You have a very patient wife. My wife ran out of patience ages ago so I can't test any lenses on her - he he!
Time to upgrade!

I just got this lens today and am amazed at the build quality. Rock solid. I haven't taken shots with it as I'm waiting on the camera I bought to arrive, but wow, I'm already impressed.
I really like your reviews, especially when you compare the lens with others. Also, thanks to the clarity with which you speak and how accurate your explanations are, I fully understand what you are saying without English being my mother tongue.
Me playing an Arthur`s review: "Ouhh, my english is improving quite well. I can understand everything he says".
Me when when playing next random video: "Shitt! Where are the subtitles button?"
This portrait lens is an absolute steal! Perfect for taking close-up shots. The aperture control is handy for indoor use. Feels really weighty in the hand. I think it's the best manual lens I've ever gotten. The metal build is amazing. The rings turn so smoothly. And the picture quality? Sharp as a tack even with the aperture wide open.
Just recently bought this lens for my Nikon Z50. I`m really happy with it so far, the build quality at this price is just unbelivable. And if you want to brush up on or getting into manual shooting, this is the one. I can see this lens beeing a good match on the Zfc, i might just have to get one of those also.
Please do a comparison video against the Kamlan 50mm f1.1and possible other manual lenses for the Sony E mount.
You must have been reading my mind! I saw this lens last night on adorama and went to your channel to see if you reviewed it yet, then I get home from work today and here it is.
It would be interesting to see a lens like this up against some vintage manual lenses as the price is quite similar rather than the Sigma
Yeah, the takumar 50 1.4 would be a good competitor.
I've still got a Sigma 24mm manual lens which I bought in 1973.
It's got four built in filters and took (takes?) excellent images although not razor tack mind blowingly crisply sharp, they're still satisfying even after nearly fifty years. Thank god for the school of impressionism.
@@PMS1950 I've got the Sigma trio which I use when I absolutely must get the sharpest photos, but when I'm out taking photos for fun I much prefer the challenge of using manual vintage lens and love the results
side by side with the Nikon 50mm f/1.2 & Minolta 58mm f/1.2
@@m.rychtarik_2 - I use a Pentax Taumar 50mm f1.4 with an Adapter on my a6400...
I am pretty sure it would give the Sigma a run for the money... at far less money. Very Very Sharp Lens.
...but, i also have a Pentax SMC 50mm f1.4 in PK/A mount, and with the Adapter I have, the Aperture can be
controlled by the Camera. I do think the Takumar is only Slightly Sharper.
One of my Favorite Lenses to use for Portraiture is a Nikon Nikkor 85mm f1.4 with an adapter on the a6400.
Very Sharp Lens with fantastic Bokeh.
Great review of a very interesting manual lens! I totally love the TT Artisan 35/1.4, am very curious now about this 50/1.2!
What really seems to stand out is the mechanics of these lenses, well-damped focusing, beautiful aperture ring etc. These TT Artisans feel just a bit better than the other "cheap" lenses it seems ...
I've got this lens and I very much enjoy it. No need for anything sharper, really. Perfect companion for my weekend walks and rather slow style of shooting.
im astonished evertime i watch your videos, just the sharpness and the on point focus you get just by manual Focusing
Haha not always, but i've definitely improved with manual focus over the years. I've just been using the focus magnification instead of peaking on the camera.
I bought the TTartisan 35mm F1.4 as my first budget friendly lens, and you can do pretty good pics with it if you don´t crop like crazy or use the 1.4 all the time. Random potraits, photos to hang on your wall, be creative, train manual focus... for that money? Man, it worth it.
I like how he is very honest about its difference from the sigma.
I wish you discussed the T-stop. There was a noticeable difference in exposure. Wide open, the Sigma @ f/1.4 appeared to be much brighter than the TTartisans @ f/1.2.
probably it isn't real f1.2 seems more a f1.8...
probably is a 1.6T the TTartisans
Another brilliant review Arthur. I wonder how it compares to the 7artisans 55mm F1.4?
That’s exactly my question 🙋🏻♂️
I am interested to know the same?
Those are the best test photos I have seen in your videos!
3:26 best shot imo! looks very candid
Excellent review as always and great photos. A minor quibble which would enhance my understanding of the key points you make - when showing comparison shots side by side it is often not clear which is shot by which lens unless reversing back to the beginning where you say it once. Can you label the photos or at least say "the Sigma lens on the left..." etc.
I came here to mention this as well. Sometimes I have backtracked 2 or 3 times and still can't figure out one from another. Consider maybe always having the lens that is the subject of the video consistently on the same side.
Me: wow that's a horribly blurry lens
Also me: oh shit I don't have my glasses on
150k+ subs, you done made it!
Indeed! 150 subs is a lot. Im humbled by the support.
@@ArthurR you deserve it, do you think you will ever go full-time with the channel?
@@ArthurR sorry I meant do you ever see UA-cam being your full time job/gig?
@@grady60 Oh, maybe. It would be fun! Maybe in 2021, you never know.
Great review! The new manuals are getting sharper wide open and the focus throw is getting better too.. got the pergear 50/1.8 last year for just $53 and I am impressed too by the percentage of keepers vs some older lenses, thought it was just me getting better at it..
Where did u order from
Wow! What a nice APS-C lens for less than $100. Great review.

Tganks for the review. I just bought this today
Excellent video. Just use the lens on f/2.8 and preset focus on lens barrel 😊.
In the sigma-comparison at 6:37 - you shot the sigma with 1/4000 and the TTArtisan with 1/640 - that's odd? Is that a fair comparison? The TTArtisan got what, 8x?, the amount of light to work with?
Would you be able to do a comparison of the TTartisan 50mm F1.2 with the Kamlan 50mm F1.1 Markll....Thanks !!
Hello Arthur, what's the price of a Sony A6400 in your country? It's been a few month now, the 6400 is super jacked up in price in India at 1100 USD (with 16-50 kit lens)
RIght now it is $900 here in the US. Same price for almost 2 years now.
Prices for camera gear that appeals in Australia during Covid19 has not eased in general. Need to wait for sales and factory promotions.
Not great for cash strapped potential purchasers.
It's manual focus, of course, but does it have auto-aperture? That is, do you have to focus it stopped down? Or can you focus wide open and the lens stops down to the selected aperture when you take the picture?
Thank you for your video. When you mounted this lens on a ff sensor: how much do you need to crop to eliminate vignetting? 1.2x crop?
This obsessing about "sharpness" seems to be the bane of the digital age. You've got some very impressive, clear images that seem to be in focus and all that most people would expect. Surely that's all you want?
Also I struggle to find any lens reviews or articles where they shoot lens anything slower than a stop lower than wide open. Who would take a photo of tree's on in extremely bright midday/afternoon sun at f1.2? If it's just to test the fringing, it's still irrelevant because if you're not silly you would never take that photo...
if you're here for the first time, his channel is pretty much just like that for all lenses. SHARPNESS SHARPNESS SHARPNESS. I watched quite a lot of his videos before switching to actual reviews from channels with people looking at all types lenses (especially vintage) and talking about contrast, micro-contrast, lens character and different bokeh types ... The good stuff you know !
You would think after all this time that he would get a damn Zeiss Otus Sharpmonster to say about every other lens ... not as sharp. But he's more of a sigma fanboy !!
So true. I much prefer slightly softer lens for portraits, way more flattering- especially for women… If a lens is too sharp I would always want to put a diffusion filter on to soften out wrinkles and skin tone a tiny bit…
I mostly play with vintage lenses, and none are super sharp compared to modern lenses. I only have a XF16-80mm as a modern lens, which blows the others out of the water on sharpness. That said, when I go for the vintage lenses, I don't care about sharpness. I'm trying to do other things, and want a certain type of feel.
@@pcprincipal9889 *** Who would take a photo of tree's on in extremely bright midday/afternoon sun at f1.2? ***
Someone who wants a really shallow Depth of Field in their shot... and someone who has ND FILTERS to stop down the light and doesn't want to compromise on the Shallow Dept of Field...
Great Video nice overall performance at this lens TTartisan.. but it lacks also in Contrast. Reminds me of the Samyang 50mm 1.2mm. The Pricetag is great of under 100$!
I should be able to use it on my A7II right? Even if it's just in the APS-C mode?
Yes. But wouldn't recommend it. It would be good for video though, but for stills I would personally pass.
See the vignetting shot in this video at the 2:52 minute mark so you can see what you will get on a full-frame.
@@frankyvee1 Yeah I get it, but if it's in APS-C mode I should work fine, no?
@@MrYamazaky yes you can switch your camera to APSC mode and it will remove the dark corners. Just keep in mind you will also lose about ~10 megapixels of resolution but that's the takeaway. Same thing if you shoot in full-frame and manually crop the dark corners in photoshop.
Arthur, your videos are excellent and informative. If I might suggest one improvement: all of your videos have a severe magenta color cast. Because it is so consistent, it could be that your monitor requires calibration. Pardon the unsolicited criticism.
this lens can works for tennis video shooting on a eos m50 ii ? thank you
I wonder how this lens stacks up against the Auto Sears 55mm f/1.4 (Tomioka manufactured) M-42 mount lens modified with an M-42 to E-mount converter...
Great lens. But if you were to choose between this and the 7artisans 55mm mk2, which is your choice?
The stills you showed remind me a little of the Helios 44-2 58mm f2.
In fact Helios 44-3
Waiting for your Tamron 17-70mm Arthur. Please post it.....
Yes please
Waiting for it to ship!
@@ArthurR yeah, that is the lens of the year 2021. Imho there won't be any other new lenses at that level for sony apsc. I'd be extremely happy to see something like a 10-18 made from Tamron or sigma with a good price and good performance (not like the Sony...), but seen where the market is going, I don't really think it will happen. Speaking of me, I'm about to replace the venerable and awesome 18 135 with the 17 70. Curious to watch your always detailed side by side with 16 55 and possibly 18 135 or 18 105, if you still own them. I also wanna suggest you to include a sunstar test in your reviews! Thank you Arthur! 😊
@@ArthurR we too are waiting for it please make video for both sony full frame and apsc
I wonder if you got a bad copy, I didn't have enough time to test mine with all the lockdown bs but I dont think mine has so much chromatic aberration
It is a lot - granted it is kind of a worst case scenario where you are shooting detail (tree limbs) into a bright sun. I do appreciate the sigma's ability to deal with it though.
Thanks for the review. It looks good for what you, placed the order :) I have used 7artisans 35mm f2 (FF) lens before when I had Sony A7III (downgraded now to Sony A64000) and was pleased with the result for the money. This looks similar performance and I hope I will like it. I don't pixel peep. The online sample images look alright unless they zoom in and compare.
Could we not just throw it on a full frame making it a 75 mm fov 1.2? Especially the full frames that have APS-C shooting mode?
So if you're newer to photography would you suggest the TTartisan line if you want to deviate away from the kit lens?
How it look like on canon rp or a full frame canon camera?
What do you think of this lens for video studio recording in a setup similar to yours? What I wanted achieve is a nice blur in the background when recording
Hi, you mentioned, if you stop it down to f4, the sharpness is noticeably better. Since I am a newbie to photography, does that make the f1.2 lens equivalent to an f4 lens?
f1.2 just means that is the brightest (or biggest) aperture available on this lens. basically all lenses have adjustable apertures, so this can also be an f1.4, 2, 2.8, 4 etc depending on where you set it.
Hey mahn can you do a review of the new 17-70 f 2.8 tamron lens
How does it compare to the Kamlan 50 1.1? Very curious
Im looking for something like this but FULLFRAME
Hai arthur, it is compitable lens when we attach with gimbal for video. I mean does effect stabilization of gimbal when we doing adjusting manual focus of subject?
Which variable Nd filter should I buy for ttartisan 50 1.2

anybody know anything about the new Sony a6000 series camera coming up? something budget friendly? like under $2000?
Would you recommend this one over the 7 artisans 55mm 1.4?
which one will give me the better night photos with low light?
Hi Arthur, I checked the online site of TTartisans and if I want to buy a lens for my Panasonic S5 full frame, the lens mount accordingly to this site, is it LeicaL or LumixL mount for the Panasonic S5?? I'm confused, thanks
I´ve got the kamlan 50mm/f1.1, for me the best creamy bokeh, one thing i hate in the kamlan is the thin mount, i don´t understand that mount, its like for another camera, not for my sony. Greetins.
Compare to Kamlan 50/1.1 (Mark1). Which one better?
IS THIS SHARPER WIDE OPENTHAN THEN THE 7 ARTISIAN 55 MM 1.4 FOR SONY ?
Why can't you use this on a dslr with a cps-c like the Canon Eos 7d with an adapter?
*I just bought an a6400 Body and paired it with Sony's 16mm f.28 pancake lens. What would you recommend for a similar lens but in 30mm or 50mm Lens. Reasonably priced of course. *
Sony's 16mm f2.8 is a horribly lens in my opinion. Not sharp at all. I would recommend looking at the sigma 30mm or sigma 56mm.
@@ArthurR sorry I should have Clarified My Question. I use the 16mm as Vlogging Lens, I have no need for the Photography aspect. But thank you.
Can i use on the fujifilm?
Hello i want to ask should i buy a ttartisans 50mm 1.2 or a vintage lens like takumar 50mm 1.4 with adapter for a6000 ?
If you compare it to Kamlan 50mm f1.1 mk2 with one is better in your opinion?
Hi, would this lens work on a blackmagic pocket 4k? I know its MFT just wondering because theres no videos with this lens and the pocket 4k
How does it hold up against the 7artisans 55mm 1.4? Currently tossing up between the two
Hi, it's for APS-C or FF sensor ?
How does it compare to the Brightin star 50mm 1.4? Does it dethrone the budget portrait king?
It would be nice if TTartisan will be able to add a chip to identify the lens on Fujifilm cameras like the new Voigtlanders. That would really be a nice bonus. I've grown to appreciate their quirky lens body design. Using them is fun especially on my X-E4. I wish my Mitakon had the clicky aperture ring.
Planning to get this for my xe4. Any feedback on how it worked out for you?
Why such lenses not available for canon EF mount?
Because of the flange distance of a DSLR
My favorite made in China manual portrait lens is the Kamlan 50mm f1.1 v.II
Rf 50mm f1.8 or this ttartisan F1.2 i do low light video ( not very low light)
Hi. I have a Sony A6000 + Sony FE 50mm 1.8. I would like clear glass whether it has AF or not. I hesitate between the 7artisans 50mm f0.95 and the TTartisans 50mm f1.2. Will there be a big difference compared to the Sony 50mm 1.8 FE? The f1.2 light is already cool, is it worth paying extra 2x more to the f0.95 light? Thanks for advice. Greetings from the UK
I just bought this lens and man this thing is incredible for the money
Hold on how did Sigma photos look so warm and pleasing? Is it some setting difference or just how lens captures light? If the settings are identical then I just love how the Sigma photos look.
Those Sigma Trio lens are great lens. The 56mm yields great photos for portrait and the 16mm does a excellent job in landscape, for the price they offer great quality indeed!
@@dirtybiscuitlive Agreed. I have the 30mm f1. 4 contemporary one and it's my most used lens on a6600.

This lens seems to be a lens which I’d use, sure it won’t be extremely awesome but for someone who does this as a hobby this lens is pretty good. My question is, if I use it with my m50 will my camera know there is a lens on or do I have to change some settings?

Any chance you could review the new Viltrox 56mm F1.4 and compare with the Sigma 56mm F1.4?
Hi can you review the sample of this Len for Astrophotography, like Milky Way?
Hi @arthur thanks for the video. I am a newbie so please don't mind my ignorance. In shots with sun in the background, did you use a flash/reflector to fill light on face or is it just the camera alone?
Had to look up the procedures for adapting the SONY α6500 to manual focusing. For $98, a real bargain. With the advent of cameras that can get decent photos at ISO 5000, the major value of f/1.2 is decreasing depth of field, not low-light work. I could have used this lens when Panatomic-X was needed for 11 x 14 enlargements from 35mm.
