great work!
What did u use for the weapons? They look like blank? Very nice film btw!
Thanks! They were real Glock 17's firing 9mm DAG blanks :)
@@jpcfilm amazing!
@@Mindofadirector There's behind the scenes on my channel too :)
hahaha spinning top
Nicely done.
Thank you :)
How did you shoot the gun scene?
Hello!
First off, I hired an armourer who trained the gunmen on how to use the weapons. We used Glock 17s that he also supplied. They're real guns, but firing DAG blanks. The car had to be empty in case of any shrapnel, and the armourer said where we could film from :)
@@jpcfilm didn’t know they were real guns.
@@Theplugstudios313 Just uploaded some BTS on what we did with the guns if you're interested
What lenses dude?
This was shot on Helios 44-2
I myself know out of experience how time and strenght consuming projects like this one can be.
Alone for that u have made a good job.
BUT:
Ya all please help me understand WHY THIS FILM and what for this film is awarded!?
I do understand though that it is technical very good because the camera it is used. But this cannot be the only reason why this short is awarded. ..
In terms of story, "Bad Beat" has no Hook, no Plot Points, Pinchs or anything like that. ...
Am I the only one who is seeing it like described?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your interesting comment. This film won Best Crime Film at Discover Film Awards - It was screened at the Prince Charles Cinema on Leicester Square in London and it's now available on Discover Film's paid streaming service which is available on smart TV's, mobiles and major airlines. It also won Best Director at Italy's Absurd Film Festival - a festival that specialises in craziness. At the Discover Film Awards it was chosen among 40 other films for the festival out of over 4000 submissions, so I guess they saw something in it.
It was nominated for Best Actor, Best Script (twice), Best Editing and Best British Film at TMFF, Feel The Reel and a couple others.
The film is meant to be slow. I want the audience to listen to the conversation between two friends and gradually learn whats going on. The plot you mention that doesn't exist: Two friends are sitting in a car waiting for the perfect moment to strike a bank and make off with the cash. What do we learn? In the first few seconds they discuss what they would do with their money. A passing car prompts a side-story which results in learning that Jack used to be in prison. This is also illustrated with his Russian prison tattoos. So, now we know they're not police at all.
Then, a knocking on the boot proves there's something sinister going on. The American returns with a handgun. Obviously there's someone kidnapped in the boot who had a gun. What do we think? Maybe there's a cop in the boot? Sure, I could have scripted "Oh my God, the cop in the boot is dead now. Too bad he's a cop and I stole his gun and his clothes..." I wanted it to be obscure and I wanted the audience to figure things out. There's no fun in holding the audiences hand and leading them through each step, it's more fun to let them figure it out.
Jack's nervousness and keeping an eye on the watch prove that they're waiting for something. When the American has the gun we hear a truck pull up outside and they're fixated on it. Why? A cash truck perhaps? They're almost ready to strike, but the gun goes off and chaos breaks loose in the car. If you listen you'll hear a bank alarm ringing in the background but they're too caught up in the madness. Why is there a bank alarm going off? Well, you'll see the guys in masks arrive at the end. Two guys in rubber masks with duffel bags turn up - they've robbed the bank already. They stand in front of a car with what they assume to be cops sat inside so might as well kill the witnesses. When they draw their guns a couple of bank notes can be seen falling from the bags.
The film is subtle and a fun story many have enjoyed. It's been described as brave, tense, chaotic and hilarious. I'm sorry it did nothing for you but I suppose not everyone enjoys the same things.
@@jpcfilm Thank you very much for your explaination! I really appriciate that!

The eating noises ruins it
I eat silently
Damn. We should have used silent peanuts but they were more pricey
