The old man in the video is legendary actor Dick Van Dyke. The singer from Coldplay isn't his son, but is just a big fan and made this in tribute to him as he was turning 99. You may have heard of the film Mary Poppins. Dick Van Dyke was in that movie.
Yesterday (December 13) was Dick Van Dyke's 99th birthday, and Coldplay released the official (vs. director's cut) MV yesterday as a tribute. This was filmed in Dick's Malibu home with a lot of his family...not all. (His two oldest children are 73 and 78, can you believe THAT?) So this MV has children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren! He's definitely lived a good life! He dances with his wife (40 years younger) Arlene Silver in this MV. The mother of his children died years ago. Yet he's still moving! He even appeared in Disney's remake of Mary Poppins a few years ago. 😊❤️
There are so many wonderful Coldplay songs “Yellow” was their first hit. There second album had “In My Place”, “Clocks”, “The Scientist”” And these were from the year 2000 and 2002, many albums and great songs since then.
The comment Chris was making at the end-"Come back when I turn 100 years old"-was directed at Spike Jonze, the director of this video. Dick Van Dyke turned 99 a few days ago, and Chris was just saying Spike should do a follow-up video in a year.
So many people of at least a couple generations grew up with Dick Van Dyke. He had a sitcom back in the day, and as someone who grew up in yhe 80's, I grew up watching Mary Poppins and Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang on repeat, even though those movies were already 20 or so years ild when I was a kid. Anyway yeah he's done a lot of stuff snd been a part if many of our childhoods.
As others have said, the singer is not related, but making a tribute to this legend as he turned 99 years old this last week. Can you imagine still being 99 and still dancing? Crazy. Here's to another year and reacing the big 100 NEXT December. 🙂
10:0210:04 What's truly amazing is the day of his birthday a wild fire was encroaching on his home. At 99 Mr. Van Dyke was hosing the area down with water to stop the fire. He started to collapse. Thankfully people got to him and evacuate him. His house and memorabilia was safe and he and his family returned home. Chris Martin said in an interview that it was funny that Dick's son asked his dad if it was ok if they got in the pool after the video shoot. Dick's son is 78😂

Its not the home itself, I imagine but the entire lifetime of memorabilia and memories, as you can see in this video (shot in October)
