I would never get a sewing subscription box simply because I need to really like a fabric, and I have only seen one or two of the fabrics I see people unboxing that I would buy.
Yeah my original idea was to push me out of my choosing blue all the time BUT it's a shame it took a year for me to realise that that was a bit daft and not cost effective - I did like some of the earlier fabrics though. The fabric quality was always good so I could always sell it. I know what you mean about really liking a fabric to sew it - vlog coming on a blouse I've just finished in a BTPD fabric that I liked initially but seriously fell out of love with. Jaycotts have patterns down to £5 the Burda ones until Sunday, they are very good at pattern sales and very quick at delivery. I have the same Simplicity pattern waiting to be made 🤫

Great vlog, I am with you on the subscription from BTPD since day 1 , I think I’ve made 3 garments I wear out of the fabric, I end up cutting fabric up to make toiles … what a waste of money ! I think I got swept along in the “gift in the post” but it’s not a gift really is it. After all we’ve paid £40 for it, I’m coming to the point of stopping it and using the £40 to buy what I really like. Thank you for taking the time to share

Karen, I just love your channel. Funny thing I just cancelled my subscription box, I realised that I am a solids kind of person. I like bold prints occasionally and when I do use them I really want a statement piece that I love in colours that suit me and my wardrobe. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the large amount of fabric I have collected after 12 months...I have used only 1 of the fabrics. I usually wait for the 50% sales on minerva to pick up my big 5 patterns, I have a wish list going until they happen and then go a bit mad.
Nothing wrong with going a bit mad - I'm the same with cake!! if I abstain for a while I could quite easily eat it for breakfast 🤣🤣 and now we've cancelled our boxes we technically have £40 spare every month, you can see the way my mind works! Take care Vicki, happy sewing (and spending) 😂😂🥰xx

Just watched your latest blog, and I too purchase a lot of fabric from pound fabrics including the lovely modal jersey that you purchased and Rachel from stitched up, I decided to try the style arc Jessica dress for that fabric as it is a knit dress, and I love style arc patterns. However the fabric was too thick for this pattern and I ended up hacking a wrap dress, as I didn’t want to waste this lovely fabric. Also bought the blue and orange fabric that you showed for £2 per metre, that is going to be a blouse, again style arc. You can’t beat pound fabrics.

Karen, you should be glad your not in Australia when you want to buy a pattern 🥺 The last time I bought a Simplicity pattern it cost me $23 😢 It was one I saw Viv Mum wearing and it looked lovely on her, not so great on me 😟 We do have a shop that sometimes has patterns on special at 2 or sometimes 3 for $20. I’ve been buying some of the Love Notions Friday patterns that only cost $5 and I find their fit quite good. Have a great week.🧵🪡🇦🇺
Wow 23 dollars is expensive, the big 4 normally retail around the £10.50 mark and sometimes Vogue are a bit more expensive. But the Indi patterns are all around the £20, or £12 for a PDF and then £7+ for printing so you can't win with them. Happy sewing Letitia 🥰xx

Hi Karen. I stopped my sewscription box for the same reasons you described. I have to pay for international shipping, so it was quite pricey. The fabrics are top quality, but if the color and/or design are not good, then it is wasted money.

Love your fabrics. No idea what the pink fabric is but it would make a lovely jacket. Have you seen the Love Notions Metra Blazer. It is so comfortable and not hard to make.
I don't want anything I dont like. I feel it's so wasteful. Especially because I only buy cotton and linen. I've never heard of twiglets, I'm from Pennsylvania...😊
My thoughts exactly Sherridyn (gorgeous name by the way) I have gifted some of the fabric to the swaps table at my sewing social so I don't feel so bad about the wasteful side of it - I know it will have a good home and get made up into something lovely rather than in a case under my bed in my spare room. My son did a summer at a camp in Pennsylvania before he went to Uni the pics were stunning! Take care 🥰xx
