Loved this episode. I know the area very well and this set of Oasts. How beautifully crafted the end result is! Magnificent transformation into a home and preservation of Kent architecture! ❤
The totally involved and constant presence of the owners definitely helped to propel the project forward - and, bring it in on time. Also, as George pointed out - there was enough space so that the crew had room to do many jobs at once, not having to wait their turn. For once, no agonizing over money! Nice to see a successful rehab, and a continuing presence of the family on the land.
beautiful job! and it's a nice change of pace to see a job where the owners are not at their wits end with budget and time issues and they have plenty of workers to get the job done. it looks like the roof was the key to whether they would make the schedule. since it was not that bad, they could stay on schedule. i wonder if they put a dumb waiter in especially since they have a second floor. they should have put an elevator in too. in 10-20 years, they would really appreciate that.
@@annereidy7981 yeah, i saw that when i research what's happened since the build. i wonder if they always meant to do that.. i guess with their kids grown, they just didnt need all of that space. it makes more sense to use it as a rental anyway.
@@persebra at the end of programme there was a sign at the end of the drive with a property company logo, that company is either owned or run by both of them.
He kept being surprised by how smoothly and quickly it all went. Like he doesn't know the rule, "You can do anything if you throw enough money at it."😂 I found it all quite silly, really.
Refreshing that the couple chose a cheap wooden balcony decking in order to stay on budget. The amount of these shows where the couples emotionally commit to expensive, high end, imported, difficult to install finishes on seemingly lesser important features of the home, and then wonder why their build is a year delayed and 50% over budget.
They also left the exterior brick alone and did not spend an insane amount of money putting on another exterior, painting it black, or putting in "glass floors" or windows the size of walls. Smart efficient design and it seems the man chose to stay on budget and not waste money
At the start when the lady told she liked to have a modern home I thought all original details and the atmosphere of the building would get lost. Was I wrong! the end result is a warm welcoming place with enough details of the original function left, and even the very large living diner room doesn't feel like an office building restaurant. Only the 9 bedrooms seem a bit overdone to me, but I looked it up and it's now used as a luxury group accommodation, so the couple isn't living there by themselves anymore?
How sad he couldn't keep his original family home but at least he seems to be able to access it. Great organisation and planning always wins and seems he still wears the trousers which is also nice but unusual.
Lovely historical elements, and a very enjoyable episode to watch, but after noticing the fire exit sign above the front door in the final show around, had a little google and was a bit disappointed to discover that the restoration project billed as a “family home” is in fact a holiday let that goes for £7k a week! That might explain the plain decor and finishes..no steel and glass kitchen for Lois then.. I suppose it’s nice that lots of people get to enjoy this building now, but it rather ruins the story a bit! Still, a good episode and a few nice ideas.
Also found it curious that it wasn’t mentioned at all that this property was apparently restored as a holiday let. Guess that having 9 bedrooms, all with baths should have been a clue. However, needs must, and this oast house was lovely. Bats and all.
National Trust in UK owns many beautiful old historic buildings used as hotels or b&bs - George mentioned the couple plans for 7 bedrooms & baths to be used for visiting family, friends, possibly business associates?
Fantastic restoration, but why spend all that money and not hire a professional decorator? To me, that was a very bad decision. Sorry Lois, but you missed out on an opportunity to make it "Jaw Dropping". It's still not too late..."Hire a professional decorator"!! Trust me. It's worth every penny.
The commentator never see help them, even helping to build or help to buy some material or helping in budget, Need appreciation from local government for people that willing to restore old building but in economic better build the new one rather restored actually the appearance still old versions. Old building its hard to maintenance for keeping safe. They are aging.
Pity the place is so neutral ! A bit like the personality of the woman ... No real style, it just looks like a first page glossy magazine. No library, nothing. Everything so bland its amazing in fact that they even managed to blow GBP 628K on that !

Brilliant and clever in managing the budget and finishing the project on time🤞🙌👏

Agreed: Dramatic, beautiful and sustainable.
Wonderful show, beautiful work, bravo. Thank you for the upload.

They don't live in it but rent it out for functions and corporate events!

what a difference it is when the owners have the money
Amazing!!!!!!!
So interesting. Love the history behind the restorations. Thomas NC, USA

Even if that £7k is meant to lodge up to 42 people, not a choice for the budget conscious.

Can anyone please provide me the link of the instrumental music being played in the background. ??
If the building is on private property and is not a listed building, why did they have to get Planning input about the wind mills?
Coming in on budget and time. Probably used to old money?
Why would you want 9 bedrooms with on suit bathrooms unless you are going to trun it as a guest house
That's exactly what they did! This was never going to be a family home!!
As soon as I saw the ‘fire exit’ sign over the front door in the finished house I thought they weren’t going to be living in it.

Beautiful, but could do with more plants. books and art work.

Why didn’t they replace the whole roof? This guy is loaded!

Yes, I totally agree.
It’s unsanitary for humans to live with bat feces in their own home! At least charge them rent?
