Now TSA can detect if you have precheck by checking or scanning your ID
Short explanation: Get Global Entry since it includes TSA PreCheck, and doesn't cost much more. Clear I think is worthless, but if you have some sort of free offer to get it, go ahead and apply.
Good summary :)
The only thing to note is that current Global Entry processing times are almost 7 months vs Precheck's week or less (or 2 months at longest) so its something to keep in mind
@@gilded_lady yep.
Clear is far from worthless. Such a benefit in beating the lines at SeaTac.
@@gilded_lady if you have already received the approval card from TSA and you are just waiting for the interview and if you plan to travel internationally, you can have your interview when you come back from your trip - you avoid the long waiting time for this interview- Hope this helps
LOVE Global Entry... walked straight up to a face reader with no line, and 2 seconds later I was done. No Customs card to fill out, no interaction with anyone, it was a breeze. Well worth it.
Yeah. The new face reader kiosks are awesome
I applied for Global entry at the beginning of September, was approved a week later and started searching for an interview time. Even thought I’m in Chicago, interview times were almost a year out. I stayed on top of it and checked every day. A week later I found an appointment for later in that same week. Went for my interview and was approved.
If you have applied for GE, and are trying to schedule your interview, stay on top of it. Check daily/multiple times a day to see if any time slots open up. 🙌🏻
I've heard this, that it's hard to get a Precheck interview. Here in LA you can just go to any Staples store as a walk-in for your Precheck interview.
Took more than 6 months for them to approve me.
Yes!! I’m in San Diego. My app was approved within a few days, but appts at the 2 locations in my county were booking OVER a year out. Same with LA, and even Phoenix (I was willing to hop on a cheap southwest flight using miles). I just kept checking, and was able to snag a cancellation in LA that was only a month out.
I had to drive 2 hours for a 5 minute appointment, but I’ll get to skip the 2hr customs line at least 3 times in the next year. Worth it!!
there’s an app that track when appointments are canceled, you can pay a small fee to get notified and you have to book the slot immediately
Applied 10months ago no answer from anyone.
When I flew back into Detroit from London back in April, DTW Airport had the new Global Entry kiosks where I did not have to have my passport scanned. It was a really neat experience! Having both TSA Precheck and Global Entry have been so amazing! It is very rare for security to take more than 5-10 minutes when using the Precheck lines, and Global Entry has made arrivals back into the US much easier too!
TSA Precheck is is worth every penny!
Thank you🙋🏾♀️! I feel like as much as I like to travel I should have already done that. My husband and will definitely do this. Thank you for sharing.
The best video I’ve seen explaining the benefits of each program. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks Ngan!
THIS is the content I very much appreciate as a traveler who is on the fence on what to get. Thanks!
Get both if you travel frequently. I fly 10 times a year and having both is just an amazing time saver!
I have had Global Entry for several years now. This year, finally traveling again, I have used it three times to re-enter the USA. In both Houston and San Francisco, I stood in front of the screen - no need for passport or fingerprintes - and the system recognized my face, thus spitting out a paper with all my critical information, including name and date of birth. That was amazing.
When I returned via LAX, I experienced the same thing you described in this video: just walked by the screen and then an agent called my name, and I was good to go.
Amazeballs! Been waiting for this 🙏🏻 Thank you!!!
Thanks mrjc!
My driver’s license, credit cards, debit cards, everything was lost with my purse so CLEAR saved my butt. I didn’t need my ID, all I needed was my finger prints and boarding pass. Plus I was TSA Pre-check as well. Best thing I’ve ever invested in! I don’t ever have to wait in long lines. Now I don’t have to worry about missing a flight!
This is a great and informative video about the importance of these programs, if you fly a lot, or just hate waiting in line. Thanks, Chris!
Thanks Jeannified!
Got TSA Pre last month & have used it on two trips - it's great!
I just got TSA precheck, one thing that I didn’t know my first flight is that if you are getting your boarding pass from a person, you need to tell them so they put it on the boarding pass. When I was flying to London from JFK, I didn’t know I had to mention it so it wasn’t on my boarding pass, so I had to wait in the regular line and it was frustrating. But the first time I was able to use it, it made the TSA process so smooth! I got through JFK security the day before Thanksgiving in under two minutes because I was the only person in the precheck line.
This was excellent! Very clear, very concise, and you helped me to make my decision on which to add. I already have Precheck but will add Global Entry. Thanks!
Good stuff. Thanks for taking the time to do this. It's really helpful in making my decision.
Glad it was helpful!
I got GOES back when I was working in Mexico. Great program that saved me untold hours in line. I also got APEC which has been wonderful in Asia. Highly recommended for frequent travelers.
very helpful, very thorough. Thank you for making the video and sharing all the information.
Clear and GE are a great combo. I can park at BWI and be at the gate in 10 mins w/ Clear and Precheck (part of GE). GE has saved me hours in customs.
I think Global Entry is the best option. $100 for 5 years, and you automatically get TSA Pre-Check.
. TSA Precheck is $85 by itself It's a no-brainer to pay the extra $15.
Just didn’t have current passport and would have to wait til at St. Louis airport to do interview
That would normally be true, but right now you typically can't get a Global Entry interview appointment for months. It's a mess
@@louisrios5546 Oh didn't know the wait was that long. I got lobal Entry over 10 years ago so that wasn't an issue.
We have Global Entry (includes PreCheck) and CLEAR. I fly Fort Lauderdale to NYC area airports about once a month. CLEAR/PreCheck saves me at least 10 minutes each time I fly out of NYC and sometimes 30+ minutes if it's a busy weekend or holiday. Both are reimbursed via credit card benefits and even if either wasn't, we'd have them. Returning from international travel with Global Entry has saved us at least an hour many times getting through Immigration. Time when traveling is precious. I can arrive at the airport an hour before boarding time even with checked luggage (domestic), still have time to grab something to eat/drink post security, and still be at the gate well before boarding time.
Great info. I wish I had seen this video three weeks ago before I had applied to global entry!
Thanks for this video. It helped clear out what TSA Pre✅ and Global Entry means.
Very informative Chris. We were at San Francisco airport & stood in the normal security line. Next to us was the TSA pre check line which had no-one so it would definitely have been quicker. Wish we had that kind of program in Australia
Thanks Cathy!
Global entry (sentri) is a must have. Good for land, air & sea. Best time saving. Flew in from Cancun to LAX was out and on my shuttle within 30 minutes. Those screen was a cool experience. Great technology.
Thank you so much!! Definitely getting Global Entry
Thank you for sharing. I have shared with my travel groups.
Thanks Webster!
Wow I was literally just looking for video on this and you posted!
Awesome Xylia! I read your mind :)
Clear is worth it for some, for me and the wife it is. The airports we usually fly out of have Clear, (SFO,SJC, and recently San Diego) It definately shaves a good amount of time, and I kid you not, sometimes I pass through security faster than TSA precheck. What I would really like is global entry, because you can use it in the Sentri lanes in the Mexican land border. We frequently go to Tijuana, and always have to time our return since those lines can be 3-4 hours during
peak times.
I applied for TSA Precheck last summer, and a month later for Global Entry. For Precheck I had an interview scheduled very quickly, but I rescheduled it a number of times while waiting for Global Entry conditional approval. I had an international trip approaching, so would have loved getting that completed. However, it was taking forever. So I had my Precheck interview and had at least that. Returning from Europe in September I arrived at DFW. I went through customs and 20 minutes later received my conditional approval. Literally 20 minutes. I could have had my interview right there! 😂🙄
I started looking for an appointment and the closest center was two hours away, but there were no appointments available within a reasonable distance either by car or plane for a year. In November I finally found one in Memphis for this month (January) and booked it. It's a five hour drive one way. So last Sunday I drove to Memphis, had my interview Monday morning, and drove home. I walked in my door, put my bag down, and noticed I had an email. It was a change in my status, which was my approval. 😂
HURRY UP AND WAIT!
I have pre-check now Can’t wait to try it out. Great vid.
Global Entry was wonderful when we returned from Ecuador a couple of weeks ago. It was our first time using it and was worth the money even if we never used it again. The lines were at least an hour or more. There was no one at the Global kiosks and we were on our way in minutes.
You nailed it! Global Entry has been fantastic for my numerous trips to visit family in Canada, but the pre-check included has literally saved hours of waiting in security lines on quick trips from Las Vegas, San Diego and LA to Tucson AZ.
How long was the interview process have appointment next month thanks .
I've had Pre-Check for the last 5 years and it's been a huge help, especially with the back and forth flying I do between islands here in Hawai'i for work and personal reasons. To me, it's worth it and pays itself off quickly for those who fly frequently and now going for Global Entry to help with future international plans.
I've had Pre-check for several years. As it becomes more popular, the lines become longer than they were at first. The only downside is that if you're traveling with someone who doesn't have it you have to decide whether to hang out with them in the regular line or go ahead without them. Since I occasionally travel with my kids I usually opt to hang with them.
I did the CLEAR free trial and traveled 3x during the trial. I was only able to use it once. Either the airport I was at didn't have it or the lane was closed at the time I was there. I cancelled it. I travel a lot for work but often to smaller airports. It's not worth the cost to me to use it only 1/3 of the time.
Two weeks ago we arrived on time at SFO but the line was outrageous! We did the speed program with JetBlue, but they don’t offer that program at that airport. This lady heard me complain and she mentioned about Clear and offered to sign us up! It was great! We cut off 90% of the people but we will had to go through regular security line.
I'm from the UK but travel to the States a lot - applied for GE and was approved within a week. Couldn't get an appointment easily, so went from Enrollment on Arrival - definitely the best option! I flew in to T8 at JFK and was told to go through (international, for me) customs and then found a Border officer afterwards for interview - whole lot took no longer than regular customs, and now I never have to queue again! Getting TSAPre too is fantastic! Would highly recommend GE to anyone!
Wonderful!
This is very informative information. Thanks Chris!
Thanks Shannon!
I’m a UK citizen rather than US and have Global Entry for my long haul flights from the UK to New Zealand which usually transit through America and it’s so invaluable - I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!
If you are trying to get an interview for global entry, listen here!!! I recently got approved to find one but the only airport that was under 5 hours from me had literally no appointments available - ever! I got appointment scanner which is only $30 and for a month straight they let you know the second one becomes available at your desired airport. I was able to not only find an appointment in a matter of days but one that actually fit me schedule. Totally recommend!!!
Very well explained. Thanks!
Thank you for the information now I understand what clear is, didn't know what it was for.
Thanks Sherrie
I have Global Entry, Clear, and TSA Precheck. Global Entry is the best deal in travel, since it's good for 5 years at that low price, and includes TSA Pre. CLEAR I hesitated on, as my home airport doesn't have CLEAR, but the airports I travel through, including Denver, Boston, JFK, and DC airports, do, so it was worth it, as many of those have long lines.
Excellent. I did wonder what happens at the Global and at TSA-pre Check interviews.
I have Clear, and recently took a trip to NYC (back in February) where I was able to use the Clear app to store vaccination information to use for entry into Madison Square Garden and the New York City Ballet. It's not just for airports, and I think more venues are beginning to use it. I used Clear in Baltimore (BWI) to speed past the line waiting to have their ID checked and went directly to the TSA pre-check line even though I don't have TSA Pre-Check. That for me makes the price of Clear worth it.
What place requires vaccines information to go to an event. This is stuff they do in 3rd world countries, very weird.
Having Clear does not guarantee access to TSA precheck..Just to make this Clear.
@@sassoscrib You're right. I have no idea how that happen
I’m doing the “enrolment on arrival” for global entry and tsa pre in October when I arrive at jfk…. As a uk citizen it should help massively when travelling through us airports!
TSA Precheck was super easy and well worth the $80 for 5 years. Filled out app online, scheduled in person appointment for a few documents and finger prints. All done. It's great for my wife who is diabetic and can't go through the full body scanner. We go through the metal detector and move on.
TSA precheck is a great idea especially if you have global entry as well. As a UK citizen it's a pain the the neck trying to get through. Global entey and tsa pressure is open to citizens to several other countered now..
Thank you for all your videos! ✈🥳
Thanks D ;)
I never signed up for TSA PreCheck, but about nine out of every ten flights I've taken in the last ten years, TSA has scanned my boarding pass and sent me through the PreCheck line. Like they say in the old beer commercial, "Why ask why?" It's been a real time saver for me but, when I travel with friends, they give me the stink eye when I glide right through PreCheck and they're stuck standing in the regular line. Another informative video, Chris. Thanks.
Hi Chris. Thanks for the useful information. Hopefully more people will take advantage of these programs. We have TSA Precheck and Global Entry but no Clear here in Hawaii. Take care.
Thanks James!
I have all three. When I came back from Columbia global entry saved me over an hour wait. Well worth it.
Great video and helpful advice!!
Thanks Christina!
TSA Pre Check is very worth it. You don’t have to take off your shoes, laptop or go through the scanner. You also save several minutes which comes in handy if your running behind 😉.
Great information! Thanks.
Thanks Linda!
Thanks for this informative video Chris! I should take advantage of my Platinum and get global entry!
Thanks Gumer!
Great video, so helpful!
Thanks Jennifer!
I have all three programs but really didn't fully understand what each one did and how they could work together. Thank you for this awesome explanation!
Thanks Mic!
Chris, My wife and my airport (PHL) global entry "interviews" were limited to taking our digital pictures and capturing our right and left hand finger prints. The process took less than 5 minutes. The agent reminded us to update our passport information on the Global Entry website when we replace our current passports since both will expire within our five year period. You might also remind your subscribers that the Global Entry ID card only comes in handy when reentering the US from Canada or Mexico.
I'm guessing that you did the interview through the EOA program they offer. its good to know and glad they made it easy. getting a interview is near impossible at this current time.
@@akiraman21 you are correct, we simply had to present our passports and driver licenses before our pictures and prints were collected.
I do have Global Entry and I’m very happy I do. Always cuts on waiting time on the way out or in.
I live in New York City. I applied for Global entry, got approved the next morning. Was able to get interviewed that evening and received my email confirmation the next day.
Impressive speed!
Going to disneyworld in June. Typed in tsa pre check and my man Chris popped right up. Of course I had to tap your vid. Nice explanation gonna do with the TSA pre check sine We’re not international enough for global entry
Right on Traveling Foodies! Yeah. If you don't do international then Pre Check is way easier to get
Wow so helpful, thank you!
You're so welcome!
Also for Global Entry, you can also use it at cruise piers in MIA and FLL; however you must have your identification card on hand, otherwise you may not be granted access to the PreCheck line. It's worth the benefit if you cruise a lot.
Thanks for the tip on the cruise lines and needing the card
@@YellowProductions I am a travel agent and have used this many times as well advising my clients. They totally appreciate this perk.
Great tip. Using the Global Entry line has saved me quite a bit of time at Port Everglades.
Thank you for the information.
Any time!
Great video! Thank you.
Thanks Nancy!
Clear is the greatest invention. You are literarily walked thru the security line. Right past everyone. My husband and I love it!!
Sweet!
I had TSA pre check for years. It was very helpful when I was flying out of Seattle, where the lines could be extremely long. Plus, I often was traveling with a small dog, and this was so much faster. Just got my Global Entry card….it was a long and arduous process because you have to go to an Intl. Airport which has agents available to process the paperwork and fingerprint you. Good luck finding an airport near you and getting an appointment. It took me over a year, I had to drive to an airport 3 hrs. away and it took the guy less than 5 mins.
Is the fee applied for the person/ whole household? Tnx
@@MCao1107 Per person
Per person…both the TSA and Global Entry.
Same. I was lucky to snag a cancellation slot that was only a month out, but I had to drive from San Diego to LA on a weeknight. The most brutal traffic for an appointment that took literally 5 minutes. Still worth it IMO, now I get to basically Fastpass thru TSA and customs.
Don’t get divorced and have your soon to be ex file a restraining order on you to complicate your life. GE will get revoked and the legal costs to reinstate GE get high. The vetting is ridiculous. Is it worth it? Yeah if you don’t get accused of !: you didn’t do.
Love my TSA precheck!
I applied for GE just before a trip to Mexico, and was able to interview after re-entering the US. Waited about 1.5 - 2hrs, and it was so worth it!
Nice!
Global Entry is wonderful! Coming back from Europe through JFK, we zipped through while the regular line snaked all around.
I travel so early in the morning the stations are usually closed, but I still think it's worth having, especially if you are a frequent traveler who leaves at normal people hours and it lasts 5 years (I think). Heck several credit cards will even pay for both Clear and TSA Pre.
Also with Global entry you can cross through the US border by car in the SENTRI lane (fast lane) which can cut a lot of wait time. For example you could be waiting 4+ hours in the regular lane to cross by car back into the US from Mexico. The SENTRI line is probably a 30 min or a 1 hr wait. SENTRI is also another trusted traveler program.
As a United 1K, my average travel is (16) international trips a year, so it makes sense for me to have Global Entry. As a United 1K...I pay $0.00 to have Global Entry, or for that matter $0.00 to get TSA or Clear if you have a top tier with specific airlines, and/or choose to either get TSA or Clear vs. Global Entry.
You should also know that you have to have a clean background to be approved by Global Entry... Great Video on covering the perks of getting through the lines quicker!
👊RESPECT👊
Thanks Steve!
I love TSA PreCheck! So worth it! I love it so much I renewed.
Thanks for the info
Thank you, very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
On my 3rd year of global entry 5 international returns, average time less than one minute. Best experience was after a cruise where thousands of cruise ship passengers were queueing for god knows how long, we walked through in under 30 seconds. Worth every penny.
Thanks for the report Tim!
I have had global entry for over 10 years. Absolutely worth it.
In absolutely love tsa pre check
Great video! I fly 10 times a year for business and am always flying on a tight schedule so having both Precheck and CLEAR is just an amazing time saver. I also have elite status with Delta so checking in baggage at the Sky priority line compounds the time saving. Having both Precheck and CLEAR are 100% worth it if you fly frequently. CLEAR gets you through identity check in like 5 minutes and with Precheck I don't have to take off my shoes, jacket, belt or take my computer out of the bag. Even if you don't fly frequently, if money is no object you should just get it. At first I had Precheck only and was excited to use it for the first time as the lines at Hartsfield Jackson (ATL) are often super long. But once I got into the Precheck line, it was probably just as long as the non-Precheck line! So it did really depend on who else had Precheck. As of today I still see very few people in the CLEAR lines.
Also, I avoid LAX like the plague. I prefer to fly in and out of ONT. LOL
Thanks for that perspective... And yeah... ONT is so much better -- assuming there are flights that actually go where you want to go to :)
@@YellowProductions Yes, that is true! Sometimes if I'm still adamant about flying Delta, I'll have to take a layover. Dallas is a city I fly to often where Delta doesn't have a hub so unless I fly AA I'll have to take a layover. I'll fly out of LAX if it's international though. At ONT, from curb to departure gate, 25 mins MAX! It's amazing. =)
I prefer Long Beach Airport over LAX also.
@@heythave Agreed! LGB also great when I just need to be in SF for the day. But that's a rare occurrence and they generally dont' have non-stops to my usual destinations and it's pretty expensive.
@@anw9485 JetBlue used to be there and it was convenient to fly to the east coast. But, they pulled out now.
That TSA PreCheck saved my ass once or twice. If you travel AT ALL! Do it. It is amazing. Basically, it's a time machine. You get to go back to before all the bullshit and get a security check like I remember it as a kid. Also, it is a bit of a hassle, but worth it, to set it up I mean. Takes a minute....
I got Global entry and really love love love it. Worth it
I highly recommend TSA PreCheck. It saves you time at the airport and it comes in handy one leaves the hotel or house late or run into traffic.
Nexus is a great one if you travel between the US and Canada, it only costs $50 but gives you the benefit of TSA Pre-check, and lets you use the Nexus lanes on the land border.
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION
Thanks Linda :)
I have of the above, well worth the cost. One that I also have if you travel in countries around the Pacific is APEC card I can clear Beijing and also Seoul immigration in about 10mins. Best card ever.
Great info!
Thanks Star Gazer
Global entry is the way to go. TSA pre-check varies from airport to airport. Thanks to our inefficient government process, It can be a crapshoot depending on what part of the country you are in
Just got TSA PreCheck, and your informative video added a lot of pros to my pro/con list while deciding if it was indeeed worth it! I mostly just travel around holidays, but my cat comes with me, which is stressful enough on its own! Not only am I juggling taking my shoes off, wrestling off jackets, pulling out half the contents of my bags, and dipping through scanners, I'm also wrangling a 15lb maine coon who REALLY doesn't want to be in those lines either! From what I can tell, pets still have to come out of their carriers for scanning, PreCheck or not, but it's still worth it if I'm not sliding around in my socks! Wish me luck! 😬
Hopefully it'll be worth it for you! Good luck!
@@YellowProductions Thanks! Just to follow up (if it's useful to anyone else reading), it was faster, but LAX still makes you take out your electronics. MEM does not, but you're still subject to having your hands swabbed, and pet carriers are also swabbed before they return them to you. So pretty much depends on the airports like you said. Still worth it? I think so! Hopefully the TSA will standardize the system more in the future. 🤞
My first time traveling with Global Entry made extra cost worth it for the rest of my life. I returned on a Sunday night and due to some weather issues 5 international flights arrived within a 15 minute period and there were only 3 customs agents doing passport control. Thankfully they had another agent clearing a path for those with GE so it only took me a few minutes to clear customs. A coworker that did not have GE took a little over 3 hours to clear customs.
Nice! But ooof for your coworker
I'm a fashion publicist who before Covid, traveled a great deal.TSA PreCheck/Global Entry changed my life---and the fact that there are still people out there who don't boggles my mind....
Well the more people that have it will then probably make the lines longer.
Got approved for Global Entry just yesterday 🙂 I was lucky in that I could do my interview at Schiphol airport and it was very easy. I was able to take just one sip of my coffee before I was done. The lady CBP officer was incredibly friendly and quite happy with how well prepared I came. I hope Atlanta will have the new kiosks when I get there in June 🙂
Nice!
@@YellowProductions Well, Atlanta did have the new kiosks and I was through immigration in just a matter of minutes 🙂 With pre-check, TSA was also a breeze, so I was at the gate for my connecting flight about 20 minutes after I got off the plane, most of that time was spent in the luggage hall, waiting for my suitcase to get there 🙂
I have Clear and TSA pre check. I got through security in PHX and SEA in less than 5 minutes each time. I absolutely love these two programs.
Shhh, don’t let too many people know. They’ll spoil the fun of sprinting through security. 💨🛫
Great video Chris thank you
Update as 11/3/2022 TSA Pre costs $78 for 5 years down from $85. Applied 11/3/2022 and today 11/5/2022 was approved and have my KTN, very impressed and happy.
Thanks for the update Walter!
I applied on 11/4, was approved and also got my KTN two days later. Was so surprised how fast it worked. I’m flying out Christmas Eve and was worried I wouldn’t get it in time as it said it could take 60 days to get it. Now to test it out.
@@babsnewhall8023 did the application ask for your SSN?
Just got approved for global entry. Applied -Feb 28, 2023.Conditionally Approved March 1, 2023. Paid $29 for Appointment Scanner to find an interview date. My airport IAD is backlogged over 1year+. Got a March 3, 2023 INTERVIEW appointment using Appointment Scanner. So total 4 day’s journey 😅😅😅
PS- I applied for TSA pre-check online first. Got approved in 2 days. Instead of scheduling an enrollment I applied for global entry and got conditionally approved the next day.
Great info, super clear and well explained, as usual. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks Gustavo!
All 3 here. GE is best thing ever. Clear is good some of the time depending on staffing. This week at Las Vegas it was the best ever.
1) If you fly from an airport that does not have TSA Precheck, it is probably a tiny airport, where security lines are not an issue. But it is still nice to have for your return trip from larger airports.
2) Global Entry interviews are nearly impossible to get at an airport these days. However, TSA has many locations near ground border crossings that are usually wide open. My daughter just got Global Entry. Interviews at DEN were around 8 months out. However, we were visiting family in Laredo over Christmas, and virtually every time slot was wide open, not at LRD, but at a TSA office near one of the bridges. Unfortunately, my daughter forgot her passport (kids!), so she had to cancel that appointment. Fortunately, she was traveling to Detroit a few weeks later. There were no appointments at DTW, but the TSA building at the Ambassador Bridge (to Canada) was wide open. I do not understand how Global Entry fell so far behind in processing applications. The interviews are really a joke, and they only take 5 minutes. It was basically just a quick fingerprinting, which could be done at hundreds of places, just like they do for TSA Precheck.
