I think that's harder for someone who comes from an honor-shame culture not to be conscious about how he is reflecting on the larger group or viewed within the group. Traditionally in the South we have an honor-shame culture and we are concerned about how our words and actions reflect on our extended family and whether we are fulfilling family's expectations. It's hard to think about just being myself.
