      Justin Spearman, I am starting my PhD in counselor education and supervision with Capella in two weeks. Do you attend part time or full time? Also do you work? I am still trying to decide if I want to move my status to full time.

      Just curious, what are your thoughts about psyd programs? I’ve heard of clinical psychology before. Are there different types of psyd programs?

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  3 роки тому +1

      @@John-eq9zx thank you, John. Hope all is well with you too and thank you for watching. PsyD programs are good for individuals who are looking to primarily practice in clinical settings rather than academic settings, although some individuals with PsyD degrees do work as professors. But if you want to mostly provide counseling services, assessment, etc., many go for their PsyD. Typically, PsyDs are in clinical and counseling psychology. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

    Would you mind shedding some light on a Counseling Psychology PhD as well? I would really appreciate it. Thank you!!!

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  2 роки тому

      Hi Jimmy, sure. Counseling Psychology PhD programs are typically 5 years. They are 4 years of coursework and a 1 year internship. Once you graduate you will then do a post-doctoral internship. The PhD will give you research and clinical experiences. You'd definitely want to go to a program that is APA accredited because it will be difficult to get into a post-doctoral internship/fellowship without an APA accredited degree. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

    Thank you for sharing. I was wondering if GMATT is required in all PhD programs to take this exam to get in..

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  3 роки тому

      Hi Nargiza. Thank you for watching. Most PhD programs will require the GRE. They will usually accept scores for up to 5 years. I know some PhDs require the GMAT....usually accounting/finance PhDs. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

    Thank you for all of the information. I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor, been working in the field for a few years. Currently considering a PhD program in Counselor Education and Supervision. Currently working with the Military and I'm overseas. I'm considering an online program from a institute like Walden University but fears that an online degree would limit my job opportunities in the future. What do you think about that?

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Cathe. Sorry for the late reply on this. I would say if it is an online program or an online school, it is best to pick one that is CACREP. If it is a university with a brick and mortar campus, it be best, but I know that isn't always possible. Are you still thinking about this or have you applied to a program?

      Hello. You can apply to the PhD program without being licensed. There may be some programs that require licensure, but I don't think that is typically a prerequisite for most programs.
