwenn4864 well I'm not sure about that to be honest, but it is true that Medusa's head was a symbol to mark women's shelters in ancient Greece. She was respected by Greek women, but that's all I know. I don't have the information to argue about that
The Medusa's head's using as a symbol as a protection; is because of Medusa's face had an ugly, scary look. Quite remembering looking. All that soldiers whom were went to kill her was afraid of her looks, and all the people was because of that keeps themselves meeting with Medusa, she had a quite infamous look. People were using her head as a symbol that is a protection: because of it was keeping away from humans because of it's infamous look.
Her head's using by the others, doesn't tell anything about Athena's doings. Athena, cursed Medusa with turning her into a monster. That's not really hard to understand that, this was not indeed a 'gift', because of that logic, then Medusa shouldn't have killed by a man. But she was killed by a man, Perseus, within the Athena's help.

The fact that she punished her because of Poseidon’s actions is soooo sad! I feel for her! Athena was just mad because Medusa was prettier and couldn’t handle it!! Athena should be a snake head monster!!
From my research, Athena then punished her for desecrating her sacred space. Yes, what Athena did may be quite unfair considering the fact that it is Poseidon’s fault in the first place.
Amongst all the Greek gods, Hestia is probably the only one who is not vain. I don't know why she's not as popular as the other evil ones. Maybe, Demeter and Persephone, too.
For males, Hades is the least vain but the most misunderstood by people. He is not the embodiment of evil. Zeus and the other are. The only thing I hate him is what he's done to Persephone.
idk about hades, there are some versions that say hades did kidnap her, but was planning to return her after he whole fiasco with demeter. persephone, while knowing about what eating food from the underworld does, took a bite of the pomegranate (not sure about the fruit tho) willingly.
but yeah otherwise i totally agree with you. most deitues in greek mythology are assholes. maybe it's got somethign to do with them being born from chaos.
Hestia wasnt part of the 12 great olympians if you include Dionysus into the mix. She wasnt unpopular but her worship was a given since theres hearth in every home (except for the poor maybe). And you dont invent stories about mischievous/troublesome goddess of the hearth since you expect the hearth of your home to be the most welcoming place for you and your loved ones....unlike lighting and the sea.
Hades manage over the realm of the death, therefore misunderstood. The thing with Persephone could be viewed as a mother who refuse to let her daughter get married....while the father agreed. About Demeter...well...she caused famine due to the event. Thus teaching us that one should obtain agreement of both parents less things become dicey if one has strong-willed mother in law.
The rest of the Olympians werent the embodiment of evil. Theres no concept of "The Devil" within Greek Mythology. Theres no deity/being who tempted mortal to do evil. In fact, evil was actually punished by the Olympians...well....their definition of evil was, of course, differ than our modern definition...such as having the guests ate the son's boiled flesh. Apparently, mistreatment of guests (having them ate the flesh) was valued heavier than the killing of the son.
Theres actally the original myth of Persephone and Hades where she fell in love with Hades and the under world. Her mother Demeter, didnt like that so she begged Zeus to do something about it. Hence Persephone having to come back once a year. The myth about him tricking her was created after. So their actually the healthiest realationship in Greek mythology

Modern scientific studies on narcissism even reference Medusa or name the studies after her because of this classical version of her narcissism causing her fate. The last version of her story is the one for some reason everyone accepts as fact despite it being the most recent account. The story is by Ovid which paints her as the victim of Athena and Poseidon merely due to her beauty. This story, being the most modern, should not be hard to believe has been altered by Ovid to separate his works from all those before him. When looking at history we most often always look at the oldest accounts as what was originally believed or true, so in this case it would be Medusa was born a monster not turned into one.
Eu prefiro o original grego. 👍👍👍
Hope the oldest one is true (or real,or whatever you call them). At least that one was not a sheer injustice and sad tale
Every one likes a good story, even if it's a tragedy.
Respect for kratos for killing both Poseidon(brutally) and Athena.
I like the interpretation where Athena had to curse Medusa due to pressure from the other gods, but used it as opportunity to give her the ability to protect herself so she'd never be sexually assaulted again.
If she wanted to help Medusa, why would she then help Perseus kill her?
Blud doesn't know what happened after to Medusa...
Wow, I definitely now understand why Medusa wants to kill everyone. Because she was betrayed by the people who she adored & served. A rape victim who was never granted the justice they deserved & is instead punished.
dragonrabbit30 yep
dragonrabbit30 I KNOW RIGHT, she even asked Athena for help, when Poseidon raped her (not showed in film) and what did she get? A punishment from the goddess she served....
That's what happen in our society

Medusa is innocent but Athena made her evil😐😐😐😐😐😐
Athena must have had a thing for little critters. She made Medusa into a serpent and Arachne into a spider.
@Serena Chan More like Zeus forbidding in-fighting of the Gods which caused the Gods to take it out on the humans and demi-gods.
Athena ended up turning Medusa's sisters into Gorgons as well. But Medusa was the only mortal one of the three.
Guess on some tales one of the sisters ends up shagging Poseidon and having Orion. The star constellation Orion.
To be fair, Medusa is in the older legends just isolated, and everyone she looks at turns into stone. So it's not like Medusa is evil, but she is isolated from everyone, and send to an island where she is devoid of contact. Not to mention, all the people that do try to come over to you, just try to cut off your head, I mean that would make me pretty paranoid as well.
She's not 'Evil'. She just hold grudge to everyone... when the grudge got out of controls.
At least she was before she became a monster.
Medusa is such a beautiful and innocent soul. I would have loved her and rather made a team to teach Athena her karma. Athena is the true definition of today's so called leaders at top positions
No tipu, yes *slotKING69*
Who want a movie called
" medusa the curse lifted "
That would be cool
Wut . . . destroying an extremely old belief/legend out of "that would be cool", yes that does not seems "cool" to me.
In that same line, let's make Zeus a women that rape men, and Hercules never be born, that would be cool am i right ?

Medusa should have an anime remake, where Medusa gets to have a happy ending.
Whenever, I see or hear these kind of stories I cannot bear it because of the trauma I had from 177013.
Metamorphosis? That honestly didn't seem as messed up as some random ones you just come across by accident sometimes. Like I remember once a story with a zombie apocalypse where certain people found certain ways to make money off the zombies until they expire. If something falls off, they just put it back together.
metamorphosis isn't that bad... instead the plot of the story teaches what happens if you choose the wrong friends and continue to be in bad relationship.
Now where is that guy with a funny hair and a punchy ghost 🥲
Almost every single Greek Gods: I comitted sheer amount of warcrimes, whatcha gonna do about it? 😈😈😈

i love how they created that woman so beautiful
She looks beautiful even with snake hair
There was a late Roman version of the Medusa story where Athena still left Medusa with her beauty. She just made it so that no one could gaze at her face without turning to stone. Sort of like "fine, if you're so beautiful that it interferes with your vows, then I'll make it so that no one can gaze on your beauty ever again."
Too bad no one will look at her without getting turned to stone.

Athena, goddess of wisdom. Also the goddess of extreme pettiness.
P.s. This looks amazing!
She didn't even do anything that guy force her to do it... men athena is such a blind goddess
or she didn't do anything on purpose..u know she is a wise god and she found perfect time to blame medusa and take revenge and turn her hair into snake..
or she purposely didn't do anything..u she was a wise god so she found perfect timing to blame medusa and snatch her beautiful hair..then also gift her the stone maker power to be seemed to help medusa from evil ppl
or she acted blind to fulfill her selfish desire to destroy medusa's beautiful hair
i
Even though she got raped she shouldn’t not gone into the temple!! To enter the temple you have to be a virgin! That’s why she got turned into a snake 🐍 poor thing I don’t think she knows that herself
I kinda just realized just how NORMAL Hades is compared to the other Gods of Olympus…
A Greek that time: Hmm, yeah let's make a a topic about sexual harassment on our gods.
Other Greeks: Yes
This is just a slot game. Not worth your time. Honestly dissapointed, thought this was an actual video game.
Yeah me too.
There is another theory where Athena actually knowns that Medusa was raped but she couldn’t avenge her , so instead she turned Medusa into a monster and gave her powers so she can protect herself against any man .
Medusa is a sad character. We can relate to modern society.
I read that an interpretation of Medusa's myth is that she was a victim of her own beauty, and Athena turned her into a monstrous being to protect her from men's desire and so she's able to raise her children far from all danger
Yes, and Hera cursed Hercules with madness, resulting in the death of his family, in order to test his will to atone for their deaths.
Sure, and then gave a polished shield to Perseus so he would hunt her down.
@@JingleJangle256 so did his family had to suffer
I shall never look at Percy Jackson the same
Well, Medsua's grudge against Poseidon and Athena played into the first story.
Athena's wisdom in these moments were overwhelmed with jealousy huhu my poor medusa
0:15 once twitter was invented Poseidon gets MeToo.
ALSO on a serious note. Athena cursed Medusa because she went to the temple not because she had been with Poseidon. Remember you needed to be a virgin. If Medusa had just stopped going to the Temple of Athena then she would have not been cursed. (and by going to the temple I mean being a priest of Athena)
Depends on which version you believe. Some believe it wasn't a curse at all. It was a gift to protect medusa from poseidon and all other men
Can't just everyone appreciate how AMAZING their animation skills are!?
you know, what i find really interesting is some takes on this myth. athena doesnt have as much power as poseidon- hes one of the “big three” (lol) AND a male, so she cant very well punish him. instead, she gives medusa a safeguard against those who hurt would hurt her (even if it did lead to her death in the end, athena also saved her from obliteration or being thrown out of society/abused). medusa was a symbol of safety on the buildings of women’s shelters in ancient times too, so its important to look at the myth from all possible angles, not just the ones filtered through the eyes of men. though they be many, what we mostly see today may not have been what they saw then
I never knew this part of it... thank ya love!
What an ignorant comment, read about the myth you love so much and learn how it ended.
