The ONE critique I have on James Cameron was the **ahem** CGI anatomical accurateness of the CGI characters…. Lol…
😂😂😂
Emily the Criminal is a great flick!!! And good to see Aubrey Plaza on White Lotus, too!
I can't wait to chat about this one on Sunday, DMG!
I just watched the excellent documentary on American movie critics again, For Love of Movies, and one section discusses how Cameron tried to get Peter Travers fired from The Rolling Stone for not recognizing his utter genius in Titanic (a paint-by-numbers movie I loathed, btw). Cameron is a tremendous technical talent, no doubt, but his self-confidence insists that he also drive the bus for dialogue and storylines - when he'd be much better off hiring top writing talent that matches his own film-tech prowess. I mean, David Lean had Robert Bolt and Kubrick mined Arthur C Clarke, etc etc.The very first thing Rob says is "llllllllonnggg" and that underlines the problem with James' blind obsession with his own brilliance. The tragedy of Cameron is the he has never accepted the film is a collaborative medium.
Dammit - I NEED to see this movie!!!
I do agree with your criticisms- similar to the first, quite long, not the most complex overall storyline. But it could have been a lot worse… I’ve seen many sequels that pale in comparison to the first. IMO this movie was similar to the first, just with a continued storyline and new characters
Exactly! That's why we put it in a different class than WW84 - which both Jim and felt was just... bad. That said, I recommend you don't reflect on your experience with this one TOO much. You can find yourself doing a lot of, "And what the h*ll was with the [insert overused cliche or derivative action sequence or... here]", you know?
Interesting take guys
I went in with a lot of trepidation to watch this one. Personally didn't like the first , however really enjoyed this one.
It is derivative, sometimes draggy and feels like an updated version of Part 1 but I felt way more invested in the characters and the action this time around.
I haven't collected my thoughts fully about the film but I definitely loved seeing it in the theatre.
I liked the fact that the film took it's time and allowed us to soak in the water world and spend time with each of the different characters. Unlike the first one , I feel Jake Sully is way more fleshed out as a character in this film and has a very interesting character arc. I felt the action had genuine stakes to them and was thoroughly invested.
But I definitely get both your points about self indulgence. This movie does get self indulgent af times.
@@shashankvchari900 thanks for your take, Shashank! Do you think you'll do a review for your channel?
Hey, Shashank.
I'm old and cynical! Just kidding. Great to look at, beautiful and clear, but there are lots of stuff we didnt mention. A lot of the plot is based on "those crazy kids." When one character said, "You're tying me up again?!?" that sort of summed up the whole thing for me.
@@RobKristjansson Yes, I would be doing a review but a bit later. Am travelling on vacation rn.
Have a great time. I'm looking forward to your review whenever it comes out!
