    I will be onist, I cried when I saw those truck run by for his funeral. My grandfather passed 2 weeks ago on Palm Sunday. Me and him were close and I helped on their farm during the summers. This reminded me of it. And sorry for your loss.

    That was touching tribute to a life well lived. I am very sorry for the loss of a fine gentleman. It is said " As long as someone is well remembered, they are are not entirely gone. " His work is done. Now those with the honor of knowing him are left to keep the memory alive. God bless you all.

    Jeff,I lost a turbo on my 623b scraper. First one for me. It made a funny noise, lost all power, and surrounded me with so much black smoke I didn't know where I was going. It had a good tight cab so I didn't eat any smoke. Took a long time to get it back to the yard. Mechanic fixed it in a couple of days and was back to work. Oh what a difference.

    I've lost rear turbos on two occasions. And one that looked like it did. So I pulled off the cut (24 rigs) head to yard and pulled filter. That air filter weighed 34 lbs.Poured coal out the stack the same failed turbo.

    On the modern highly boosted diesels, when the turbo fails, the shrapnel goes BACKWARDS into the air cleaner. Simply because when the turbo is boosting under normal load, there is a strong vacuum to the air cleaner, once the turbo fails, debris goes into the vacuum, not towards the engine.

    Curious if you've tried welding a cutting edge to a few teeth to help speed grading with the excavator in such soft soil? I found I was significantly faster - found my depth perception was affected with only the teeth of the bucket in the bottom of the ditch - was much easier to maintain grade with a smooth cutting edge. If I had a 3' bucket, would use a 4' wide cutting edge and would clean up stuff that rolled out of the bucket. Plus it left the ditch cleaner.

    Your puppy, At the age of 6months you can at least Dubble his size and you'll get the aptox size of full grown at two years. he will be 75-85 pounds of Teeth and fur.
    Beautiful pup ya got there. !!!!! Make sure your oil supply line is getting oil up to your new turbo Jeff. lack of lube is the normal cause of failure, also let the engine idle for a few before shutdown. remember that assembly is spinning 100,000 RPM or more. it take a few to slow down. ....!!!!!!

    • @stanpatterson5033
      @stanpatterson5033 6 років тому +1

      I'd like to see an autopsy of the turbo, just for that reason...to see if oil flow to the bearings was impeded. Used to be with a highway truck, you wanted it to idle for 3,4,5min before shutting it off so that the turbo's bearings could get some cooler oil from the engine pumped up there. Failure to allow cooler oil to the bearings for a short while after being run hard tended to result in "coking", where the red-hot bearings would boil what oil was around them, and after that happened a few times, the flow would be reduced or stopped up, resulting in bearing failure. I'm pretty sure that Jeff's machines don't go from 100% work to instant shut-down, without some time lumbering across a field to a parking spot for the night. I'm confident that this turbo wasn't defeated as described above, but just for the sake of interest, I'd love to see if he can determine what did cause it. Hopefully it's not a symptom of another problem elsewhere....

    Why is this a 40 minute video, also I highly doubt you blew the turbo, vehicles with old engines that haven’t been cleaned out, and engines with the turbo sensor in the exhaust smoke like that. I’m going to say that it’s unburnt fuel due to turbo lag, and seeing how old that vehicle is, it most likely needs an engine rebuild and a new turbo

    • @CoalChrome
      @CoalChrome 6 років тому

      Jpaydirt I’m only 14, the experience is from visiting railroad museums with operational ALCO locomotives. Question how old is the turbo? That could have something to do with it. I don’t know bout smaller diesels, but turbo blows are typically accompanied by lots of fire in the exhaust, or at least on locomotives. But you should really look up a video of an ALCO locomotive, it’s very cool.

      bob opsahl ALCO doesn’t exist anymore, it went out of business in the 70s due to competition with EMD and GE. They only made locomotives and large industrial engines for ships/giant equipment/generators
