    So far many People here on UA-cam tried to explain how Torque and Power are connected, but couldn't quite do it. But you Sir, you absolutely nailed it! I think this may be your best video so far, it contains just the right amount of information to unterstand the topic, but it's simple enough not to lose the view over the whole topic. The effort you put into these videos is amazing, i really love your new animations especially the ones where you show the engine revs on the chart.

      thank you - I did spot it as a topic that had continued to confuse people a bit so I really wanted to nail it. I'm very happy with the rev sound effects as I hoped it made it easier to interpret the graph and the graphics

    Three weeks ago I had no idea about any F1 rules or even watched an F1 race (or much other Motorsport). I watched your overtaking video and now I am hooked. I've watched all your vids, am posting on message boards, listening to F1 podcasts, playing F1 games and I stayed up far too late (early) watching the Austrian GP.

  • @noer0205
    @noer0205 6 років тому +17

    Hope I'm not nitpicking too much. But I think the example of finding the maximum torque output needs a annotation or alike to correct the example. The gearing is actually tuned to the maximum power output of the engine. In F1 cars it doesn't make much of a difference as they are tuned to have there maximum torque delivered high up in the rev-range. But if people were to apply the method to an engine with max torque delivered at low rpm, they probably won't be able to make sense of it, as the gearing will keep the revs higher than where max torque is delivered.
    Would like to add that, as always, I loved the video and the way you manage to explain these complicated topics in a way that people without a big understanding of the physics can understand. As they say: "The better your own understanding is of a topic the simpler you can explain it to others". So huge respect from here, because you seem to understand these topics very well :)

    This is just for those who want more elucidation on specific physics terms.
    Clarification of definition: Torque is also known as moment(s). It is the result of force x *perpendicular distance* from pivot
    *Perpendicular distance* is important because it explains why pulling a luggage at an angle is easier than just yanking it straight on.

    • @ImaadAnsari
      @ImaadAnsari 6 років тому +1

      Too much torque might have caused the wheels to spin up in the rain, maybe thats why

    • @pablovini98
      @pablovini98 6 років тому +1

      In normal cars, when starting a car in slippery conditions(snow, rain,...), it's advisable to be in 2nd gear so that the wheels don't spin out of control

    • @confuseatronica
      @confuseatronica 6 років тому

      its easier to not spin the tires in a higher gear because the torque at the wheels is lower. It's still totally possible to start in a lower gear and just not give it so much accelerator, but the difference between too little and too much gas is smaller because the torque at the wheels for all throttle positions is higher.
      Especially when I don't think an F1 car "gas" pedal moves even as much as a modern passenger car, which seems to move less than any older car I've driven.
