If this cinematic were more like how it played out in the game, Hawke would be running around in circles, hooting like Curly from the Three Stooges as he periodically tosses fireballs at the Arishok when he has a chance. This trailer would also be ten minutes long.
I remember seeing this and thinking, Cool he's an Arcane warrior and a blood mage, then the game just made you run around the room escaping while firing spells at the arishok if were a mage.
+darkpitofdoom2 DA2 was a shite fest compared to the original. DA3 AKA DA;I is just an open world version of DA2..Bioware has lost their edge and will never recover. CD Projekt RED destroyed Bioware wth TW3 and they have a smaller team

Trailer!Hawke: Embraces destiny, does not show fear, engages the Arishok in melee Game!Hawke: Screams hysterically for their mabari to come back while chugging health potions and hiding behind pillars.
+Alice Legacy haha, yeah it could be a bit dodgy if you were a support mage. I remember beating him pretty easily with a couple builds; one was a Force specialist fire mage, basically a nuke fight, and I remember the Spirit being good, the static cage or w/e it was could lock him up and you could punish him pretty good.
I love Dragon Age 2. Including how the Mages fight with their Staves, it's almost like a combination of Staff play combined with spell casting in a continuous movement sequence. I think other video games should try that method of game play with Mages, definitely stands out in my opinion.
Everyone in the commets is discussing whether Hawke was a blood mage in this trailer or not and I'm just sitting here wondering if I was the only person who played as a reaver.
+Isaiah Stephens but in the trailer he clearly summoned a demon (well, his hands). also, trailer hawke is a mage and thus can't be a reaver. even though reavers are so cool *.*
Well...much time has passed since DA2 was released as well as Inquisition. So many people were down on DA2. I, however, really really really liked it. The story was very compelling and enjoyable and the fighting action was much more polished and fun than origins. True there were a few weak points, but this does not ruin what in my opinion is otherwise a stellar gaming experience! I thoroughly enjoyed inquisition as well, but the story is not as good as DA2. Loved Origins, of course!
DAO was a VERY GOOD game, while DA2 just good. I think that's the problem, the second game was inferior to its ancestor in some ways. But DAI is definitely VERY FUCKING GOOD, and I've played ALL the games without regrets. ;D
+Suicide Malkavian I've always loved Dragon Age: Origins. Dragon Age 2 I thought was quite restricted (maybe not so many locations?) I don't know about DA:I... but I've heard it's good.
Ulfric Ruthgardsson Yep, I agree about Dragon Age 2. While you have many locations in Origins, the maps of DA2 always look the same, and you're just allowed to visit other places than Kirkwall to do quests/sidequests. It could have been an extremely good game, but it wasn't so because of EA and BioWare laziness and eagerness to get money. That was very disappointing =/ About DA: I, you should REALLY play it if you have the chance. Last week I played it again, and there's always something I didn't before, or that I haven't seen in the others gameplays. It's an amazing experience and have everything we love about this game franchise: incredible characters with incredible stories, tons of quests and sidequests, very cool looking skills, romance, and the best fights against dragons and giants EVER. (Sorry for the very long comment, I'm just such a dumb Dragon Age enthusiat, rly)
+Suicide Malkavian Nothing wrong about admiring games, especially if it's Dragon Age. Also, I don't think it's purely out of EA and Bioware laziness that DA:2 wasn't as good as the others. Knowing EA, they probably pressured Bioware to release the game early, making things half-assed.
I just teared up rewatching this. After playing veilguard for 1 hr I really needed some old dragon age content to calm my self down for being so upset and disappointed
Yes. It's a good game, with a good plot. The problem I had with it was the esthetics and certain quest that was scipted strange. Look at this trailer and the concept art for the geme, they are so interesting.
Seriously, everyone had problems with this fight. My tank hawke just went one on one with the arishok... in a really long battle because he did like 0 damage.
If Mage Hawke had warrior skills in this vid (Pommel Strike and Might Blow) he would do Stagger and Brittle combos all day by himself for massive damage. Just like how magi in Origins can combine spells on their own. Great.

***** your issue is that you focus too much on the books. the books are based on the games. so that means they don't matter. if the game says something different then that makes the books wrong. and the games dont give a clear picture of who to side with. most of the templars you meet are good people who fear mages a little to much. you also meet a lot of bad mages in DA2 and DA:I. the games present both sides on equal moral footing. bioware made a game that appeals to masses. they dont care what every individual fan wants, they make games that will make the most people happy. and as for the herald of andraste part, the inquisition is a religious order. what did you expect. and your character can either embrace the title or tell everyone he/she isnt holy. it adds a aspect that defines how your character feels about the power and title he/she was given. The entire story was great. it was dramatic, it had its wtf moments, and great cinematics. i almost cried when i had to choose whether to sacrifice hawke or stroud and when i thought flemath was going to steal marrigons son. the story was emotional. And as for the characters. Blackwall was awesome. iron bull was awesome. cassandra was awesome. Dorian and Varric were hilarious. Cole was weird sure, but he was an entertaining character who you were never quite sure what he was. Sera was the only character i didnt like but ive met many people who did. get over yourself and except it was a good game and was well done, but it just wasn't a game for you. if it was a shitty game then it wouldnt have won GOTY

I still dont get why people say this is a bad game. Its not, I mean it pales in comparison to origins but most games do. Dragon age 2 is a good game to me and definitely more entertaining then most games these days. I think its a solid 8/10: it has a good story/characters, better paced combat then origins but less strategic, and has a better leveling up system, but has less replay value because of the choices that are less about morals but personal belief.
It's a very average *game* and its underdeveloped - however, I personally couldnt care less about its gameplay, I only play Bioware games for the story and characters (also romances obviously). So while its a very average game, its an awesome story regardless.
after playing through all three games multiple times I think 2 has the best story and companions. Gameplay elements are lacking but the story just kills it for me.
+DrekkiHawke I know right? He looked totally hot here and in the game he is...slightly less hot though not terrible looking. I wonder why they made Marian so gorgeous compared to him.
M'kay, I know this has been shot down forever and ever by "it costs too much money" or "it's a crap-ton of work", but in the distant future, when it's not so hard and is cheaper, they need to make a fully animated movie with this quality. They really, really need to.
I used a Male Hawke as a Warrior, and a Female Hawke as Both Rouge and Mage because to me it's kinda makes sense for the style and all that was my opinion that's all :P
cmon lets play fetch the Invisible ball! gotta love Sarcastic Hawke. looks like the Duke has fallen from grace, YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
Hawke had peak armor design! I always loved dragon ages armor, and I'll give credit to the new one on that front, most of the armor still looks good. Just gotta turn your brain off to enjoy it first.
I hope that we get a class that looks like the way this Hawke fights. A mage but a mage who uses their staff blade like a spear, like a more melee centered Mage build. Dai kinda has this with the Knight Enchanter, but it's very simplistic
I hope that at some point mages get to fight like Hawke does in this trailer (I know for DAI they don't). Would be amazing if Staffs had blades and essentially we could cast spells at far range, yet if something gets close to us we use the blade part of our staff as a spearlike weapon! Arg, that would be so cool and useful!
I always had this idea of cross class weapons/fighting styles for the dragon age series. Dragon Age has always been defined as having a Tank, a Support, and some form of DPS either ranged or melee with typical weapons: Sword and Shield, Two-Handed Sword, Staff, Double Daggers, and Bow. Let's shake the game up with Spears that can be used by mages and rogues, a One-Handed Rapier for warriors and mages, or Sword and Knife for Warriors and Rogues. Give the weapon it's own tree like in DAI (Sword & Shield, Archery etc.), but provide it unique advantages. Sword & Knife rogues will have better parrying and melee defense but lose a lot of ranged defense. One-Handed Rapier Mages will be close ranged and melee focused DPS machines with high attack speed, but a limit to the kinds of spells they can cast. Spears will be single-target, medium ranged weapons for mages but can act to debuff enemies at close range when used by rogues. Just a thought. LOL
Sorta, but i mean more so that it is a legit thing, like i can have a mix between two-handed and mage. When people get close i just start slicing at them instead of using a spell to do it haha
It's really all relative in the large scheme of things. Unlike 1, there is no clear "enemy" in 2. The Qunari are shipwrecked in the city and won't leave without a relic they know is in the area. They finally have enough and start rampaging through the city until they reach the keep and slaughter the viscount. On the other hand, the entire city is a corrupt and horrible place with incompetent guards, slavers, demons etc. So it's really hard to feel sorry for the place. Sorry for overloading you with info, but if I can, I like people to be informed. I do recommend the series though. It's great.
kiwipile not at all, couldn't ask for a better answer, the story sounds intriguing; very interesting. But I don't like video games and wouldn't play any game just for the story. Hope they make a movie lol
6 years later and this trailer is STILL badass. It's such a damn shame that DA II suffered from rushed development, otherwise it would've been that much better.
trailer hawke: badass fight sequence with using only his staff as a spear and summoning a fade creature with blood from his wounds actual hawke: betting that the arishok will become too dizzy to fight as he runs around a pillar while chugging lyrium potions
The strategy works though, and Hawke has pretty powerful lungs from all the running around Kirkwall. He can play "catch me if you can" with Arishok all day long :)
Trailer: Badass fighting with lots of cool moves
Reality: Running around the two pillars and chugging potions
Thank the lord for those 2 pillars. The real unsung heroes
Even as a warrior I get screwed over by that damn Qunari.
@@Owliare for me it was ALOT easier to defeat him as a mage..aas a warrier I got stunned so easily
omg that's so true xD

Man, Varric's storytelling is really over the top.
Best comment I've read on this video.
+Citronnelle yet we never see a dwarf in one of the cinematic trailers of a dragon age game. Nor an elf for that matter
Or the fact that this trailer really didnt represent the game in anyway.
I have played the game and i know what part its supposed to represent
its just not as nearly epic of a showdown as its portrayed here hence
the comment varrics storytelling is really over the top. Thats at least
what i thought citronnelle was pointing out. I thought the game was
decent a let down yes but decent.
yawn thats not what i said and its not exactly like the trailer.
Varric made me look good in this cutscene.. It's a shame there was a lot more running around chugging potions than he bothered to write down
Fawkes Pryde whhhhyyyyyy ....!! Toooo funny !!!
I love how impressed Cassandra is when she hears about it and I’m just sitting there thinking about all the running and screaming I did

+Phlebas yep thats like how it happen for me as well
+Phlebas while failing to solve or stop any problem for the city.
Ha! Your Comment made my day!
Varric must have made this cinematic then. It's just like one of his stories
Those pillars were a godsend. Lol.
No no no, I think this trailers accurate. Hawke is a mage, got hit once and everything was nearly over. Sounds about right to me.
Oh you
But then he resorted to blood magic. That’s why we have the Circles.
Owliare Crushing Prison isn’t blood magic, it’s one of the arcane warrior abilities
funny i thought Rogues were the 1H.K.O
Jacob Reynolds the chantry might just consider it blood magic either way.
I remember seeing this and thinking, Cool he's an Arcane warrior and a blood mage, then the game just made you run around the room escaping while firing spells at the arishok if were a mage.
As a warrior you just kinda poke at each other until he dies, lol
Milan Brkic and as a rouge you just run till you can go invisible, then backstab, then repeat
Or you mark for death assasinate vendeta and,if you are like me(overleveled),twin fangs and he just kinda dies.
I actually created a defensively strong mage specifically so I could play him like the trailer.
No, his mother was killed by a necromancer.
We didn't know how good we had it.
Now this is what a true Battlemage looks like in combat! Outstanding character design, combat ability and magical prowess...

Whose idea was it to show a mage Hawke killing the Arishok this way ? I think every mages won this fight by outrunning the thing

M'kay, I know this has been shot down forever and ever by "it costs too much money" or "it's a crap-ton of work", but in the distant future, when it's not so hard and is cheaper, they need to make a fully animated movie with this quality. They really, really need to.
Won't be too long til fans can will have the technology to do it themselves.
Kate Mulgrew
I used a Male Hawke as a Warrior, and a Female Hawke as Both Rouge and Mage because to me it's kinda makes sense for the style and all that was my opinion that's all :P
So?nobody care what your playstyle is
zohoro then why are you asking me
cmon lets play fetch the Invisible ball! gotta love Sarcastic Hawke. looks like the Duke has fallen from grace, YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
sarcastic hawke is one of the best videogame character ever
it's there together with renegade shepard
Hawke had peak armor design! I always loved dragon ages armor, and I'll give credit to the new one on that front, most of the armor still looks good. Just gotta turn your brain off to enjoy it first.
Old times, when qunari looked amazing!
Was isabela the canon li?
i wish they would bring back this fast-paced gameplay compare to inquisition just saying
Этот трейлер лучше чем весь геймплей Dragon age 4
Hello again everyone hahaha
Well A lot of comments making fun of the gameplay must be stoked for veilgaurd lol.
Trailer was the best part of the Game 😅
Freaking Fenris setting me up for a dang duel with the Arishok, I'm still salty many years later
i'll never forget this trailer
this was the trailer that taught me the lesson to never pre order games
Never realized he used blood magic at the end right there. Didn’t even think about it till now. Huh
It’s an Arcane Warrior ability that he used
@@yang6642 I thought there was no arcane warrior in 2
EA, stop prompting ChatGPT for more "relatable" character design templates.
Someone should've told these guys how bad games are gonna get in the future
Comment aged like a fine wine
This is awesome!not veilguard...
Imagine a dragon age game where you could fight like this as a mage
would be pretty epic to shred a final boss to pieces like it's nothing
I hope that we get a class that looks like the way this Hawke fights. A mage but a mage who uses their staff blade like a spear, like a more melee centered Mage build. Dai kinda has this with the Knight Enchanter, but it's very simplistic
so basically bring back the Arcane Warrior specialization from DA:O but put it in overdrive.
Lmao so funny how the actual gameplay LOOKS NOTHINGGGGGGGGGGGGG LIKEEEEEEEEEE THISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
Wooh! Spell binding fight and Hawke looks jaw dropping. The majestic walk after killing Arishok is splendid.
2:19 FATALITY
I heard shit of that what that granny said, next time make it louder.
Flemeth =/= "that granny"
+Lady Stoneheart Lady Stoneheart is a scary granny too
Amadeus I'm only barely above 40!! Don't let the pale, rotted flesh and the wrinkles and the white, wizened hair and the decrepit voice fool you!
LOL
thatsessentially how it worked in DA2. you shot spells till they got close then whacked them with your staff.
I imagine that they would do that if it didn't make the warrior class basically obsolete
That's pretty much how knight enchanter works in DAI doesn't it?
Sorta, but i mean more so that it is a legit thing, like i can have a mix between two-handed and mage. When people get close i just start slicing at them instead of using a spell to do it haha
is it just me or does hawke loook like manny pacquiao
Don't know who those guys are, don't know anything about Dragon Age 2 or 1. But this CGI was awesome.
Who was the bad guy then?
He was the leader of the race Qunari in the city of Kirkwall.
Oh cool, but what I wanted to know was, who was supposed to be the villain in this fight?
The defense secretary for the Qunari.
The Arishok
Not the best of the series and DA2 had it's faults but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would play again without a doubt
this just proves to me all dragon age trailers are mishandled and are not properly marketed well also misleading as hell
6 years later and this trailer is STILL badass. It's such a damn shame that DA II suffered from rushed development, otherwise it would've been that much better.
Oberyn vs The Mountain
Nowhere close.
Shit, Hawke isn't wearing a helmet. o.o
Mort Onmaz Must be disabled in the options. :D
The mage still has his teeth... For that matter.... His head
@@Dazen101 yeah the Arishok could actually fight and would have won if Hawke didn't use magic
trailer hawke: badass fight sequence with using only his staff as a spear and summoning a fade creature with blood from his wounds
actual hawke: betting that the arishok will become too dizzy to fight as he runs around a pillar while chugging lyrium potions
The strategy works though, and Hawke has pretty powerful lungs from all the running around Kirkwall. He can play "catch me if you can" with Arishok all day long :)
DA4: no blood magic
DA2: main character uses blood magic in the trailer
hawke is the most badass character in the dragon age universe.
2024: Look how they massacred our boi
just here to see from how high we have fallen... so sad
THIS is what a Qunari looks like.
Not like a discount tiefling plastic doll.
I so wish they made a f!Hawke version of this.
Yeah, that'd be awesome.
I was with this face:
:c
When i saw male Hawke and not Female one, she's so op
@@barbara457890 well she does have the same voice actor as Ciri from The Witcher 3 who is known as The Lady Of Space And Time
THE META knew Female Hawke's voice actress was familiar
Jo Wyatt is the BEST
