I'm going to actually buy some of your sheet music to help support you. Not that I need another copy of this song, smile. But to say how much of a blessing you have been to me. I've playing professionally for over 40 year's, however I'm still learning, and you are an excellent teacher, player and giver. May God richly bless your life.
"To avoid getting a black eye, protect your face and stay out of the bass player's register" this is so true - when I was first learning, a bass player told me to stop playing the roots of the chords or he would kick my ass. I stopped playing the roots very quickly :)
David Want to say this is a great tutorial. I've been working on this song for a while, but my note reading was sub par. it's much better now and I can really appreciate your arrangement and the work you put into these videos. I got out a pair of earphones and played parts on my Casino Ctk4200. The quality was unbelievable..as an electronic tech, I realized the preamp circuits were very good and the output was passable. It's less than 200 to purchase one. I love doing the short version or an Eb7 to D7. Just Eb Db and D C..Sounds actually better than many grand pianos on my Casino. It's really good thing to show your hands and have the music passing by on the screen. I will refer this video to others. The best Pianostyle100.
I've been watching your videos and posts and absolutely adore them. May I also add that your playing strikes fantastic balance between the technical micro tensions and micro releases that good piano playing entails. There's not a single stiff muscle in your hands (or your forearms, so far as I can judge), yet they are ready to pounce like cats on the most intricate patterns without any sign of effort. These are not only fantastic jazz piano lessons, but they're brilliant piano lessons too! Can't thank you enough, and sorry for the verbose text... 😊
This is a great tutorial! But in bar 21 over the G half-diminished, bird and miles play A natural not Ab. Adam Maness just pointed this out on the open studio channel. You play A natural during the bird play along but not the other times.
David, I just started learning DL. In 12 keys. Minimum muscle memory dependence. I have been studying this intensely. Noticing patterns..modes..finger patterns, etc I've got most of this song down at full speed. It took awhile. Trying to unlock the different nuances of this song. Off the Abmaj7..it looks like it goes to a F bebop mixolydian. Notes. F E Eb D C AC Eb F. I see some of the notes as extensions..R 7 b7 13 5 11 3 5 b7 R..then it goes to Bb7..it seem like we are playing an altered F 7 Dom scale.. I do notice the Bbmin7 seems to come from the Db scale. The piece starts out with G Ab G F E. Beginners can play it backwards.and forwards. (E F G Ab G F E. It's like playing the motes of.a scale backwards and forwards.simple.. Also seeing things like an altered harmonic scale is pretty. 😎.cool.It s not perfectly in order. In the.beginning measures the notes (F G Ab Bb C E F are present as a pitch .collection. our ear hears it., but there is a Db in this as written and played. One thing this does is help transcribe a difficult song. Also I don't think that it's common in jazz to run every note of.a scale..would be.boring and predictive. The best. Pianostyle100
Nice tutorial ! But I'm afraid the code in bar 28 seems not correct. (specifically the sound of "A", it's still with #=sharp) But thanks for the good music anyways !
Bravo David, your work is so inspiring and motivating. Worth doing the task that you gave me regarding the practice routine. I still have to practice, and to learn how to make videos:))
Great David, as usual. I was thinking of working this song, that an oppotunity! Just a "bémol": you have to tune your piano, especially the medium/bass, but I suppose you know that ;-).
David i agree with Eric Trudel.. your playing is flawless as far as i can tell. Again thank you for sharing.. Charlie parker was primarily a saxophonist .. i know he wrote the melody, but did he write the accompanying chords. I m sure he could but just curious.
Thanks for this nice work. Just one thing: On bar 28, left hand, we hear an B - A, should be an B - Ab to respect the diminished chord. (the sheet is ok)
I like very very much your way of teaching and I like to play the melodies with block chords locked hands too. Please can you tell me if you have done such arrangements? I should be so glad if I could learn them by your way of teaching. Thanks so much and sorry for my bad english! Have a good sunday!
It is strange that certain tunes just are more compelling. This tune ,Joy Spring, Giant Steps, Along Came Betty, Doxy, Fall, I guess everyone has a different list but this one, in my experience, has always been the one guaranteed to generate applause even if you're playing background music. But more than that the line itself reinfuses these chords with this huge charge of potential energy. Magnetic tune even removed from it's historical importance.
love the video.. have you done confirmation?. I have one part memorized. Can you do a video on swing..there are very few videos on swing with viewable notes.. David I know this a masterpiece of bebop jazz..but it seems to be mostly a collection of licks. I hear that Al Haig was the piano player.
Nice arrangement! I liked it a lot. May I ask what is the outro? Is it an extract of a piece? I'm very interested in knowing what it is, please let me know if you do.
What do you when you get a dent or a ding in your car? Up until now, you either had to drive around that way or spend hundreds of dollars to have it fixed.
I keep my wife's car/ truck running. If she gets a ding in it.. I will be the one to fix it. I'll probably be looking in to the Ding King. But I hope it doesn't happen.
donna lee, my favorite ballad
Lol its no ballad
@@operationblackout1095 i thought what he said was that it has a low speed...

really love your videos. I think out of all youtube jazz tutotial, your's is the best. Keep going man ! i learned a lot from you
excellent--a great teacher and program
"To avoid getting a black eye, protect your face and stay out of the bass player's register"
this is so true - when I was first learning, a bass player told me to stop playing the roots of the chords or he would kick my ass. I stopped playing the roots very quickly :)
that's so ridiculous though. many of the greats used roots in their chords.. although only using rooted chords is bad.
The smaller your patch, the more tenaciously you defend it.
Muchas Gracias !

Muy util como herramienta greacias...
3:31 is Eb-A-Db not D natural
That faceslap made me cry with laughter.
Great! How can I get that partiture ?
what are u playing at the end of this video?
Thats my boy 🖒🖒🖒🖒
hey amazing player love that too much and God bless you for share your knowledge. can I email you please?
do you practice these heads in all the key's?
Nobody has the unlimited time to spend, and nobody became a musician to bore themselves with such tedious exercises.
Is there a mistake at 3:27 or do I not know how to read a music sheet
Sorry 3:25
Few parts of melodies are just wrong. Check out the bars of 6th, 13th 15th. Just listen to the record of C.P.

What do you when you get a dent or a ding in your car? Up until now, you either had to drive around that way or spend hundreds of dollars to have it fixed.
Not anymore. The Ding King gives you the power to remove that dent or ding in minutes, and you do it yourself.
Jazz musicians usually borrow wife's car.
Jazz musicians get to have wives?
I keep my wife's car/ truck running. If she gets a ding in it.. I will be the one to fix it. I'll probably be looking in to the Ding King. But I hope it doesn't happen.
wtf? like jazz musicians have cars get out of here billy mayz. im on welfare
