I've never felt at risk in the Philippines anywhere I've been, Mindanao included, but you do need to be aware of what areas you go to. Also if you do choose to travel in a "Red Zone" your travel insurance won't cover you for anything. I think the main difference is that in Britain random violence is rife and you can be attacked for no other reason than someone feels like it ,attacks against shop staff and even medical staff are so prevalent that there are now specific charges for both. In the Philippines if there's violence there tends to be a reason, someone has upset someone else personally and I've never witnessed any aggression by a local let alone assault, both are very common in the UK. As you say Phil, remember you're a guest, behave like one and treat people with respect and you're very unlikely to get any major problems there.
Blues, The Philippines is very safe... no problem. The worst place is Southampton.... nightmare; get to Mitcham or Croydon in London 😅. UK is very dodgy... hehehe 😊. Good advice, Blues. A low profile and respect people. Blues, 😅
If you watch the news and read the news papers it is more dangerous in Europe and in America. Just last week a German policeman was stabbed to death in the daytime and in the UK stabbings during the day seems to be a common thing. In the 4 years that i have been here in the Philippines i have not seen any crime here apart from my wife not talking to me for a while lol, oh yes and some guys in Dramaguete (Ground Zero) fighting each other😂
Thanks for the info. I have to be very careful here in the USA. I know you as a Brit probably not used to it but as an American I am carrying a gun from the time my feet hit the floor in the morning til I go to bed. I guess that would be the difference in living in the Phil for me.
Mojo, I will check how much it was with my when she gets back home. Hi Mojo, It cost me just under 7,000 peso for 2 months tourist visa and the yearly ID card
HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT STORY IS TRUE/?,,about your lady getting her 70k stolen, i hear that same story many times phill, i dont think a filipino will be soooo careless with a years worth of money!

Dave, that is a really good comment. Thank you
Downtown Manila, in the hood, is safer than many major cities in America.
I'm sure that you are right. London in the UK can be a dangerous place
I never had a problem there. Other people had a few, because they were deserving. Be cool, and the locals are the best people ever.
I agree with you
no go zones in the Philippines as well in any country. used common sense.

People are people…good and bad in any population. Mind your manners, don’t get involved in other’s messes, and you’ll be fine.
Great advice 👍
TBH,
The Philippines is safer than the the UK. Now that sounds crazy, but it's worse in many places in the UK.

There is crime here for sure, and I hear that Cebu has a big drug problem. But it's no different than many other countries
Correct...👍

Yes, that would be so as foreigners are not allowed to own firearms
