My brother and I had our own original GameBoys when we were young. The year was 1989 and they cost $189.99 Canadian dollars each as I remember. Your video brings back memories.
After watching this I ordered and build 2 of these PiBoys. One for myself and one as a birthday present for my daughter. They are simply awesome, so thanks for the tip 👍 However, I didn't like how the fans would constantly keep throttling up and down. So, I took a piece of cardboard and cut it into a shape that would cover the largest area possible inside the Pi4s without it covering the Bluetooth circuit or touching any of the connectors. I then used this template to cut a piece of aluminum plate which can go on top of the ARM CPU, the RAM Chip and the USB MCU with some heat conducting tape in between. I also drilled some holes in strategic places to enable the airflow to circulate underneath the aluminum and another 3 holes for mounting the plate with some screws and spacers to the underside of the PCB with the fan which goes on top of the PI. - Oh boy, that really made a huge difference. Probably not enough for overclocking the Pi4s. But at least now I can only hear the fans when I put the PiBoys directly next to my ear. - I have taken pictures along the way and have scanned the template, if anyone should be interested in doing something similar.
This sounds perfect, I know this is an old post but I would be very interested in any pictures or more information you could share on this.I recently decided to get my Piboy DMG back up and running with a fresh install of Batocera. After all the hours of tinkering expected and everything put in place rrasy to play, I was reminded of the fan issue 🤦♂️
I love my NesPiCase for Pi3B. A RetroPie custom image exists that is tuned specifically for the yellow RCA output to an old CRT TV running all games at true 240p. I'm loving it. As far as emulating classics portably, I love my exploited Vita slim model.
I was going to get this, but hen Retroflag released the GPi Case 2. With a CM4, internal battery, bigger screen, extra buttons, and coolest of all, the docking station, it quickly became the obvious choice for me. I do like the 6 front buttons, but most games don't need that anyway...
its basically like the Nintendo Switch, either you can carry it around or you can place it down, plug in a controller and a bigger screen, sit down and play games with friends :)
@@MoreTechSir My first one is currently a pihole on my network. It was originally a retro gaming console and now is a network DNS ad blocker. It's amazing how many things we can do with them.
Really cool, but I was always more of a psp gamer and . . . Oh holy crap there's a horizontal one coming out in a week and a half! Such a cool thing to show off and definitely gonna keep my eye on this.
@@CyberCPU oh yeah totally, I don't think you would need a whole second video on that. I grew up with a game boy, but that wider, Psp/game gear/switch style wide handheld is just my jam. And seeing people make cool things with raspberry pies is quite fun.
I remember having the original gameboy as a kid. And I had a gameboy color when i was between 18 to 20 i loved pokemon is it worth getting one of these? I have a raspberry pi 4 sitting around, I admit I don't use it much, but this product looks really good.
I like the pi boy as well but im willing to sacrifice button for that God awful look on top of piboy, I like the updated retroflag dock station. Just hard the find a cm3 these days
by chance i received a video of you, no idea how youtube even shows videos. Normally only the major international channels are shown. anyway... i like your way of making videos and your content. Leave the subscription there, greetings from Germany
Even though I don't play retro games now .. like I used to.. btw sir have to tried to play Java games? It would be very nostalgic haha. Love you and your videos sir. Stay safe. ❤️
I'm not much for putting stuff like that together, so I would buy one already put together. I looked on their Web site and it says it requires games. So where you get the games? It play regular Gameboy games?
hey mate do you have links for the heat sink and retro pi copper you used? I'm not too tech savvy but recently bought one of these already assembled and with games so I wanna put the cooling on it like you did :) cheers
I bought a heat sink set made for the raspberry pi 4 I'll just have to file down the processor one until it's a thin shim, better than nothing right? also is the fan on your device loud? mine sounds like it's turning into a plane and about to take off, and makes a shaver buzz sound when I shake the device, not sure if that's normal...
@@CyberCPU hey so just sharing some research I've done, you can replace the fan with a better quality pimproni one that's a straight drop in, if you turn the fan 180degrees to the wires route up on the opposite side of the top hate board you can fit a 6mm heat sink to the CPU chip, and there are some awesome ways to add extra ventilation to the back also to keep this thing cool. It's definitely my favourite handheld for sure
Retroflag - you have older version why?I like to see case like this and you put inside lattepanda or some x86 - x64 small board - you have wii-u,ps2 + more stuff to emulate...I like retroflag gpi case 2 - just clip cm4 - install scripts and you´r done...I like to see retroflag gpi case 3 - with joystick controll and better switch to external display - with batocera i need reboot or sometimes change video output...
The new XRS IS WAYYY BETTER i just sold my piboy dmg with rpi4b 4gb for $270 for the XRS model idk why the old classic gameboy case wasnt doin it for ne lol

Cool mod. That was definitely one of my biggest issues with the Piboy. I wish they engineered some kind of a heat sink like the NESPi case has.
Awesome! Where can I see this modification?

you can use a pi zero 2 in the gpi case as well for a bit of extra power

Is that the latest version? I saw the one on their site which have the print of Experimental Piboy BMG below the screen.
I want all this power in a sega nomad encasing.

For hand helds though hands down id have to say the new steamdeck dual boot with windows and steam OS OR the nvidia shield tablet or portable

The copper shim came with a Pi case I bought at some time. I didn't use it because I typically use active coolers so I had it laying around.

does PiBoy DMG have L3/R3 buttons?
Love it
Will it work with a vman or Rick dangerous image or any other custom image?
Not sure, never tried. However, it's just a Pi4. So as long as you can get the display and controller working, you should be able to use any image.
Can you run Linux apps on this, like a web browser?
