So long as they stay true to the original source material. I can’t wait to see her with the gaang & how well their energies flow together.

I think she definitely looks like Toph. They seem to be pretty good about finding actors that fit the visuals of the role (which is important) but more importantly, she has to have Toph's attitude and personality. Toph is hands down my favorite character so I'm really hoping she delivers. The first season was good but definitely had room for improvement in terms of the pacing, the dialog, some of the acting, the styling of some of the characters, etc. Hopefully they'll make those adjustments and Toph will shine. If they do that, season 2 will be a success.
I think she looks great from some of the screencaps I've seen of her other work. As long as they nail her multi-faceted character and attitude, it'll be fantastic. As for her not being blind, I'm just glad they tried. They openly encouraged blind actors to audition. If the person who fit the role ended up not being blind, that's fine. Especially as you said because of the physical demands of the role. She has to be so completely on her game that the viewers and the characters in the show forget she's blind.
She definitely looks the part and I don't think she should be a 12 year old girl anyway. We already know they're going to have to do time skips to account for these kids growing up so Aang will likely be around 14-15 when season 2 starts and since Toph is supposed to be the same age as him then Toph should also look to be around that age. And fans demanding that she actually be blind is ridiculous. Actors are called ACTORS for a reason, they don't actually have to be what they're portraying. At the very least, I'd like to see the actor have poor vision because you look at the world differently when you can't see. I often "look" at the ground more than most people, I get told I am rude for it but there's no real point to look at someone if all I see is vague blobs of color. Even with glasses, my eyes are terrible. I just hope that in leu of casting someone blind that the actress get that kind of input either from someone on the team or from someone who is blind. She definitely doesn't have to be blind, but I hope that she doesn't end up losing a lot of the body language because she has sight. I LOVE seeing actors speak to people who live lives in the roles they are playing to help them act the role, it usually comes off as much more authentic and the performances end up being a lot more enjoyable for me. Favorite example of this is Wes Chatham in his role for Amos in The Expanse, and how he acts someone with some deeply rooted PTSD and did a whole lot of research for the role. he has SO many micro expressions that convey a lot of internal stuff the character is thinking/reacting to and he ends up being a delight to watch!

So long as the CHARACTER is blind. Toph being blind is part of what makes Toph...Toph. But then again, they removed Sokka's sexism, which was a minor part of his character but a major of the lesson he needed to learn.
While I do think the show could have found a blind actor for the role, or maybe even someone partially blind, I think in this specific case, it can be understandable to cast an actor who isn't blind simply due to the physicality of the role. But then again, I'm not in the blind community so maybe they would feel differently about it. It would have been nice to see more blind actors be involved in big projects to be honest. A blind actress would've been cool, but I understand why it would've been difficult. Not so much for the filming aspect, that can be done with good direction, but rather because that narrows the options way too much. They would've had to find a young girl, who's also of Asian heritage, who's also an actress, who's also a good actress, who's also a native English speaker (unless we want Toph to have a foreign accent), who's also blind. Then 90% of the shots would be a stunt double and you'd be casting someone entirely for face shots only for what? Inclusion? That would be insulting at best, casting someone solely for their visual impairment and having someone else do most of their acting for them.
I agree with you. It would be cool to have someone blind a character with that disability if it wasn't an action focus show. Don't know the actress but she definitely could pull off the look imo.
I actually disagree! Someone who’s visually impaired or legally blind could pull it off and they didn’t discredit completely blind people from joining the cast either they actually encouraged it.
Since there will defneitely be a time jump, seeing as how the actors have aged, I’m guessing there will be a brief montage showing katara and aang training under oaks for a year or two in the north.
I hope she can blend well with team avatar and her chemistry with the other actors are on point. Hope she gets some scenes with Iroh too. I hope they don’t try to make her character all about her blindness making it like her personality is based around that. It’s not.
Honestly! I didn't expect them to Cast a real Blind Girl. If they did then that's nice I guess but honestly... It's a lot easier to act like a blind person. Anyone can act like a blind person. Just look at Donnie Yen! He's not blind in real life, right? But Donnie Yen was casted in Star Wars Rogue One as blind guy. And everyone loves Chirrut Imwei! 😄 So... Just because Live Action Toph isn't Blind in real life doesn't mean she's not blind in the Show. She could still act blind! 🙂
I don't know if someone have thought and shared this before, but the Ember Island Play needs to be added at least in S03 as something creatively different. I was thinking of having the original voice actors of the animation, BUT instead of just playing on stage, they must do voice acting. Because a mere cosplay just looks forced. So the Ember Island Play needs to be some kind of a traditional Asian puppet show. It's different from the animation, but basically the same thing. Then there must be a scene where the live action cast finally meets the voices behind the play. I think this kind of fan service would help elevate the show, especially the original fans.
I wasn't a huge fan turn of the live-action series but there's always room for improvement. The cast has fantastic off-screen chemistry let's see if the writers can let them use that on screen
They could always use special effects for her eyes to make it more realistic. I mean, we know the actress isn't blind, but that's what made Toph's character so amazing. Her disability didn't slow her down one bit. The casting for this adaptation has been excellent so far. Also, Kiawentiio (Katara) said boot camp is hard, and they want the hand movements perfect.
if you go to avatar news and click on the three white lines up top and go to where it says live action ATLA and Scroll down a little bit you will find something that says Simu Liu to play Iroh's son Lu Ten.
I don’t like how they legitimately can’t claim that they were trying to find somebody who was blind in the casting process the person to be blind. Like it seems like this whole thing has been backwards live action they should’ve casted someone that blind but with voice actoring they should’ve brought Jessica Flowers back. In terms of what they need to get right above the characters pretty much everything that she did in the cartoon series that made her when she was. Here sarcastic nature and tough.
She looks just like toph, and I’m sure she’ll do a great job! I do wish Netflix had chosen a blind actress though. There are plenty of blind people and actors capable of embodying physicalities, they just have to be taught differently than a sighted actor. There are blind martial artists, so it’s not like it can’t be done-Netflix just didn’t want to even try, which is disappointing
I understand it would take time to find an actor who is visually impaired, looks the part, and is good at acting, but I’m sure they’re out there. If Switched at Birth can hold a nationwide search for a hard of hearing, ginger actress who looks like a young Lea Thompson (who was already cast as the mother), I’m sure ATLA could have found a young, low vision Asian actress if they wanted
@@cheyennemarie7075 Given how Toph uses earth ending to see. I don’t see the need to also make the actress blind. Because of how capable Toph is. The Avatar gang actually kept forgetting she was blind. Which led to a funny dynamic is the show.
@@Jose.AFT.SaddulToph’s earthbending helps her “see” and avoid obstacles, but it’s not the same as seeing. She can’t read or write, she can’t see airborne objects, she can’t see when on a surface other than earth (such as on wood, metal, or even on Appa)-her earthbending isn’t a perfect substitute for vision. There are such few opportunities for blind actors, it seems like a blind character is the perfect chance to have one. Sure, it’s easier to use a sighted actor, but that doesn’t make it right. The default for a blind character should be a blind actor. There’s no reason to need a sighted actor instead-fights are choreographed, spacing is blocked in advance, poses and physicalities can be taught. Toph was born blind, so there are no before and after scenes, no dream sequences, no reason to necessitate a sighted actor. A vast majority of blind people have some remaining vision, so it’s not like a blind actor would mean total blindness, as far as reasonable accommodation goes. Really any sort of visual impairment or low vision would lend authenticity to the character
My issue with her is similar to the issue I had with the actress playing Azula. Toph is a somewhat jaded character, and based on this actresses past work, I'm not sure that she has the chops to effectively pull off that aspect of the role.
I don't think it's a problem for Able people to play blind people so long as they portray them respectfully take a look at Charlie Cox from Daredevil he did such a good job playing Matt Murdock that he won an award from the American foundation of the blind
As long as they don’t give her the Katara treatment. Goodness, Katara’s characterization (and acting) in Book 1 was so painful to sit through :( Especially since Toph and Katara have tough love friendship in early B2. It’s hard to imagine Toph arguing with Katara if Katara is too passive in the Live action
@@AntoineBandele Yeah, I’m not gonna trust a man like you to care about the female character arcs they obliterated in the first season with your toxic positivity.
i hope the actress really nails toph's attitude., and the make up reflects a healthy layer of dirt (dirty face, messy hair, etc., toph doesn't care about how she looks!)
I’m skeptical that she’s won’t be blind… but I feel she’d be a good fit for Toph. Hopefully the writers improve the writing of season two, season one’s writing was well to put it lightly not so good
Oh I misunderstood. The character will be blind the actress won’t be which I agree is the right call. Still I hope that avatar team improve the writing in season2
They have to get her tomboy tough attitude. And show that she got her skills from the badger moles not her girl power self. She needs to show love of her parents even though she is flat out disobediently running away. And she needs to know and show etiquette when she needs it and only when she needs it. She needs to be Toph. They also need to fix the other characters. They need to get some skill from any mentor. Katara needs to be more boisterous. Aang need to learn other elements. Sokka needs more of his goofy creative self; more jokes and to strategize plans and stuff. Not clown level though.
Let me guess, they will make her dramatic like they did to Katara and Sokka because of “sexism" and “overly sensitive viewers". Watching Season 1 live action made me rewatch the animated series.
Not familiar with the actress but she looks the part. And to have the actress be blind is the stupidest thing I ever heard. How many actors and actresses have been blind in movies. That’s dumb to require she be blind like that character.
Well this is just a small detail but her feet looks a bit too soft and girly. It doesnt looks like she walks barefoot all the time which is a little bumper but i guess the rest is close enough
@@AntoineBandele well thats the least they could do but you can see the difference of people who uses their feet a lot for running, sports, etc. and people who dont. Its just a small detail as said but its clear she isnt that active on her feet. I understand that they focused on other things more like the acting or the appearance but I just hope in a action series with a lot of fighting they wont have too much trouble making them look like martial arts masters
very poor decision. the whole point of Toffs inclusion is that she IS blind and in being so she's able to teach Aang about not relying on his sight when bending elements. that and justifying badger-moles. it's easy to CGI her eyes white to show she's blind but if she's not then it completely destroys the integrity of everything they've built so far. without being blind Toff has no character other than being a spoilt rich brat. quite frankly, if you're not going to so something right then don't do it at all.
I'm a HUGE FAN of the AvatarVerse, but I'm not really a fan of the Live-Action Netflix series, I think some of Characters are a little confusing, I'll probably will watch Season 2 of the series. I think that, they should of had that version of Toph, from that Girl Cosplaying here, in that Short Video, that was made recently.
I want them to start season 2 like it has retconned all the bad stuff from the first season. Just start fresh and set it right. Don't be afraid to make a drastic change in tone and characters. If I'm not hooked in the first few minutes and feel the change, it will be hard to keep watching with an open mind. I think it would be badass of them be like, "oh, you think we don't know what we are doing? Check this out." And the quality of everything is just high from the start. The martial arts, camerawork, storytelling, characters, acting and line delivery. I want them to feel like they are real people on the screen, not the ember island players type of acting. It is almost like I have more suspense of disbelief in the live-action than the cartoon. I pray that by some miracle, they have taken in the criticism and fixed 90% of it in season 2 and season 3 it's 10/10 to its own potential.

Then 90% of the shots would be a stunt double and you'd be casting someone entirely for face shots only for what? Inclusion? That would be insulting at best, casting someone solely for their visual impairment and having someone else do most of their acting for them.
Dope
Diddles!
I agree with you. It would be cool to have someone blind a character with that disability if it wasn't an action focus show. Don't know the actress but she definitely could pull off the look imo.
Definitely got the look.
I actually disagree! Someone who’s visually impaired or legally blind could pull it off and they didn’t discredit completely blind people from joining the cast either they actually encouraged it.
tbh i imagine toph took like kinda waisan but i think she fits toph
Looks wise she can be straight out of the cartoon fantastic casting
Pretty great!
how he gon learn earth beanding when he hasnt even water bended
EXACTLY! LOL
Since there will defneitely be a time jump, seeing as how the actors have aged, I’m guessing there will be a brief montage showing katara and aang training under oaks for a year or two in the north.
That is how they are going to explain that Aang suddenly looks a lot older - he spent a year or two learning waterbending.
@@elisitbon4672 is it a fact that they aren't going to follow the timeline on the original show or are you just assuming
@@lucidmarz3888 fact
So...
Is the earth avatar in works I haven't heard about it in a wile it will release next year so my question is are they writing it/animating it
I wasn't a huge fan turn of the live-action series but there's always room for improvement. The cast has fantastic off-screen chemistry let's see if the writers can let them use that on screen
Always room for improvement.
She isn't in bootcamp... She's in footcamp with the badger moles.
Going to be very hard to beat Charlie Cox Daredevil work as a blind character cause boooooy he made me believe he was blind
I like the fact that she's Asian American.
I want to see Toph shoot a small stone through someone like Yun did to Jianzhu
I love the casting and I genuinely hope she can play Toph well, but season 1 kinda ruined my hopes for the show with the weird story changes
Season 1 definitely dampened my hopes for this to be great. I think it only has the chance to be good at this point.
There still are haters. Nothing is enough for some people. Can't we just agree on something in the world?😂😂😂
There will always be haters. There will always be people who agree with each other. Just depends which corner of the internet you find yourself in.
I was hoping for a 9 or 12 year old. Someone that can contrast her age and size with the power Toph has.
Most important is someone who looks similar in age to Gordon Cormier. And I’d say they’ve done that.
I don't think it's a problem for Able people to play blind people so long as they portray them respectfully take a look at Charlie Cox from Daredevil he did such a good job playing Matt Murdock that he won an award from the American foundation of the blind
As long as they don’t give her the Katara treatment. Goodness, Katara’s characterization (and acting) in Book 1 was so painful to sit through :(
Especially since Toph and Katara have tough love friendship in early B2. It’s hard to imagine Toph arguing with Katara if Katara is too passive in the Live action
I think that had more to do with writing and direction, and less to do with the acting.
Another female character for them to DESTROY…
Love the positive thinking there.
@@AntoineBandele Yeah, I’m not gonna trust a man like you to care about the female character arcs they obliterated in the first season with your toxic positivity.
This is clearly your first time on the channel, it seems.
Avatatthelastairbendertoph🪨🍃🌊🔥
i hope the actress really nails toph's attitude., and the make up reflects a healthy layer of dirt (dirty face, messy hair, etc., toph doesn't care about how she looks!)
They can just put contact lenses of her being blind, along with being barefoot, earthbending power, and aimprovementvifvthe series.
I’m skeptical that she’s won’t be blind… but I feel she’d be a good fit for Toph. Hopefully the writers improve the writing of season two, season one’s writing was well to put it lightly not so good
She’ll definitely be blind. I don’t get what you mean.
Oh I misunderstood. The character will be blind the actress won’t be which I agree is the right call. Still I hope that avatar team improve the writing in season2
Kawaii kawaii
She's 17?! Isn't Toph like 10 years old?!
12
They have to get her tomboy tough attitude. And show that she got her skills from the badger moles not her girl power self. She needs to show love of her parents even though she is flat out disobediently running away. And she needs to know and show etiquette when she needs it and only when she needs it. She needs to be Toph. They also need to fix the other characters. They need to get some skill from any mentor. Katara needs to be more boisterous. Aang need to learn other elements. Sokka needs more of his goofy creative self; more jokes and to strategize plans and stuff. Not clown level though.
Knowing Netflix they’ll probably make her act like her father wanted her to act 😭
What do you mean by that?
@@AntoineBandele by making her “blind, tiny, helpless, and fragile” or by butchering her character like they did with the other members of the gaang.
Netflix tryna catch a hard case showing off a minor's feet this recently after the Diddy drama
Ok, that was pretty funny LOL
Let me guess, they will make her dramatic like they did to Katara and Sokka because of “sexism" and “overly sensitive viewers". Watching Season 1 live action made me rewatch the animated series.
Lol. When Aang didnt even waterbend at all in season 1?
Right!?
They ruined Aang, Katara, Soka. I have little hope for Toph.
She's perfect but I'm really worried that they'll botch toph's character
So long as they don’t water her down. We gucci.
Not familiar with the actress but she looks the part. And to have the actress be blind is the stupidest thing I ever heard. How many actors and actresses have been blind in movies. That’s dumb to require she be blind like that character.
First 😢
Second
@@AntoineBandele love your videos man 🐐
Well this is just a small detail but her feet looks a bit too soft and girly. It doesnt looks like she walks barefoot all the time which is a little bumper but i guess the rest is close enough
You didn't see that grime between her toenails!?
There’s a difference with Toph because she actually can “see” via mystical means.
@@AntoineBandele agreed but her eyes don't work which is why she can 'see' through her bending powers.
I pray that by some miracle, they have taken in the criticism and fixed 90% of it in season 2 and season 3 it's 10/10 to its own potential.
hmmmmm... representation matters
why everytime they use a girl for anng character in live action his a dude
Dissapointed
just hope they dont make toph fat like azula and mai. Cant understand why live action netflix avatar is hellbent upon turning female characters ugly while male counterparts are absolute units.
🙄I thought Toph's actress would have gray or white eyes to symbolize her blindness in the animated show.
Miya Cech may not be blind but I wonder if she has a visual impairment. 1:20 Maybe the creators can use contacts to portray Toph's blindness.
Still could very much be the case. We haven't seen what she'll look like in the show yet. We've only seen her actor headshots.
The first season was garbage….we don’t talk about it enough.
Definitely not garbage. But not good either. I talk more about that here: ua-cam.com/video/jD08ON_w97U/v-deo.htmlsi=HwGEbFr__9hOkJk3
Wrong
My emotions feel like it was garbage by the things they did get wrong but it really is not. It's just very mid and got some high highs and very low lows.
Wasn't it a bad show
Not really, people were just overreacting
Depends on who you ask (like most things). I personally thought it was aggressively mid.
@@A_Beacon_Of_Hope that makes sense, I was actually seeing a lot of reviews of the show, they were ugly.
If actress ain’t blind, Toph shouldn’t be either. It would be very problematic and ableist to think that a blind girl can’t play blind girl role. The live action has already made the best changes from the problematic original, I wouldn’t mind the changing Toph’s character. ❤❤❤
They should have just done Legend of Korra. There's a lot more that can be improved.
People like the Og more than legend of korra.
Business-wise, that would never happen.
