The other version of Ave Maria is by Bach/Gounod, which my father also used to sing. Both are beautiful 🙏🙏

There is an Original Ave Maria but it is in a Gregorian Chant format the Standard of the Roman Church.

The original title of the song is 'Ellens Gesang III (Hymn an die Jungfrau)', referring to the Virgin Mary. Indeed, the original English language text is a prayer to Mary, but not the regular 'Ave Maria' text with which it is associated these days. It is unknown who first transcribed the Ave Maria text to Schubert's melody, as far as I know.
