Imagine having a neighbour who's doing something really loud, thinking something like "what are they doing running a jet engine?" only for it turn out that it's actually a jet engine
ua-cam.com/video/z8bIXeM0RJ8/v-deo.html Your welcome :)
That's my neighbors
The Arfons brothers used to do this with F86 engines chained to trees outside their workshops on the jet powered Green Monsters. I got to see two iterations of the Green Monster. It ran at full military power at the starting line, then cut in the afterburner for a big blast thru the quarter mile when they were green lighted. Saw them at Kansas City International Raceway and St. Louis International Raceway about 1970.
i would not mind at all would love it jump the fence with my♿

The first oil one is actually extremely cool. Essentially when considering it's made from random parts.
I actually really like the slow startup
Pretty satisfying
@@alessiocarraro7778 And closer to a full size engine.
yup makes for more realism when building a scale plane .model ... you can have a preheater cart for the engines ... or you can have it use a built in Auxillary Power-up Unit and spool the engines like he did ... saving on your flight battery and it can be all electric to pre-heat and spin up since you can use a glow plug style heater which has the added advantage of actually being able to start the fuel when hot enough ... with a sensor for when the engine has taken over you can then switch the APU to charge and let it sit back for ride
It Sick innit 👌🏿
Slow start up is more realistic, its like being at Heathrow.

On-screen text, referring to actual jet engine: Brushless pump
Me: Well technically you're not wrong.
Probably johnny was too excited for this and forgot to go through the edit

Exactly what I was thinking. At first I was like "he forgot to change the text", but then I realized that it's really just an air pump, and being non-electric, it is technically "brushless", so you have to give it to him.
Oh that was done on purpose allright ! Quite funny actually ! 👍

As a rotary engine enthusiast, I’m happy that there’s something that empties the fuel tank faster😅
hahahaha
I was thinking the same about my Focus ST225.
If a rotary could do 125000 rpm, it would chew fuel even faster than the jet.
Have a look at an F111 doing a dump and burn... Jet engine, thirsty enough.
Now add an after burner.
Now dump extra fuel overboard to create an even bigger flame out the back.

I really wish I didnt get high quality headphones, these go up to 22khz and it hurts so damn bad
BiC MC you can hear up to 22khz?
Either you’re really young or have excellent ears.
Most people top out between 18-20khz.
Older people even struggle with 16khz.
Btw even the cheapest headphones normally are able to reproduce much higher frequencies, some up to 70khz.
Especially when they use balanced armature drivers instead dynamic drivers.
You’re just not able to hear them.
And the frequency graph definitely isn’t flat anymore at these high frequencies, nonetheless they can reproduce them.
Man, that's such a JohnnyQ90 nostalgia trip. Micro jets. The thing that got me to sub to you, was the "i don't give a shit" attitude. Haven't been disappointed since.

That might just be the coolest thing ever!
Nice build.
Whenever you're starting an engine for the first time, keep yourself at 45 degrees, if possible. If the engine blows, shrapnel flies radially, if it breaks the body (it shouldn't, even at max rpm). Also, one hand at the stop button at all times, if shit happens, it happens fast. Your controls location was ideal, actually.
Never run a gas engine until dry, it needs some time to cool down at idle. If it doesn't cool down, it's best to keep the engine in slow turn (that's a real gas turbine feature, don't know if it applies here), to avoid thermal bow.
Congratulations, running your own gas turbine is very fun!
if its a perfect round cylinder like this jet engine at what angle do you stay 45 degrees from LOL its a round object that will will explode in 360 degrees lmfao better to use a barrier!
@@rvlifestylelivin Are you trolling?
Consider the shaft axis as reference, the center of the turbine body as origin. Commissioning personel should stay on the line that, starting from the origin, makes 45 degrees with the shaft.
If the turbine explodes, shrapnel flies 360 *radially*. Or it flies axially. So you shouldn't be on the side or ends of an operating gas engine.
That was my first thought. I did an apprenticeship at a grinder machine manufacturer and was qualified to change wheels on cylindrical and surface grinding machines. The first thing they teach you is never stand in line with the wheel when you first switch it on.
This is smazing

2000 revolutions per second. Even on something that small there's some serious forces involved there.
The angular momentum of the compressor blades is 600 times as much force as the thrust. Imagine if it had a 10 kilogram flywheel.
@@timhallas4275 I'm sorry but that doesn't make any sense. Angular momentum has different dimensions than force.
Agree, that is why I wouldn't stand next to it with my thigh right in line with the rotating compressor blades.
Smaller RC engines require a lot of RPM. When you buy larger than this the Max RPM goes down, while Power goes up.
Like this high powered engine has top RPM of 50K modelaircraftcompany.com/newshop/en/micro-jet-turbines/854-amt-lynx-turbine-with-1569-kg-1569-n-352-lbs-thrust.html

it sounds really cool, love it
Imagine how the realtime fuel consumption of a full size jet engine would be...
Well, it about 0,1-0,3 kg/s or if you prefer 0,8-0,24 liter/s (more ore less), but it's strictly depends ond the amount of air goes in the turbogas.
A pilot I used to know told me an F-14 tomcat burned $30,000 and hr worth of jet fuel, and that wasn't using afterburner that was just cruising!
A 747 Burns 5 tons of kerosene a hour 👌
I work on KC-135s. They are an aerial refueler. Standard rampload at my base is 75,000 pounds of fuel. 13,400 pounds in each wing tank which is where the engines are fed the fuel from. Jets didn’t land with the same amount of fuel everytime but typically after a 5 hour flight you could expect anywhere from 2-4,000 pounds in each wing tank. That can give you an idea. 4,000 pounds of fuel would be roughly 600 gallons and 13,400 pounds would be 2000 gallons so that’s 1400 gallons of fuel per tank in 5 hours.

One striking difference between piston engines and jets is that on a piston engine the oil pump is big and the fuel pump is small, while for a jet it's the opposite.
Imagine the greed for fuel of large engines on jet air liners

10:48 fuel Efficiency has left the chat
Something that makes the mig-29 look fuel efficient
Wow, I am appalled with the real time fuel consumption! Incredible.
I had a 1977 Cadillac Eldorado that had a similar Gallons Per Hour thirst...
@@microbuilder Did you measure fuel effeciency in tons per hour? You almost have to in those old land yachts.
just think ... an f18 ... has lets say 10,000 gallons of fuel on board ... thats only a few minutes of flight time ... NOT dog fight time either .. just basic high efficiency flight time ... what you saw going into the engine was about comparable ... the trade offs in a jet engine include fuel consumption over thrust as well ... going fast and hauling weight take lots of fuel .. so you make a compromise on how fast you want to use fuel ... with full sized engines they have many settings that can be adjusted for best fuel use at most operating levels ... BUT ... an RC jet doesnt have that ... it has a basic engine set to a moderate compromise of fuel use to useful power ... if you can compress the incoming air more or chill it ... then have a better fuel air mixer ... you would increase the power out of the engine and lower fuel consumption ... BUT at the cost of more weight ..
.
so if you made thunderbird 2 ... you would need about 5 gallons of fuel just to get 15 minutes of flight time .. with 2 engines ... BUT it would be about 6 feet long ... and not light by any means ;)
Power to weight ratio is better than an IC engine, but the tradeoff is fuel consumption.

I can´t wait for the "building a RC Jet Engine Afterburner" video.
I love how you can hear the sound aliasing as the RPM increases
What's sound of aliasing
It's an artifact of a frequency exceeding the Nyquist frequency, which is equal to half the number of samples per second of the recording.
You see the same effect when a car's wheel spokes appear to reverse direction in camera footage, as each spoke turns more than enough per frame to appear in the place of another spoke.
When the harmonic frequencies of the quickly rotating fans exceed the Nyquist frequency, you can hear the aliasing artifact, which is a new frequency with a pitch "reflected" off the top end of the frequency spectrum, so it appears to be descending in pitch even as the RPM increases.
