My coworker told me a few months ago of a butcher who has a collection of Silver Age books. I went to his shop and he gave me a great deal that included FF 48, ASM 50, X-men 50. This is what I think makes this hobby so much fun!! Happy hunting!!
Dennis is the owner of that last spot. He deals with rock posters as well. Nice guy. He sets up/attends Berkeley Con. Ask him to tell you his story of when he left his FF 1 at a local Oakland restaurant in the 60s! Nice Spideys Reg!

Wow. Thank you for the kind words bro. I like having some variety to keep it interesting and FUN. I’ve hit shops in several different parts of the country and I must say that we have it retry good here. Our prices can be a little higher but the inventory is solid if you know where to look. Stay tuned because I’ve found so amazing honey holes in the last couple of weeks.
Don't write off Escapist. They are quirky about the upstairs but I picked up some Gems from there when I was in town last year. Upstairs is the place to go.
Great video Regie!! You looked like you were having fun. Thanks for sharing it with us, but why don't you share how much you bought them for and the grade?? Seems like we could all get something out of that!!
Thanks bud. I always have fun when I’m out there. This is a fun hobby and I try to remember that regardless of the outcome. :) I can probably do a better job of talking about grade but I never discuss price. It’s just not my thing. Sorry.

A few I never go by because of customer service or just the vibe I get when I go in. Incredible to me the lack of customer service in some shops. I used to live in Fredericksburg, VA where we have tons of old thrift type stores that often had comic shops in them. I think maybe that's the situation of your first bookstore, they probably sublease space to the comic shop owner, who keeps different hours. He doesn't want the normal bookstore clerks handling his valuable backstock, but he can put the new releases out with the rest of the books. That would be my guess on that situation, you should give it another shot.
Hey man, I did the same thing when I was in San Fran last fall. That last shop had potential, but you were not allowed to go through the boxes yourself...had to ask the clerk specific books, then they would go look for you. Not really the kind of hunting I like. There is a major shop in Sacramento that I hope to hit on the coming weeks. Where do you live? Any good shops in neighboring states? Any local dealers?
I live in Massachusetts not far from the start of Cape Cod - I hate going up to Boston so I usually stay close to home and we are really lacking good shops - that’s the main reason why it took me so long to come back to the hobby but you and Comic Tom are my favorites on UA-cam and you talked me into it
@@RegieCollects I am currently in Chicago. There are a lot of good stores here, however, there are also a lot of people like us who will hunt for things. On one hand, my LCS gets almost every issue published, even from the smaller houses and always has a lot of hard to find variant covers, which I am grateful for. But, on the other hand, it is very challenging to find a diamond in the rough. New York is the same way. I feel like it is a fair trade off to be honest, and you can't have everything.

Thank you bud. I appreciate that. I'm glad that you're enjoying the content. I'm not much of a haggler. I evaluate the condition/price and make a purchasing decision based upon that. I struggle with the idea of haggling on price the first time that I walk into a shop. I've found that most owners will actually offer discounts or will drop sales tax once they get to know you a little better. That's part of the reason that I spend time talking with owners about my collection and their inventory. My goal is to go beyond the transaction relationship. I think that everyone has a different style and they have to do what works best for them. Does this help?
@@RegieCollects oh yeah this definitely helps I was just asking because I try to find deals to I know most of my comic shop guys already in my area I've been collecting for around 35-40 years and a lot of times they tell me how much they got the book for or the collection for but I also grade the book myself then I go to haggling based on that and I go by Overstreet grading process to most of the time I'll get a discount sometimes not LOL
Sounds like you have a good relationship with your guys. I love shops that are transparent. Sometimes you score and sometimes you don't. LOL. What part of the country are you located in?
It's a little bit funny to because I actually help out a buddy that owns a comic book store and I do quite a bit of grading and pricing for him as like a second fun job lol
Hey Reggie I was thinking about doing the same thing hitting up the escapists I live in Antioch thought about hitting that up a couple weeks ago but I end up going to Stockton and checking stores out there are you from the Bay Area you should come check out flying colors in Walnut Creek they got some back issues but they've always got a bunch of the newer books everybody's looking for
I am actually editing a video now on Flying Colors as we speak. I was there yesterday. This video will probably be posted in about a week or so. :-) If you go to Escapist you may want to go about an hour after they open. I guess that is when the upstairs is open. You should also check Fantastic Comics. The guy Yule (owner) has an AMAZING shop. I called it Fantasy in the video but it's actually Fantastic (brain fart).
@@RegieCollects Awesome thanks for the tip! Maybe ill see you there sometime. Did you know that the owner Joe Fields is the creator of Free comic book day?
Hey, Reggie. Been to all those places before. The escapist shop is a little strange. Same situation had to wait for someone to assist upstairs. Some ok back issues. Fantastic comics is really not for me. Not much in the way of back issues. I'm wondering did you get those books in the way back. Also the owner at comics and posters, his name is Dennis, he's totally cool. Old school. Maybe I'll see you at the Berkeley comic con, in April. Best James
Dennis seems cool. He was just pressed for time that day. He has some decent inventory on hand and even more offsite. I’m hoping we can make some magic at some point. Fantastic Comics was solid for me. The owner Yule (spelling) has some decent stuff in the back area. Their wasn’t much of front but I’m in the habit now of just asking for the good stuff right from the door. Lol. They had some decent inventory of X-men and ASM-a little less now because I’ve hit the shop twice. :) I’m not sure that I’ll go back to Escapist. I found the entire thing strange. 🤪😂 Hopefully I see you in April.

@@RegieCollects I actually live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
It's a little bit funny to because I actually help out a buddy that owns a comic book store and I do quite a bit of grading and pricing for him as like a second fun job lol
My favorite part is also the hunt! 💪🏽👊🏽👊🏽💯
Nice books
Nice video, keep em coming :)
Count on it.
If you go to Escapist you may want to go about an hour after they open.
Yes. I had heard that. I realized that I had not met him before. Maybe one day.
I’m not sure that I’ll go back to Escapist. I found the entire thing strange. 🤪😂
Hopefully I see you in April.
I love your personality
Thank you Toy. I appreciate you watching and commenting. :-)
