Yes, I got to see her sing this legend Ms. Peggy Lee. I was a young woman in NYC had dinner with her a few times. What a soul ,class and one of a kind.❤
Because this song only peaked at no.11 somehow I missed it, all my life and heard it for the first time yesterday in June 2024. I guess had I been listening to music in 1969, it would have been difficult to hear the song then, which radio stations would have played a song like this. Fantastic song and I am quite moved.
My memory is that where I lived in 1969 (as a youngster) there were a few radio stations playing this type of music because my parents were tuned in to them and by default so was I! It was good for me though, made me a fan. Glad to hear you finally caught up! :)
underappreciated? lol, she made millions, recorded voluminously, and worked continuously in top venues and on television worldwide for decades. She had success and recognition at the top of her field.
This was excerpted from a PBS documentary. Peggy was relatively happy during the recording because she was having an affair with the PBS Executive producer David Prowitt, I remember she bought him a car and parked it in front of his co-op in Manhattan. He had to move it before before his wife woke up! Prowitt was a real charmer who later had a notorious affair with Beverly Sills while she was married at the time and recovering from cancer.

One of the most perfect blends of song and singer in pop history. And she looks so beautiful.

I'd soon be 34 and I'm hearing this song for the first time. What a beautiful song!!

My nominee for "The Most Depressing Song of All Time." Another candidate, "Alone Again, Naturally."

The incomperable Peggy Lee.
After my h.s. Prom, June 1960 some of us went to Basin Street East in Manhattan; performing, Peggy Lee. I’ll never forget it.
Not depressing at all. Uts for life as it is
I came here from PJ Harvey's cover with John Parrish, Anyone else?
From great women entertainers on the Ed Sullivan show, I'd been watching Torie Fields the comedienne. Love Peggy Lee, phenomenal.
Nope, never heard of him
yes, me!!
@@Daniela-pr7rz that sound good, nice taste in music...
@@teresasteele5327 - remember "Totie" Fields from back in the day, but not Torie Fields
Is there more to her or is that all there is?
I'm not convinced she believes the words she is singing
What a depressing, cynical song. 😞🤮
There’s not a depressing thing about this song.
