I got to see Papas Fritas live totally by accident when they supported the Flaming Lips in Birmingham (UK).. I had never heard of 'em and they totally blew me away.. It was around the time their first CD was released.. I met Keith Gendel the bassist afterwards, and he gave me his miling address so I could send him one of my CDs!! (I'm a singer songwriter).. A Great band.. wish they'd get back together..
In addition to this being a great song, this is really a stunning fucking video. It's really beautiful, and fits the music perfectly. I had the good fortune to get wasted on the Tufts Campus while in college and bash away on their equipment for a while in the basement where they practiced. Some things you don't forget.
Just came back to say what's a decade on a lifetime ;) Anyway, that little story line, the woman pacing, the other guy dressing up and shaving, I just love it. Music as fresh as ever, even if it's another decade older :P
I had this same thing happen to me, except it was my wife, not my girlfriend. For some reason, this song made me feel better. I liked that it gave both sides. It helped me understand the pain and loss I was going through, to understand why she could do that to me.
There's a new coloured version that shows a lot more, tho I absolutely prefer this one ! Forgot whether the original footage was featured in there. Google it up !
They updated with a new coloured vid Erhh. . . Very nice. But nothing beats the original b/w Leaves to the imagination, got rid of what was too filled in
Good song. Missing something. Chord structure during the part of, "Why do you make up all these stories?" should be similar to "Plans sorta changed up for the weekend." Otherwise it seems a bit thin... just my pref.
Excellent band and song. But the video does a disservice to both--low budget, annoying acid trip. Seriously. Children must have been the creatives in charge. The song is way too good for the "video."
I've been searching this song all my life...
Found this song by chance recently, wow, what a sweet voice the drummer has!! Excellent song & duet :)
Great band. Great video. Come back Papas...
Absolutely one of best songs of this era - still so fresh!
Fifteen years it took for me to find this song, finally. Thanks Dentyne Ice for good music in 1998! :o
I thought that commercial came out in 2003, and this song 🎵 in 2000.
*Still dig this track. Happy Easter, all.*
A gorgeous tune and a gorgeous vid.
Still awesome after all these years;)
I heard about this song because of the hear music vol 4 I bought from Starbucks years ago.

I’m very sorry that happened to you.
@@comicgirl267 Thanks
Rarely heard of song. My dad had a mixed cd when I was a kid. Never forgot the name name lol. Cool beat. Good harmony
I would totally love to see what the reference footage for this vid looked like. :)
Yeah I was thinking the same!
I wonder if it still exists.

Freshman college memories! In Ateneo de Manila. First blush with indie music.
The meoldy reminds me of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. I get both stuck in my head simultaneously when I hear one or the other. Love this song
+Robert Warf Melody or rhythm? Cuz the rhythm part is also pretty invocative of Billie Jean as well.
Yeah definitely meant the rhythm haha.
I heard a song called Means by this band. Anyone know where I can find that?
Google is your friend
this song is sooo gooood:X:X:X:X
@Simplesidad yeah, fried potatoes, but also a reference to the term "pop has freed us"
love the solo at 01:55!
One of my favorite guitar solos ever!!!! I wish there were guitar tabs for it.
You can tell this comment is very old since the timestamp is not in blue lol

Technically Fried Potatoes
@@MrToddling More pertinently, as in "Pop Has Freed Us."
Buena recomendación de @scannerfm ..
Negitas :D
the indie-pop sellouts!
Wait, how so? Is there more than the dentyne commercial? Just that alone wouldn't seem to be enough to label a group such.
Si
For me Marc Almond & So won a thousand times, sorry
NEGAS!!! Crei que seria el unico c:
Que tiene que ver negas con esto? O porque las referencias?
en que video de negas se escucha esta cancion? O habló de ella en un podcast?
Who else just typed in "papas fritas"
Negas
sounds a bit like billy jean
Like si veniste por negas

This goes to the one who got away... The girl in the dentine ice ad 😄
I never said she got away from me.
