That was a great interview Jo. Don't sell yourself short... yes - Robert is a brilliant presenter but you are just wonderful and brighten everyone's day.
What a fantastic interview! As someone who has dipped in and out of London my whole life, I can’t wait to read this book! I’ve tried to explain to people how London has changed and Robert Elms described it brilliantly!
Wonderful interview Jo I grew up on the Isle of Dogs....Poplar , jelled eels pie and mash etc; real Londoner moved on to Primrose Hill imagine the difference..my London in the 50’s was a magical time great energy you could feel where ever you were...miss it. 👩🏻🌾
I've just found this interview and how terrific us it! A squatters estate agency....marvellous. I've learned so much from my two favourite rafio presenters...thanks Robert and Jo
My two favourite presenters, talking about my favourite city in a great interview. I love all my Londons - past, present, posh, downmarket, as a child, teenager, older bird, resident, mother, employee, passenger, customer, person being entertained, in all my moods and guises. Long may London thrive and change, but holding onto the best bits, and I hope you two will still be there, singing its praises with an occasional nice little moan in between. X
Your my most favourite people I love you both I wish I had you as my friend and Robert what a lovely passionate man. Love your dresses Jo you look fantastic. 💋👍🏼
As a Londoner, born and bred, I can totally relate to this. Born in Hackney, the West End was available like a treat, getting on the 30 bus and getting off near Selfridges. Roaming around C&A with my Mum and Nan (boring as a child, but great trying on the hats in there!). Mum used to treat myself and cousins to the Panto at the Palladium for Christmas or as we got a little older it was a film, which always appeared in Leicester Square before going out to the local cinemas. I felt very privileged. Imagine my horror at 20 when my mum and stepdad said we were moving to Waltham Abbey. It was the end of the earth for me. The journey into work at Whitechapel was horrendous and I couldn't wait to get back to where I belonged......London. Got married a year later and luckily got our first flat in Leytonstone. Heaven once again.
So enjoyed this interview...it felt really relaxed and comfortable. Nice to know I’m not alone in my complete love affair with our dirty, beautiful, bad and beguiling old town. X
Great interview. The Ruff Tuff Cream Puff Agency was run by poet and playwright Heathcote Williams. He was a member of a group who started up the" Independent Republic of Frestonia" in a few streets near Latimer Road, Notting Hill back in the 1970s. They squatted in houses that were due to be demolished and replaced by an industrial estate. Republic members even applied to join the United Nations! I think we have to embrace the fact that London is an ever changing city. When I was young the West End was the place to go out and socialise. Now Londoners' horizons have expanded when it comes to exploring other parts of the city away from "their manor". In the past who went to Spitalfieds, Shoreditch, Southwark, Bermondsey, Camden, Kings Cross, Peckham or Brixton unless you lived round there? These are all the places where today's young Londoners go to party.
Yourself & Robert, together, what a scoop. A great interview Jo. You always bring out the best & create wonderful discussion. Love both your shows. Must get the book.. X!
This was great Jo! I listen to radio London pretty much all day while at work as you know. You and Robert are special to me because of the way you connect to others, and the way you are connected to the greatest city in the world. I’m currently reading, no, savouring Roberts book. And although I really like you regular content here on UA-cam this format showcases your talent for interviewing people in a very special way. Thank you.
Brilliant Jo and Robert - thank you for a fab interview. I worked at the Astoria in the 80's, and promoted a few club nights in the 90's. Hitching back in this weekend - still feels like home. xxx
Hi Jo - I worked for Johnny Gunnell, when the Astoria was refurbished in the mid 80's. Promoting our own events programme, and with all the main UK promoters of the time. A fabulous networking opportunity. As a creative arts postgrad from North Wales (I'm pals with Ian Shaw btw), it was where I cut my back teeth in the industry. Never looked back and still going strong. All the best - Ali Carter xxx
Wow Jo! What a treat! Fascinating interview (although you should have faced him)! I rarely get to listen to Robert's show as need to choose between the two of you as i need to work too! But i always enjoy the few mins of banter you spend together before you hand over to him. I listen to Vanessa too so need the time in between! Keep up your great work on air and vlog! Luv x
I loved this, you both provide a soundtrack to the day for me, only issue was the camera was in an odd place, slightly distracting, however the content was great. Thank you Jo as always
Another fun interview for me to watch and listen. to. Thanks Jo. Love Robert Elms....just wish he would just for once play a Johnny Mathis song. Any song! Thank you.
Great interview!! You both are part of my morning commute here in the US - puts a smile on my face before going to work. I can't wait to read the book.
Just reading Roberts book, London made us. It’s taken me down memory lane, I recognise everything about Soho, Kings Road, but I’ve never been to Burnt Oak😂. I lived in Fulham, Hammersmith, Portobello Road and some times Kings Road, with friends. The boutiques, atmosphere was amazing. There was alway something happening, be it music at the Marquee, record shops Soho and of course the fashion. Love it all and would never change it for anything😍❤️
Playing catch-up of your Vlogs Jo.Love them! The Squatters letting agents made me laugh. Would love an Interview of Danny Baker, only you may not get a word in edge ways! I moved out of London about 8 years ago, but listening to Yours' and Roberts radio shows lets me keep in touch from a distance, with what's going on. Though sometimes I feel I'm missing out : ( Abbie in North Wales X
Damn good interview with Robert Elms, love this dude, he's my London. I will definitely check out his book. Robert is a little older than my brother who too was a soul boy. I was younger but wanted to be in the soul scene and would go clubbing with my brother, not old enough to get in but I did. Soho is my town. I love spending time there, I've not been for a while. My mother worked in Soho many moons ago so my brother and I were there often, mostly in the day time. Soho was great, interesting characters, if I remember correctly. I love your name for Burnt Oak, burnt wood, I knew what you ment, it made me giggle, I'm doing that kind of thing all the time, giving thing a new name. Anyway Jo I'm still loving the new hair cut and a great colour too and that blouse is super fantastic. Jo you and Robert keep laughing you make my London.
@@MiddleAgedMinx it was in a night club on Dean St. back in 70's. The club has long gone. I must go and have a day out and see what's happening. When I do go up there, I go where I'm going and back home again.
I concur love robert elms great man

thats actually a brilliant idea
yes, that would be good, someone who actually comes from london and not a wannabe londoner from the suburbs.
Hi Jo, I live in Mornington. Crossroads was one of my childhood favourite TV memories.
Great interview, love them both
Splendid.

Brilliant!
Great interview!! Off to buy the book!!
Rex its an extremely well written book...but leaves you wondering what we have gained in this city ( as we have lost so much)
I do like Robert, I think he is my favorite radio presenter of all time and radio.
"London's like a colouring book where every page has been coloured in" - this, but literally.
Robert quaffing that beer... Wishing he had ordered a "Cerveza grande"
I believe you had the best time ever in the best city. I wish I'd been there in the 70's.
Oh we did!!! x
great interview Jo, do you if its coming out as an audio book as i find it very hard to read books ? it is just seen it lol
I just bought the audiobook on Amazon.
P.S. I forgot to add that Robert reads it.
Forgot to mention Jo, missed you on BBC radio London today
Great interview with Gary Oldman.
ha! ha!
I should add I know Hounslow isn’t London but my best friend and I would hop on the tube into London and have great times ...Happy Days!
I really like Robert Elms, I also grew up in Burnt Oak. Robert Elms was the best thing to come out of Burnt Oak, I couldn’t wait to leave.
Why did you not look at him very much while he was talking?
how long has burnt oak been NW9 ?
Ha - was only talking about the Pizzaland jacket potato and coleslaw combi the other day. Their coffee was great, too.
Didnt we think it was the height of sophistication!
Absolutely disgusting what the BBC have done to these 2
Jo, the sounds seems pretty low in this interview, I can hear you well, but not Robert.
Im wondering if its your computer? I just listened again and it seems the levels are good with both of us
