- The most popular image associated with kata is that of a karate practitioner performing a series of punches and kicks in the air. The kata are executed as a specified series of approximately 20 to 70 moves, generally with stepping and turning, while attempting to maintain perfect form. There are perhaps 100 kata across the various forms of karate, each with many minor variations. The number of moves in a kata may be referred to in the name of the kata, eg. Gojushiho, which means "54 steps." The number of moves may also have links with Buddhist spirituality. The number 108 is significant in Buddhism, and kata with 54, 36, or 27 moves (divisors of 108) are common. The practitioner is generally counselled to visualize the enemy attacks, and his or her responses, as actually occurring, and karateka are often told to "read" a kata, to explain the imagined events.
In teaching the open handed kata, most styles of Karate start with a series of three, or sometimes two, very simple kata called blocking forms before advancing to five basic kata named Pinan in some systems and Heian in others. By working through this series (in order: Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan (except in Wado Ryu Karate, where Shodan and Nidan are reversed)) the practitioner learns all the basic stances and techniques before moving on to more advanced kata. Traditionally, kata are taught in stages. Previously learned kata are returned to in order to show more advanced techniques or ways of doing things, as beginners do not have the same knowledge and experience that practitioners further up the ranks have. It is not uncommon in some styles for students testing for Shodan (first rank black belt) to have to repeat every kata they have learned from the first belt, but at a "black belt" level, for example, with better technique, power, amongst others. This system is often used for the lower grades as well. The student will perform one new kata and one or two previous ones, to demonstrate how much they have progressed and how quickly they can learn new things. - Спорт
I really respect this man and I'm from a different shotokan organization. How many masters actually have video of them performing all shotokan katas for everyone to view? Kanazawa has no hesistation showing the world karate via his own abilties.
Having practiced Shotokan karate for some twenty nine, years, I have seen many real & imagined masters of the art & to date, Sensei Kanazawa is still simply the best. his interpretation of the kata's is measured & powerful, the way kata should be done so that can be used in real life, the JKA versions these days are too fast & look more like gymnastic routines.
may the legend rip in peace
Such crisp moves. Really is the kata man.
Buen video del pasado, prof. kanazawa uno de los mejores de karate, tuve el privilegio de verlo en un seminario en un dojo en av. Quevedo,cd. de México, junto con el profesor Matsura, en los años 70
If ya does it correctly, both feet will be extremely tired. Good kata that trains ya knees as well. Strong and powerful.
Been looking for this Kata.... Thank you sensei
Sochin , a mais bela demonstração de perseverança .

Hirokazu Kanazawa. Look him up. Anyone who questions the technical expertise of this kata is simply a fool.

I know how you feel, but you're still young I just returned to karate last year when I was 31, I was away for 12 years. It never really leaves you unless you really want it to. Is there a reason why you can't go back? I needed to come out of it, I had a lot of ego back in the day and joined the ministry to learn humility first. I'm no longer in ministy(church closed down) but I've returned to karate. You should find a good instructor in your art to maximize your training.
Esse kata de Seisho Aragaki segue a linhagem Shorei, muito parecida com a linhagem Naha-Te.
Oss sensei
The perfect zanshin kata!
@itachi9601
this "guy" is on the 10th dan. something you will only get after a lifetime of training! and why should he do ballet?
Oss!

we also have this kata in my style, but in his shuto uke (blocking shuto) his hand seems to "flop" into it.
Get a 10th Dan, get 60 years old and film yourself
I am still confused of 2:24 - 2:41 .....What stances did he use? Kokutsu/Zenkutsu dachi or just Sochin Dachi?
2:24 - 2:30 is all sochin-dachi (aka fudo-dachi). After the side kicks are thrown, the elbow strikes are in sochin-dachi. But 2:30 - 2:41 is kokutsu-dachi (or back stance). All those knife-hand blocks are kokutsu-dachi.
JiyutoSeigi thx dude
@@JiyutoSeigi I am certainly not one to criticize Kanazawa, but honestly does the stance at 2:37 look like back stance? Pause it and look at the weight distribution and especially position of feet.

They were doing kata like this in the old times but how ages are going kata is changing i don't know why it's probably beacuse of the WKF you know there is a JKA and they are more traditional but this new WKF is more as a "sport"
1 kata mais ce n'est pas assez ryhthme
