I enlisted as a 68W. Ended up failing the NREMT. That will fail you out of the whole course unfortunately.
Ironically, the Navy doesn’t require that class like the Army does so I could have been a Corpsman.
32 weeks at Fort Sam and never once got to leave post.
Medic school is the second hardest school the US Army has to offer, it’s not for the faint of heart and you Must Study Hard.
The best people were the ones that were EMTs at home or firefighters.
You will run everyday like someone else’s life depends on you (because if you make it, it most certainly will.)
It was a dream of mine to become “Doc” to others. I have a few friends that made it but they really went through some 💩.
I reclassed to a 88M and got to spend 2 years in Europe, drove 55,000 miles across 10 different countries.
I don’t have any regrets other than not being able to pass that test. Pretty big direct hit to the ego there.

If a person is willing to shield a wounded soldier with his own body when treating him then yes.. they may have what it takes to consider being a combat medic

68W’s are always covering our backs man,let me tell you, as a 1221 (Breach Engineer,or just known as a breacher.) I get pretty close at a door one time, they had a 30-30 rifle, trying to hunt rangers instead of animals? What is this? Anyways, got shot around my right clavicle, doc wiped it with gauze, but,I already had internal bleeding, they hooked me to an IV,treated me with O2 Therapy,I was decommissioned for a short time, but I came back.
