Yeah exactly, that was actually the bike I thought/was hoping we were going to get when I heard there was a new 890 bike coming out a couple of months ago =(
I would seriously empty my wallet for a bike like that if KTM ever built it. A much heavier (23kg more than duke 890), less powerful Duke on stilts I am not at all interested in.

@@mcbrite What do you mean, the difference between what ? The 890 SMT and a bike like a 890 SMC-R ? Or is your question what the difference is between the 890 SMT and the 890 Duke R ? ✌
Cost $1000+ USD more than the 890 adventure R but it's essentially the base 890 adventure with a SM wheel kit and some minor cosmetic/software changes. Not sure what KTM is thinking in the pricing department on this one.

Suspension components are quite a bit better I think. That’s probably where the price is. Got a better dash than the duke also but I can’t remember what the adv has from memory.

Money that's what they are thinking know they will sell CF Moto as the base entry level bikes in their dealerships so the can inflate the prices of all KTM products marketing and publicity will rocket sky their sales

So the chassis is realy good. But how is the engine… “only” 105hp.. I have the original SMT… is it worth it to buy this one? Or will it disappoint??
Dude keep your original SMT for the moment, this bike will disappoint you. KTM is probably making a new LC8c engine as we speak and there will be new better bikes soon. Just be calm and keep your bike until something better than this comes out. At least go out and try this 890 SMT for yourself and you will see for yourself that you will only be disappointed.

Impressive bike, I know cost is relative but I simply can't spend that much money.
There are videos on the web of a version with the classic low fender. But on the website it is not configurable. How can this be explained?
high fender is standard. low fender is optional.

I would love to keep my SMR but there are no great LED Headlights, yeah Bulb chance is pne, but I would love to have one with day drive running light

@@JOA-S yep but there’s a difference from what the factory says and the true feeling you know, I just wanted to be sure since I’m undecided between this one and the e 890 adventure, but this is really dope I really think I’ll go with this one 😂
And I think the bigger windscreen could screw a bit the proportions but idk maybe not

@@JOA-S i have had a 390 adv for 2 years and never done off-road, I’m also not really a fan xD that’s why, at the same time the adventure could be more stable in the long straight roads
@@BombaroloChannel maybe go for it then or the s version, maybe look at the 850gsa? its way more road oriented than the ktm but more top heavy. the SMT would probably be the most fun though :D

Sorry, das ist eine der emotionlosesten Probefahrten hier auf YT. Aber so kennt man halt die Franken. Gelacht wird nur 1x im Jahr und das max. im Keller. Motorradfahren ist nach dem Bumsen die 2. schönste Sache im Leben. Da sollte ein bissle mehr Gefühl und Emotion rüberkommen...
This seems boring. When I heard something new with the 890 engine was coming I was really hoping for a 890 SMC-R that would be lighter than the 890 Duke just like the 690 SMC-R was lighter than the 690 Duke.
The 890 SMT just seems like a 890 Duke but with worse handling and less power, an adventure bike with street tires =(
Of course the video creator 99999Daan had a lot of fun on the bike, he got invited by KTM to go ride a new bike on some amazing twisty roads in Sardinia, who would not have an amazing time doing that? That would make almost any bike feel amazing. The question is, does that make the bike very good ? I think not, would he have an even greater time if the 890 SMT was switched out for a Ducati Hypermotard 950 for example that costs the same or maybe even is a bit cheaper than this overpriced KTM ? I promise you, he would have a much greater time on the Hypermotard =)
Even though I obviously think the bike is a big let down, I liked the video because of the amazing views and roads.
It depends how you look at it. The Hypermotard is probably more fun for small corners, but on the other hand it is far from a touring bike while the KTM is quite capable in that field.
If there was an SMC version, it would be quite close to the Ducati. It all depends on what one prefers. SMT is interesting to me because it is between large touring motorcycles such as the 1290 SAS and smaller super moto models. I rode the demo model for a full day and I am very impressed with the bike. An extremely capable motorcycle for all conditions. Far more fun than the 1290SAR I drive, and up to 160km/h I think they pull very similar but braking and handling is much easier.
@@OverLordkv Hey man! I have also tried the bike some more since I last wrote. I am still disappointed about the de-tuned 890 engine.
I directly realized that this bike has the 100hp 890 adventure engine in a street bike. That is just plain stupid by KTM not to put the 120 hp 890 Duke R engine in to this bike since it is marketed as a loony supermoto touring bike instead of the de-tuned adventure bike engine in it.
I think however KTM will bring out a 990 SMT further down the line, however that depends on sales among other things, I talked to the guy at KTM where I tried the bike and he said they have not been selling that well.
I was not that surprised.
However if they make a 990 SMT with a peppy street engine from the 990 duke / 990 Duke R in it with 120+ horsepower that would make this a bit more exciting I think they will be on to something as I agree with you, the concept of a touring supermoto is kind of cool 👍 It is just in my opinion and others I have talked to "not there yet".
@@mathias6423 let's not lie, with this appearance it would be hard to sell even if it had 150hp 🤪 KTM needs to seriously work on the design if they want better sales. Also, this segment has potential, but there is still room for improvement. In particular, this model, as a touring motorcycle, cannot possibly pass with the original visor, and on the other hand, the tank is small, so the range is meh, especially when driving sharper. With a stronger engine, we would be at the gas station more often than on the road 😀
I certainly hope that they will continue to develop this model, and I will probably be looking forward to this version soon. With de-cat and ECU tuning I think it will be decent in the end.
