China has actually put lots of breaks on Russian escalation. They don’t want smoke with the USA, especially right now when Russia has proved that the majority of the Russian-based tech is garbage, and their economy has been facing some recent challenges. China is more practical in their approach to anticipated future conflict and would prefer to buy as much time as possible for themselves.

There is no advantage to the West in giving the Ukrainians all the weapons they need to win the war.

Let me explain?
When you have nuclear weapons, you have become "too big to fail" geopolitically.
The real danger in this war is not that Russia uses nuclear weapons on Ukraine.
It is that Russia loses the war, causing the government to fail.
We in the West awaken the next day to find that Russia's nuclear weapons are no longer secured.
We are told that some of those weapons may have fallen into the hands of terrorist groups.
Imagine a credible threat that a nuclear weapon was set to explode in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome or New York unless a certain terrorist's threats were met?
That's why we are all being so careful in dealing with Russia.
What Russia is doing is heinous to its own people and to Ukraine.
What could happen if an even less-responsible group were to gain access to a portion of Russia's nuclear stockpile is unthinkably worse.
That's why we are incrementally increasing the aid to Ukraine.
This gives time for those in Russia to bring this war to a smoother ending, preventing a breach in the worldwide protection of nuclear weapons.
Part of the agreement to get Ukraine to agree to give up their Nuclear Missiles under the 1994 Budapest Agreement was that Nato would help to protect them in the future, now they are being let down once again like the first time putin invaded Ukraine and took over Crimea. Thousands of lives and Billions of pounds could have been saved...Remember putin is watching all this...God Bless Ukraine from the UK.

If NATO enters Russia, it is not Russia that the US will be worried about. The response to it will come from Iran amping up against Israel, China amping against Japan and Taiwan, and NKorea amping up against SKorea. It is the North Pacific, Indian Ocean, and the Middle East that they're worried about. Very soon, US will have to choose between Taiwan, Israel, and SKorea or deescalate from Russia.

American is delaying because they have an election to face and will be weighing up the effects of their decision on the election. UK and France have finished their elections so can act without having to make that calculation.

I think there's also the concern that if Putin loses (and authorising the use of long-range weapons will hasten that), the Russian Federation may disintegrate, causing complete chaos, with nuclear weapons in the hands of unknown actors.

It’s a grim equation: pay Russian non skilled men a fortune to fight in Ukraine, but they won’t have to pay the salary for very long for a lot of them….
Russians provide way better training than the average Ukraine soldier gets. Russia has a major population advantage and they don't need to do desperate acts as they are now in the box seat and are winning this war of attrition. Contrary to the impression given by the guest commentator all military experts are aware that the casualty exchange ratio is favouring Russia significantly.

Yes, it's unfortunate that the candidates' positions and plans concerning Ukraine, NATO, and Israel were not discussed. Nor are they coming up in rallies or speeches.
I think Putin has to stay away from windows not on ground level now.
It may be military campaigning season in Ukraine, but in the US it's presidential campaigning season, so don't expect the US to make any drastic policy decisions in support of Ukraine before the elections on Nov 5th.

The Russians ran into a bear trap in Kursk. They've committed thousands of troops into a cauldron and the second they did so, Ukraine opened up a new vector of attack and blitzed to a new village positioning their troops directly behind thousands of Russian attacking troops. They cannot get out. There is no escape. All the bridges are destroyed.
Ukraine's Kursk Offensive has been a huge strategic victory. They've successfully diverted Russian troops away from the East and now Ukraine is out maneuvering and outfighting Russian troops on territory of their choosing. The Russians just keep making mistakes.

Boris and the former defence ministers know where the issue is, its the American president giving the nod for the UK to be the first to go, they are just making the noise of support for Ukraine along with those in the Labour party who also support this move. The British were the forerunners with tanks, storm shadow and other things, and I think this is a direct policy of the Americans seeing how it plays out when Britain makes the first move and then join in later once there is not a reaction and push back on the UK's actions.
I understand and accept the above but the problem is this process takes way too long.
I think the Americans have given the Uk the nod or are about too because it's so necessary. Maybe the issue plaguing the Americans is how this plays out with regard to the American elections.
