I got a pair of these a little over 3 years ago and they've been my 'daily driver' shoes the whole time unless the weather is too cold or I'm lazy and want to wear sandals. I'm fully aware this all sounds like copium, but they're comfortable and they've held up great. I blew through one of the inserts after a year or so and they sent me new ones for free. The elastic is fine, the upper is fine, the sole is fine. I'm a bigger dude (6'1", ~230 lb) and I honestly thought I'd destroy them, but they only have light wear on the outsole. I've also never felt like the soles were too hard or anything. I knew I was mostly paying for the label and was mentally prepared to be disappointed, but they're fine.
I have to confess, the woman in the blue dress on the thumbnail drew me in on this one! Still, fantastic analysis, (as always). I appreciated the history review, as I never heard of Balenciaga. The steel ball drop test which analyzes coefficient of restitution and comparison to other models, durometer hardness test on the outsole and midsole, flame test to identify materials, material thickness measurement, eyelet pull force to rupture test, the smoke breath ability test, and of course the dissections combined with the knowledge of all things shoes really set these videos apart. Again, lots and lots of analysis and fantastic job! I love watching every week to see whats going to be next.
@@TheFrenchmanCooks Ha, good question you ask here! In this case MY TRUTH is, that from a certain price point (at least in the fashion business, where I happen to work in…) you just pay for the Name. Prestige that is. For instance, I sell shoes at a 350-400 Euro price point that are made put of buffalo leather with lambskin on the inside, hand made in Italy. If that would be labeled with “Balenciaga”, “Ermenegildo Zegna” and so on, the price tag would be around 3-4k. And that’s not a wild guess, I know what I’m talking about here. Now, is it legit to sell anything overpriced? Hell yeah, if people come and buy it, fair play 👌🏼 Cheers man 🙋🏼♂️
Interesting would be to cut apart some boots of premium brands Like the trooper leather boot by balenciaga Which looks like it could have a lot of leather in the midsole
Would be interesting to see how the New Balace foam compares to the others. I have some Ultraboost, but that shoe is different. The sole is pretty wide and compared to a lot of Adidas with soft fabric, you don?t tent to slib of the sole inside the shoe. And the feeling of cushion is almost strangely soft whilst still giving more support then the Ultraboost. Feels like walking on moss. Maybe because the foot is more encapsuled because of the wider sole. It also has a very stiff toe rim, which most of the Adidas are lacking. Anyways. I think itˋs pretty sophisticated and well thought construction.
The low bounce height suggests whats called a low restitution coefficient in collisions Basically how much energy is imparted back into the collsion and how much is lost as heat, sound, etc A harder plastic having a lower coefficient of restitution makes sense, if you measure the volume and mass of a piece of it to find the density too, it’d likely be enough to identify what the material is Also the reason for the unwinding is likely different material, the tighter wind in the balenciaga after a shear failure suggests its more plastic than elastic (as strain hardening doesn’t happen in purely elastic materials, hence why it retains a shape after being cut) - it’s likely for that reason a polymer; couldn’t tell you which one Measuring tensile strength and melting point might work though
I really appreciate the historical segment of your videos. I'm pretty sure Mr Balenciaga is rolling in his grave at the junk they are producing and slapping his good name onto.
Since they're made in Italy and not Chinese slave labour there would be a slight cost to the workforce, though I'm guessing the cost of the materials wouldn't be as much as its polyester.
I got some Nikes that were basically the same thing at a clearance store for $60, and those came with a matching drawstring bag, a nice thick one too. The "Riccardo Tisco Air Zoom Legends," and they've lasted, I still have them and they still look pretty good for 6ish years.

thanks a lot for making this video. Your way of looking at these expensive sneakers is amazing. yes i do like these things and i'm "guilty" of supporting these brands with my money but it's genuinely nice to see this type of videos. Other suggestions to more sneaker head type shoes that are still interesting unlike a sock glued on a 5$ outsole: -Balenciaga Track or Tripple S (idk cuz i didnt cut them apart but i would think they are similar when it comes to construction) -Any Adidas 4d shoe (they have a really interesting futuristic look and the tech behind it is really cool too) -any Nike shoe with full air units (vapormax for eg.) - any Space Hippie shoe (the whole recycling thing behind them is probably 90% marketing but the high top one has an interesting lacing system, and the whole line looks super interesting) -Balenciaga Oversized Sneaker (i'm genuinely interested how high the leather quality on those) -any Adidas Blade shoe just for the memes -any Yeezy slide type shoe with the full foam upper (im curious whether they are any good or just a Crocs for the price of two Crocs) -any "cheaper" self lacing shoes (i belive the Nike Adapt's current iteration is the cheapest rn but don't quote me on that one) -any WeAreUnderdog sneaker (bonus points, you could make a collab with the designer of said shoes a lot easier cuz they are sometimes youtubers too) i hope any of these catches your eye i would be really pleased to see any of these on this channel (tbh i'm already happy with the lot of sneakerhead content on the channel lately so keep it up man )
Triple S would be amazing. Can't speak to the materials but clearly the construction is at least more complicated (if not innovative) than yr average sneaker; you're paying for a genuinely unique silhouette. The Sock Runners are just a priced-up Nike Free RN without having to do the R&D themselves
@@caleblatreille8224 They are just fashion shoes. It's not a sportswear and they are designed with keeping in mind look is more important than useability.
@@Erhogz I didn't mention sports or usability at all? My point is that even within luxury fashion houses (where everything is just for looks), some shoes have far more elaborate construction or design elements than others.
Cutting open a few cheap pairs of athletic shoes from Amazon and comparing the quality, price, tech, etc to other name brand shoes would likely be interesting to a lot of people. Is a $20-$30 pair of athletic shoes on Amazon equal to the $150 pair of Nikes? It would be cool to see.
I’m curious. Maybe running shoes are different but I love all the bounce tests and all that but I’ve been selling skate shoes for 20+ years and have heard a million foam sales pitches. I do remember when adidas “boost” and “bounce” came out but it caught me off guard because up until that point I had always been taught that a foam should absorb shock and not bounce. Ive always been told that if the foam has a bounce that means that energy would be returning into your foot and joints. So a foam should absorb impact so that the energy is not returned to your joints. If you drop a steel bearing on a bed of poron it will literally thud and almost not bounce at all which means the energy is captured and your body is protected from impact. I think footprint insoles famously shows this in all their marketing for skateboarding insoles. I understand running is different than skateboarding but the science behind absorbing impact seems like it should be the same and in that case the balenciaga shoes performed the best for high level impact resistance. I’m just curious if anyone out there knows more about this.
It did seem like it was also just hard, though, so maybe the comparison would be more landing on concrete (Balenciaga) vs. a trampoline. I see what you mean though, I always wondered this too
In my understanding, there's a big difference in desired function. If you land on your board, you want your feet to stay on the board rock solid. The degree of control shoes give is your primary concern. For running, your primary concern is to conserve as much energy as possible. Unlike in skateboarding, the returned energy has a purpose in running by helping you push off for the next step.

Thanks for giving some history of the brand. Unfortunately besides the name, Balenciaga today has basically no relation to Mr. Balenciaga's fashion house, which was revolutionary in mid-century womenswear. (The brand's website does not even share its history--they are literally banking on the name alone.) At least with brands like Dior and Chanel, the founder's aesthetic continues in the brand's modern iteration (questions of quality aside), but Balenciaga's aesthetics today are an insult to its founder's legacy. @Marc Carran I don't think you understand how his channel works. While he doesn't explicitly take requests, and I'm sure they have a long list of shoes already waiting to be cut, I'm also sure that they're looking and listening for potential suggestions. But yeah, sure, people shouldn't interact with content creators. Just shut up and watch. I gotcha. I'm sure he appreciates you white knighting him.
@Marc Carran so then how would you suggest going about making a suggestion? Would, "can I make a suggestion" have been better than "can I humbly request"? Because I think it's less about semantics with you and more about you just having a problem with people asking in general.

Wow you just brought back a bunch of memories of my childhood friends mom making us wear those socks with the dots in their house 🤣 haven't thought of them for years

The quality may have gone down and this is ok from a business perspective since they do need to make money so that they can do other cool shit but what bothers me especially is your point about Balenciaga rolling over his grave and not designing "unique pieces". The truth is that what Demna does very much aligns with what Balenciaga used to do, just in a modern context. They break rules. Did you see the recent Balenciaga Couture show? No you didn't but in 20 years you might hear how influential it was for the future of Couture fashion. People that don't get it, like you, just criticize but when asked what should the course of fashion be, your answer is that it should be bland and boring and conservative. That's really what yall are asking for when you criticize Balenciaga and Demna today. Him and a lot of people being criticized by the normies today are the ones pushing fashion into an interesting and fresh space. real art. the purpose of art is to make you feel something and make you attracted to it and a lot of times designers like Demna are great at this. and if you know about history it's always the people pushing boundaries getting criticized by the normies. they're called normies for a reason
Thank you for your reviews. I saw a comment about reviewing replicas of popular shoes like Jordan’s, Yeezys, etc and I second that.
Oh that's nice, I was worried about the durability since ive seen people saying that the logo has fallen off after a few uses

Hell yeah, if people come and buy it, fair play 👌🏼

Interesting would be to cut apart some boots of premium brands
Like the trooper leather boot by balenciaga
Which looks like it could have a lot of leather in the midsole
Would be interesting to see how the New Balace foam compares to the others. I have some Ultraboost, but that shoe is different. The sole is pretty wide and compared to a lot of Adidas with soft fabric, you don?t tent to slib of the sole inside the shoe. And the feeling of cushion is almost strangely soft whilst still giving more support then the Ultraboost. Feels like walking on moss. Maybe because the foot is more encapsuled because of the wider sole. It also has a very stiff toe rim, which most of the Adidas are lacking. Anyways. I think itˋs pretty sophisticated and well thought construction.
this video is
Three months ahead of its time
As someone with a pair of these, they’re actually really comfortable. The foam soles are no memory foam.
Cope you paid 1k for some socks Elmer glued to some random chunks of plastic 😂 💀
The low bounce height suggests whats called a low restitution coefficient in collisions
Basically how much energy is imparted back into the collsion and how much is lost as heat, sound, etc
A harder plastic having a lower coefficient of restitution makes sense, if you measure the volume and mass of a piece of it to find the density too, it’d likely be enough to identify what the material is
Also the reason for the unwinding is likely different material, the tighter wind in the balenciaga after a shear failure suggests its more plastic than elastic (as strain hardening doesn’t happen in purely elastic materials, hence why it retains a shape after being cut) - it’s likely for that reason a polymer; couldn’t tell you which one
Measuring tensile strength and melting point might work though
I really appreciate the historical segment of your videos.

I usually skip the ads but i have to recognise that yours are very cool.
The profit margin of these shoes has to be amazing.
ye they probably spend like 10 bucks to make one of these pieces of sht.
Since they're made in Italy and not Chinese slave labour there would be a slight cost to the workforce, though I'm guessing the cost of the materials wouldn't be as much as its polyester.

thanks a lot for making this video. Your way of looking at these expensive sneakers is amazing. yes i do like these things and i'm "guilty" of supporting these brands with my money but it's genuinely nice to see this type of videos. Other suggestions to more sneaker head type shoes that are still interesting unlike a sock glued on a 5$ outsole:
-Balenciaga Track or Tripple S (idk cuz i didnt cut them apart but i would think they are similar when it comes to construction)
-Any Adidas 4d shoe (they have a really interesting futuristic look and the tech behind it is really cool too)
-any Nike shoe with full air units (vapormax for eg.)
- any Space Hippie shoe (the whole recycling thing behind them is probably 90% marketing but the high top one has an interesting lacing system, and the whole line looks super interesting)
-Balenciaga Oversized Sneaker (i'm genuinely interested how high the leather quality on those)
-any Adidas Blade shoe just for the memes
-any Yeezy slide type shoe with the full foam upper (im curious whether they are any good or just a Crocs for the price of two Crocs)
-any "cheaper" self lacing shoes (i belive the Nike Adapt's current iteration is the cheapest rn but don't quote me on that one)
-any WeAreUnderdog sneaker (bonus points, you could make a collab with the designer of said shoes a lot easier cuz they are sometimes youtubers too)
i hope any of these catches your eye i would be really pleased to see any of these on this channel (tbh i'm already happy with the lot of sneakerhead content on the channel lately so keep it up man )
Triple S would be amazing.
If the sole quality is equivalent assume the overall quality would be equal.
