7:59 - as the official representative and spokesperson of the Eggman Empire I do not appreciate the slander you are putting on the handsome doctor's name. I kindly request you to edit this portion out of the video, or else metal overlord will pay you a visit.
There’s a manga that’s an adaptation of Sonic 1 that was made before release (Spring Yard Zone is still Sparkling Zone in the manga). At the end of the manga is a side story about how Sonic is the flight jacket of a pilot who died trying to break the sound barrier that magically came to life somehow as a cartoon hedgehog. And that’s why Sonic is fast and owns an airplane. The first years of Sonic are fascinating. Like did you know Vector, Charmy, Mighty, Ray, and Amy all predate Tails?
I vaguely knew about that comic but had no clue it was that wild. Also Mighty and Ray predate Tails? I know about that arcade game but had no idea that it came out before Sonic 2. I also probably should have mentioned Vector and Sonic's band (or at least the concept of it) at some point but I mostly wanted to focus on the actual game itself.
@@JustAnotherJakeREAL Sorry, your video was great, I just wanted to share some obscure facts. There is a Japanese publisher called Shogakukan that published magazines for grades 1-6 and each one had its own manga for Sonic. The one for 5th-graders featured art of Mighty, Ray, and Amy in its first issue in April 1992. Charmy debuted a month later in the 4th-grader magazine. The earliest appearance of Tails in any of the mangas is December 1992, which is a month after Sonic 2 released. One of Amy's friends in the manga for 4th-graders is a female fox named Patty who looks exactly like Tails but with 1 tail who debuted in October 1992. Sonic 2 started development in November 1991 and the earliest prototype we know of is from August 1992, so likely all of these characters were designed between November 1991 and early 1992 but who's to say in what order. One more tidbit: there's a common misconception that very different-looking designs for Amy and Charmy are their beta designs, but that's actually not the case. Their final designs debuted in the mangas before those designs showed up. Those weird designs were drawn by a specific artist who just did his own thing with the character designs, lol.
19:08 - for new players who wanna get into Sonic 1 and want it in wide-screen. I highly recommend playing Sonic 1 Forever or a rip of Sonic 1 remaster by Christian Whitehead (which is the exact same thing as Origins but Origins did it worse some how despite coming out almost a decade later). Origins is kind of buggy to play with and isn't really that good of a remaster + very overpriced and opinions on it weary. So it might not be the best way to experience this game for the first time. The fan-made remasters have more options and utility to them and are better maintained because of it. They don't have the coins system though, but Sonic isn't really a difficult franchise at all (sure for children and new players a bit hard sure but you can get through it). Also Origins has a fake Classic mode (which is just the remasters cropped to be 4:9). So it isn't even good for emulating the actual game. Just use a free emulator or buy the Genesis Classics for consoles at least you can't get it on Steam anymore sadly (which fyi makes the game impossible to 100% now). So you're kind of forced to either buy the real hardware (Genesis, the game itself, and of course a TV that can support the Genesis), buy the Genesis mini, buy another collection for another console, or just pirate & emulate it I guess.
Is it a hottake to say that Scrap Brain is better than Metropolis from Sonic 2? Well whether it is or isn't, its my opinion anyway. I'd much rather the hazards of Scrap Brain than those stupid badniks of Metropolis. Ugh I hate those exploding stars. What was that playlist at the end supposed to be? It says it's not available. -------------------- W a i t is this your first video..? If so then wow, it's edited really well and sounds so professional! Nice job! Ok I've just noticed the other channel my bad 😅
This is my first edited video, so I would say yes this is my first official video. My other channel is where I upload streams. As for comparing Scrap Brain and Metropolis, I would say Metropolis is worse. But, the opinion may change.
To unlock Shadow in Sonic 1, you must play the whole game upside down, take no damage, collect the mythical 8th chaos emerald, see knuckles off to war, visit Vector's grave, catch the Mew hidden under the truck, and then find the control room aboard the space colony ark.
That was sort of the point and something I should have made more clear. It's not worth doing, but as a kid I didn't have the patience to even attempt the normal path
I clicked on this video mostly to make a dumb joke about the similarities between our usernames, but this was a good video and very nice presentation Even if this is the first video on a new channel, my guess is this isn't your first rodeo I look forward to seeing more in the future, especially more reviews or thoughts on Sonic stuff
Thank you very much for the praise. Truly means a lot. While Sonic stuff isn't going to be the main focus (this won't be a Sonic channel), expect to see a lot of the blue blur as I really truly want to cover every game in the series. PS - radical username
13:16 okay this actually gave me a good laugh
"Sonic 1 was never designed with the spin dash in mind"
Hey! Thats my catchphrase!

The collidescope levels would give me massive motion sickness.
Uhh.. I think I'm stupid, what does that mean and what level?
Just started, when do we get to Shadow?

@JustAnotherJakeREAL bet. Found it without a guide. Thanks though!
