I have not read A Thousand Splendid Suns. I did read The Kite Runner. I kinda wish I hadn't. It was gut wrenching.
Finally, someone tells me a bit of the plot of The Goldfinch! I've seen and heard the title a million times but could never figure out what it was actually about.
I am a huge fan of Les Mis, the musical. I'm one of those weirdos who sings along (quietly, if it's a live performance) and bawls through the whole thing. I finally read the book a year or two ago. I had a hard time with his endless meanderings and descriptions of stuff that had nothing to do with the main plot. That said, I did like it a lot and I would like to read it again. I'm toying of tackling Hunchback this year. We'll see.
I've never read any Rushdie. I should remedy that.
I have Shogun on the Kindle and have wanted to take the plunge. I generally love long books. But I will confess this one intimidates me.
I also need to reread East of Eden. I had that same edition and now I regret having to sell it when I was broke. Sigh. I enjoyed it but I always have a hard time keeping multigenerational family stories straight. I have to constantly try to remember who is related to who and I miss things. But rereading will be difficult because I have never hated a fictional character as much as I hated THAT WOMAN. You know the one.
Oh, your cat is beautiful! Show him off any time you want. He reminds me of my beloved childhood cat, Timothy. (But bigger.) He hated everyone and scratched me until I bled. But I loved him.

Thanks for joining me! Sounds like we have some similar opinions and tastes!
Don’t be intimidated by Shogun. I was but it’s very accessible and engrossing as long as you know it’s not just a bunch of swordfighting.
A Thousand Splendid Suns is even more gut wrenching.
And glad to give you more info on The Goldfinch. A beautiful character study!
