this car is a special one , some railroads had dome cars but the east coast railroads with all the tight clearances especially on the nec couldn't use them , I believe the B&O or the C&O had low level domes , I can only imagine how cool it is to travel in this car , I lift my glass to this gentleman too for keeping it going
You are so lucky to experience a private Pullman car. I would take Amtrak from Hartford CT to Rochester NY on the Lake Shore Limited. Same route as the old 20th Century Limited. We arrived in Rochester at 3:30 AM if on time. In the early 80's it was only $50 more to upgrade to a 1st class sleep compartment. These sleepers were from the art deco period and a piece of art. In Mid 80's I took my girlfriend and her parents back to Rochester. I bought adjoining cabins. We had the folding wall opened and it was like having 1/4 of a car to yourselves. An absolute great time with 1st class service from the crew.
Thank you so much for your videos, and I especially appreciate your voice narrative...so much better than having to read small print captions. I've been riding Amtrak since it's beginning in 1972, when hostesses pampered riders...passengers played cards or played the piano in the lounge cars, as well as enjoying live entertainment, movies and bingo scheduled on every trip. Freshly cooked gourmet meals were offered and all the rooms and roomettes still had that "new room" smell to them. The Silver Meteor from New York to Miami was my favorite, as my family and I would visit relatives living in Florida, several times a year. Keep up these wonderful videos...they are a treasure! Let's hope videos like yours will resurrect that old Amtrak catchphrase "Tracks Are Back"!!!
Based on my experience working for Amtrak from 1962-64 I would have to say that your comment re 'freshly cooked gourmet meals' is bordering on the realm of fantasy.
@@jslasher1 I didn't start riding Amtrak from New York to Miami until 1972, when in those days the food was just about the best part of the 24hr. Journey!
What a pleasure it would be to ride in this car, or even to live permanently in one. I do remember riding the B&O to Cincinnati Ohio in the dome car. That was so much fun.
Appreciate your video very much, being a Midwesterner, I have used the Missouri River Runner as well as the Lincoln Service. Your sharing of Kansas City Union Station was great, considering what Amtrak uses, in relationship of scale of the station building. I have had the privilege to ride a Pullman, private railcar as well. Truly, an experience!
Would have loved to have seen more of the car and more of the ride. A little too much freight traffic at the beginning for such a short video about a passenger car.
I was also disappointed that we didn't get to see the sleeping accommodations. Since watching this I have been able to find some other videos on UA-cam that show a little more detail. There are five bedrooms, A through E. E is directly behind the galley. The bedrooms are typical of Pullman cars with a sofa that makes into a bed, and a pull-down upper berth above. A very small and functional room, not as luxurious as the rest of the car. Was not able to tell if the bedrooms have private bathrooms. At the head end of the car where there is a jog in the hallway, is a stainless steel door to a shower compartment, and on the opposite side, right by the door at the end of the car is a unisex restroom.
The owner must have been pretty far up the railroad totem pole to be able to afford the car and it’s refurbishment along with the fee’s that Amtrak charges to take it somewhere
Excellent video of this one of a kind car! I would definitely be interested in more information on how to book a ride, but did not see the link. Any info would be appreciated.
Amfleet cars are my favorite I will be sad to see them go personally I think they should keep the design of the amfleet car on the outside the same and just modernize the interior the classic exterior of the amfleet coach that's what I grew up riding in and enjoy seeing it is an iconic coach
Amtrak refuses to handle private cars on the Surfliner trains here in California. That caused both of the families I know who had cars to have to sell the cars.
The guy has enough money to rent a private car, but he has a bottle of Ole Roy Salad Dressing from Walmart on the table. The only wealthy people that shop at WM have the last name Walton.
WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. A sixteen minute video puffed out to fill in time to make the video longer with just under FOUR & a HALF minutes of Private Train Car Experience! at the end.
I've been a Amtrak engineer for a proud 35 years now and this is one of my favorite stations to be at and been on this private car few times
Spectacular car... I've ridden private cars for over a year since 2004 and this one is in a class by its self... Thank you... Joe Ray Skrha

I used to ride this car on the Silver Meteor when I was a kid.

Beautiful! Yes that is the way to go on overland trips! Pricey, but we all only go around once in life!
I thought Amtrak stopped towing private cars. I'm really glad to see that this is not so.
Thanks for sharing this piece of railroad history. What a beautiful car!
I was lucky enough to ride in the Dover Harbor a few years back. A great time and memory.
Private cars were like the Gulfstream jets of their day.
Beautiful Car, excellent narration, thank you!
Super nice video, consider yourself lucky you have a chance to take a ride in history. Beautiful car!
Well done, excellent video! Thanks for sharing this experience, just subbed your channel !

I thought Amtrak no longer allowed a private car to be attached? Did they change back?
Nice update you put out. Like it very much.
Thank you for the the private car experience. It was great.
How much you think it’ll cost to take this from LA Cali to Dallas? Like $2k - $3k?
Amazing!❤😊😂
Well done ,and thanks !
Would have loved to have seen more of the car and more of the ride. A little too much freight traffic at the beginning for such a short video about a passenger car.
AWESOME VIDEO !!!
Great video, Pete! Now I want to take both jaunts from KC to STL and also STL to Chicago.
Really well done.
Nice job! Thank you.
Rare car seen it and other Seaboard & ACL cars . ACL E unit NCTM awesome hear it running .
Thank you !
That looks really cool!
I LOVE the Western Auto sign ! Was that a store , or , was it a local company office ?
That was an incredible experience on riding on the Seaboard’s Hollywood Beach private car, where can I find that information in order to book it?
What was the bedrooms like on it how is the bedroom set up and how many bedrooms are there

Great ride, but how did you snag a ride?
Fortunately this private car is of the steel-wheeled variety
Is that a good or bad thing??
The owner must have been pretty far up the railroad totem pole to be able to afford the car and it’s refurbishment along with the fee’s that Amtrak charges to take it somewhere
excellent and thanks
Thank you for your video.
I would love to ride the private Seaboard passenger car.
This can only be experienced by the Special Few.
Very nice 👌
Thirteen minutes in and I'm STILL waiting for a video about private train cars...This was everything but-
Excellent video of this one of a kind car! I would definitely be interested in more information on how to book a ride, but did not see the link. Any info would be appreciated.
He gives the owner’s info at the bottom of the description. I’m guessing you’d have to directly reach out to the guy.
@@KGVB757 Thanks, I see it now, just had to click on the down arrow ⬇️.

I was watching that video when this vid came up in my recommendations
That consist from STL to CHI is NOT the same consist that runs between KC-STL. Missouri has its own two consists. As does Illinois.
Amtrak refuses to handle private cars on the Surfliner trains here in California. That caused both of the families I know who had cars to have to sell the cars.
That’s unfortunate. The Surfliner trains aren’t really condusive to transporting private cars as they are double ended trainsets.
The guy has enough money to rent a private car, but he has a bottle of Ole Roy Salad Dressing from Walmart on the table. The only wealthy people that shop at WM have the last name Walton.
It’s just ok
Sadly the Anderson area killed the private cars and Gardner is just as bad

calm down old man
😭 Go cry somewhere else!
