I met another you tuber on a cruise this year, and tried to pick his brain, but the last thing he wanted to talk about was you tube. I appreciate you giving us this rough sketch of how this works. Thank you!
it's tough to talk with someone about this....especially if they are at the level that I am here. There's so much knowledge that's acquired over the years that it's difficult to explain in less than 3 hours or more....and it's true...when we go on vacation.....it's time away as much as we can take it!
love to watch i am 66 years old and garden .raise chickens and hair sheep but couldnt do a you tube video would not know how to start and too old to try it now ,,,,you do a great job keep it up and thanks much
Came over from your last video and wanted to thank you for the encouragement. Keeping up the hope our channel will continue to grow and are thankful foe big channels like you being open to share the successes you have had. See you soon at TIP.
Thank you I just bought my 7 Acre Farm and plan to start a homesteading channel. This was exactly the information I needed to know I was on the right path
Interesting video indeed. I'm an entrepreneur at heart, guess that's why I ask so many questions when I shouldn't...lol. It's easy to sit back and watch videos and offer advice and question. I'm guilty for sure. Advice incoming....advertise your beef as grass fed grass finished if no grains are ever given. The carnivore/keto folks look for that type of meat as I do. Also, I can't find you on Twitter as it says your account doesn't exist. I only use Twit and YT. Have a blessed day !
That's awesome! Been here since you did the pigs old time processing and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. Farm has come so far since that video it's amazing
Josh - great video. Thanks for being honest and transparent. I have been watching since we added chickens at the outbreak of COVID19. Your channel was one of the first ones that popped up when I did a google search about raising chickens. I even made a few things for the chickens from your videos. Now I just watch to be entertained as well as learning a few things. -Ed.
While I already knew your income was pretty much social media I really appreciate you putting it out there like that. Lots of people still don’t understand a person can make a living doing that. It’s a new age of entrepreneurship and honestly I don’t see how it can do anything but get bigger and better. So many people are sick of the crap that’s on tv and UA-cam offers sure a wide variety of entertainment no matter what you’re into. Thanks for sharing that!
I lost it with the chicken naming at the end😂😂😭 Mike Tyson bahaha. Thanks for all you do Josh! It’s incredible how much value is in the knowledge you share with us folks on a regular basis. God bless! 🇺🇸
appreciate the transparency. i’ve learned a lot about spending money from your channel, lol. seriously though, has helped me not waste money on the farm on things that don’t work. building a few thousand feet of kentucky 4-board fence right now and staining it with wood defender.
Appreciate your honesty and forthrightness Josh. I’ve been watching you for years. I think reason people have been asking this question for a long time is because people understand you can’t go out and buy 160 acres and spend the kind of money you do (tractors, equipment, watering systems, fences, barns etc) by selling a small amount of cattle. Most of us understood all along that UA-cam and social media was supporting this operation. Don’t get me wrong, you spent tons of time and effort in producing video content and that alone is a full time job alone. I respect you putting out this video and I appreciate your work ethic and entrepreneurship!! Keep living your dream!!
Josh, your vision and dedication / perseverance and hard work are inspirational. You are talented with the videos and the educational content - which has no doubt, impacted many in positive ways! You've earned everything that you have! Great video and thanks for sharing your perspectives!
Good work! As a fellow NC farmer and someone who earns a full time living in agriculture people don't really understand the sacrifice you make to keep a channel like this going. Something stuck out to me, your home! Society today is absolutely not willing to sacrifice to get were they want to go! They want it and want it now! Have to have new big house, new vehicles in driveway etc. Nice work, enjoy the channel!
@Stoney Ridge Farmer WOOOOOOO! I've enjoyed watching you grow. IIRC the first video I saw was when you, your dad, and your naval aviator brother in law bought, scalded, and butchered hogs. (You also hung a drone up in a tree). I had just gotten home from almost three weeks in the ICU at VAMC Bay Pines and you really helped me pass the time as I recovered. I don't skip ads, it just doesn't seem right. Love you Brother. Keep it up.
Josh, great video. We have a 40 acre farm in NW Missouri but live in Kansas City. I wish I could have done what you are doing when I was your age but social media didn't exist then. lol I'll be retiring in about 2 years so we'll see what happens then. Keep up the great videos!!
Work Smarter Not Harder. I think you cracked the code in the Matrix bro. Coolest part is you shared the code with everyone else. Been fun watching you succeed! Appreciate you brother!!!
Great video Josh. I’ve been watching you for several years now and I am a Patreon supporter. I like all the stuff I’ve seen you do and even though I can be a little mouthy sometimes I still continue to watch and I also still hope that R&R buildings can build you the barn dominium that I think you could really really use now. Keep up the good work
R&R won't be here my brother...they are just way to far away for it to work financially...I'm gonna build it out! Just wait some cool stuff coming in the next couple weeks!!!
Thanks for the insight. Im pretty much just starting out. Although I have no desire for social media. Unless you're doing it no one really understands it. In the next two years Im hoping to be 100% self sufficient, atleast thats the goal. Thanks to you and other creators it helps to have an idea on how you did something and adapt to my needs. Appreciate everything you share along the way.
Super interesting, well done & thank you for full inspirational disclosure. So much work and information for all of us on small scale farms, don't be sorry! ❤👌🏽👍🏼
Great video. Thanks for all the time and work you put in glad you are happy i could not do what you do but glad you put out all the great content. Learn a lot of info for the farm. Thanks.
Still looking to buy some beef from you when you start selling! I hope the usda doesn't start harassing you like they did mr amos miller in pennsylvania. It's ashame how they've harassed him over the years. Keep up the good work sir!
If you have your meat USDA inspected...you can sell it....if anyone thinks the law doesn't apply to them..they are will be sadly mistaken. Do it right...and you won't break the law my friend. I hate it for them....but these laws are in place to protect the consumer...because so many before folks like Mr. Miller didn't do it right and folks got sick. We all have a rule book we have to play by....being Amish doesn't exclude a person from the law of the land. I'm not trying to be rude...I'm just being real. When we break the law, we roll the dice...same as speeding down the highway or running a red light.
Josh, thanks for the financial information. I never knew until recently just how much the UA-cam payments could be for a successful channel. I also watch a few sailing related channels and saw a supposed breakdown of the monthly YT of the ten most successful channels. The amounts were mind blowing. Your channels video / audio, editing, topics, presentations are always excellent. Always entertaining. Your care for your farm environment and animals is inspiring. Thanks much.
...you already explained this to me personally when I asked (I know , very direct, but hey, I am Dutch...) and I understand...good that you try to revive your land!!!😀
Josh very cool I have been watching you for several years now you to me have been awesome, thank you for the gift of Stargazer frying pan and all our great text and although I haven't met you I regard you as a friend. My prayer are for you your farm and a good wife. God bless you brother, David
I also came over from the cattle sell video. While I've been subscribed for years now I just can't catch every video, but I do watch a lot of them. I appreciate the info. I started seriously on my channel when I retired and planned to make it a small income channel, however; my content morphed from dove field planting and food plots to "bing bangs" because the views were so much higher with that content. Unfortunately, that content is not very well liked by the powers that be on YT. I've yet to apply for monetization for fear of being in the spot light and then being shut down. I don't know, but maybe one day I'll see if I can earn a little money in order just to keep making the videos. To date everything I've don has been on my dime and I'm about dimed out.
Fantastic video! It answered a lot of questions for me and created a lot more unfortunately (or fortunately) that I can use to help fix up my 12 acre farm in SE Oklahoma. Like you, I have started with gardening to produce quality food that you can't get in the store. I hope to fix the farm up to grow some crops that will pay off in the next 5-7 years and provide income for family and provide products for the community. Muchas Gracias Amigo for your Insight.
Bringing calves to auction, unless you bring them in the hundreds, is just not profitable anymore. Direct-to-consumer beef sales is where our farmers and ranchers can make a decent living beyond breaking even. If you are reading this and buying Walmart beef instead of checking out some local operations first, please consider doing so! In my area we are averaging about $6 a lb packaged and ready for the freezer available in 1/4, 1/2 or whole cow portions. Buying a 1/4 at a time, about 100lbs, is a $600 investment in good, quality meat I know was raised clean and tatse's amazing, box store beef taste's like crap after you eat the good stuff. Buy local, fill your freezers!!
A great video, Josh. The reason that your channel is of interest is because of the breadth of your content. Farming, animals, dogs (and aren't they well trained), tools, tractors, vehicles, cooking, product reviews, trade shows, farm visits, etc. What's not to like? We own just a few acres and don't have an interest in raising animals, but we cut wood, have a garden, use a tractor and chainsaws, log splitters, mowers, string trimmers, etc. Your video on loading string trimmers has saved me a lot of time and frustration. I grew up in the car business, so the cars and trucks are of interest, too. Finally, if you run into another of those $1,000 Corvette deals, let me know.
Josh - your words of encouragement are truly inspirational. Thank you and thank you for the insight the working and the understanding on what it takes.
I fully understand you i grew up on a farm of a little less acrage everything was natural we grew corn red kidney beans rice lots of pigs and some citrus only the citrus required store bought fertilizer all else was natually done no hybrid corn
I finally subscribed after occasionally watching over the years. Keep up the great work and I don't need to say it, but enjoy the journey as you go. I watched your video the other day when you trimmed a new section you're hoping to turn into pasture in 3-4 years. You mentioned how you were just cutting it because there is no value for baling and feeding which was obvious. Have you thought about borrowing a plow and plow that up, and yes... put down the amended fertilizers (a one time thing) to get it off the ground so to speak and seed it with a mixture of great grazing grasses, some red & white clover, alfalfa and sweet peas. Cut & bale it the first two years. That will give you probably enough hay you won't need to purchase for 3-4 years for the winter months. Then get it in the rotational grazing program and you're possibly getting a jump on a great future pasture. Not sure how much pasture you'll need for the future, but with the extra great pasture, you could possible cut enough from some of the pastures each year in the future. I watch as 'Just A Few Acres' does that and it almost always has. given him enough hay to get through the winters in NY. Except for last year because the summer was drier. Just a thought, ...like I said, keep up the great work of entertaining and training some.
NO!!!!! Plow!!!! NO!!!!! the worst darn thing I ever did on this farm was plowing, discing and planting...the very worst field that I am grazing right now was plowed and planted 7 years ago and it was the wrong thing to do...I have a plow....but grazing is the solution...not breaking the land
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thanks for the update! I was curious because we did that on a 40 abandoned farm we acquired in 1982 in MN. It was weeds, weeds, weeds after about 15 years of inactivity. We made firewood out of 95% of the trees and kept the rest strategically for animal shade. Just a thought since it worked great for us. We actually took 3 years of hay off it and then turned it over for grazing. Haven't touched it since. It got rotational oats straw manure as we fed them in a somewhat confined space during the snow months. The farm of yours is looking great.
Interesting video. Truthfully, I have wondered how you can afford so many Tractors and equipment etc. But you're just being a smart businessman and Entrepeneur. Man, you're busier than a cat covering crap on a tin roof. The land is an incredibly good investment. And you aren't being crushed by a huge mortgage on a house. Well done sir.
Also make a online store where people can buy produce. For example honey 🍯 it can be called Stonys Stinger. You know.. make something! Hot sauce carolina reaper sause... idk.
you can "think" however you want my friend....but I don't raise produce, I've sold honey online and lost my butt....we are a small operation and have limited supply and time, if I had 10 employees and a unlimited budget sure...I could sell produce. Imagine putting $50k into a produce stand or online retail site to earn $40 a day...it's just not a viable enterprise yet buddy. Sitting at the farmer's market all day talking to people about carrots is not what I wanna do for a living buddy
A very good presentation Josh. Amazing how you have improved since day one. 🙂 Gotta give you credit, lots of hard work, sweat and blood. Oh yeah, you ain't no dummy, far from it. Complliment, maybe even the smartest guy I know, and I do know some very smart people. I'm not one of them but I know one when I see him/her and I learn from them.
That is great that you now on way too having wonderful farm, it’s looking real good, keep up the wonderful job you are doing. I hope you have a plan for down road problems. Just don’t know when something will happens. Have someone on standby too help with all those chores.
First time I have viewed one of your you tube videos......and I must say, it is kick ass!! Usually, I am watching gardening type videos, or permaculture videos. This, however, was probably the BEST video I have seen. I am excited to go through and watch more as I have cattle, chickens, goats, gardens, tractors, mowers, trucks. Anyway, thank you!! Woooohhh!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer working my ass off in health care...PA in the ED, with farming/ranching on the side......glad i found your channel, if for nothing else to laugh every time you say "woohhh"...😏
Thank you for sharing your experience and passion. You’ve provided some additional inspiration and possible income streams as we rebuild a homestead. You’re a good teacher and make it enjoyable to watch.
This is pretty accurate , I’m at that point with mine, we direct market around 80 beef, 70 pigs, 5000 chickens, 300 layers . We are at the point finally that I can pay myself a modest salary and also a handful of other people that work on the farm and also our farm store . The easy part is the farming, the hardest part is developing a market for the meat, the amount we produce would fill probably 3 tractor trailers, and it takes an established market to actually move that much product
Smart farming, diversify. It helps to keep things going when the market may be down on certain products. Farmers are some of the smartest people I know, they have to be to make it work.
You are an Entrepreneur. Growing a business with a different approach. Sam Walton would be proud of you. Who knows, maybe someday we'll be shopping at Josh Mart.
While i think it would be fun to have a channel to be able to post my progress on my fixer upper retirement farm, mostly for those who know me already, i cant imagine wanting to do all the editing and constantly working to produce a more professional product or making sur i am on all possible platforms etc. At a stage in life that money isnt a big motivater as it was when i was younger and wanting security. The more i watch the less likely i think I'm getting to actually doing any videos.
Thanks!
Respect Josh; you never once mentioned the negativity that comes to you for your positive intentions. God bless 🙏🏻

I look forward to every video you put out every day ! Your number #1 Josh
investing in yourself and believing in yourself will take you a long way! Keep doing what you're doing amigo!!
Josh.. I think its time for the Stony Ridge Farm Shop. You sell produce to the local populas. Prove the farm is viable on its own.
Finally an honest answer and inspiring message!
Hat tip to all your hard work - farm, videos, health, etc.. Good video.
Phenominal video! Very imfomative, you earn every dime you make, congratulations!

Loved the clip with the water explosion. 🤣 my son and I had watched that video so many times! We laughed endlessly

Woooohhh!
welcome to the channel! Where you been !!!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer working my ass off in health care...PA in the ED, with farming/ranching on the side......glad i found your channel, if for nothing else to laugh every time you say "woohhh"...😏
Appreciate the honest review of your farm income, Josh.
Thank you for sharing your experience and passion. You’ve provided some additional inspiration and possible income streams as we rebuild a homestead. You’re a good teacher and make it enjoyable to watch.
Josh
Keep going
You’ll get there. You are doing a good thing!!
Dig the transparency!!
I been a subscriber since the beginning and appreciate all you share with the world josh 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
They say it takes between 7 and 8 years before you make profit on a first gen farm so you are on the right track for sure
Great channel and great content. I’ve learned a lot from your channel.
You have chased your dreams and succeeded
I am impressed , thank you sir !
Thanks for sharing your life n wisdom
Excellent video
thanks brother!!!!
Love your enthusiasm and channel content. Thanks for explaining-a fellow air force veteran on a mini farm in Tennessee
Thank You for being a Farmer
